You'd think now HD has been around a while and lots of people have HD ready tvs, that a lot of the channels will be going HD this year.

We should get ITV HD and Five HD this year as there going on freeview.

Bravo HD would be good.

im not being funny but most of the shows shown on Bravo are that old they were shot SD anyway and not even in widescreen. if Bravo went HD we would be looking at a square image in the middle of the screen just like Family guy on FX HD.

zantarous 03-02-2010 15:20

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

But they do show modern shows as well, all there old shows are in 4:3 anyway so you still get them in a square in SD.

The last stat I read said that something like 65% of the UK had a HDTV.

I got an email from UKTV today:

Quote:

We still do not have any plans to launch these channels (Eden +1 and Yesterday +1) on any platform. If we do ever intend to, it will be announced on the website and in the media.
So it look to me as -

A) Virgin and UKTV has sign an new deal.
or B) UKTV has forgot to tell their workers.

Can anyone who know give us the latest.

Bravo have new shows also. TNA in HD, they could have the Worlds stongest man in HD.

With the Military History Channel coming then obviously VM have signed a new contract with AETN (the channel's owners).

I wonder if that means that History +1 will finally show up on ex-TW?

I would also suggest it means there's a good chance that History HD will show up as part of the 'many HD channels coming soon'.

Hey, I have been following this forum in Stealth Mode since about July 2009, finally decided to join, thanks to the guys and MB for all their updates and for giving it to us before anyone else. Does anyone know when Merseyside is getting their new cards??? My Dad has a habit of putting stuff like that to one side and I'd hate to think he has lost them somewhere.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

You never know, Sky maybe willing to let their hd channels air on virgin now, they have a massive amount of current HD customers on their own platform, they could make money by selling them onto virgin now, and with the OFCOM hearing coming up, Sky may want to look like the good guys by offering them before that time.

I do think if it does happen we may have to pay for a HD Sub for those channels probably the £9.99 Sky customers currently pay.

I am not getting my hopes up but I don't think Sky HD is as far away as some people may think for us Cable users.

spankysmagicpian 05-02-2010 09:00

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

I'd rather Virgin hung on. The more HD channels Virgin get and include them for 'free' in the XL pack, the more chance that Sky will have to start thinking about dropping the £10 extra charge for the HD channels they provide. With no extra income coming in or rather an additional premium for the HD, they might be willing to offer some to Virgin like SS or Sky 1.

Some Scandanavian sources are reporting that ESPN America HD is launching soon (for example, it's showing up in the guide at CanalDigital's websites although with no schedule listed as yet). As they get the same version of ESPNA that we do in the UK/Ireland I'm hoping this means that we may get it as well.

I'd like this alot, I think a trade would work if we saw Virgin1HD, Bravo-hd as well as LIVINGHD Virgin need to offer more than just LIVING but thats upto Virgin.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

That piece of news is quite old and nothing has changed since most of it was posted last year.

All we know is that Eurosport HD is coming.

I suspect there is a strong chance that we will get History HD, Bio HD, Crime & Investigation and the HD Disney channel as Virgin have recently signed new deals with them. That is just pure speculation on my part though.

The answer is no, but it's not the BBC's fault:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/7755219.stm

If you scroll down the page under the race schedule and read the paragraph about the red button it says:

Quote:

We will not be able to provide F1 coverage in high definition this year. The BBC relies on Formula 1 Management (FOM) for the provision of all of its live pictures and as such the broadcasting of high definition pictures is dependent upon whether FOM uses HD cameras or not.
Basically the same issue as last year.

MTVHD is great, it's the best thing MTV has done in years and it's just like MTV europe was. Last thing it needs is crappy reality tv shows on it :dozey:

No, I have just copied and pasted from the first page as already noted by others.. The 20-30hd channels was discussed by Neil Beckett. The info ref Sky HD channels has been there since 2009. I have no source as I have just taken it from page 1. My apologies to all. I should have quoted it.

To be fair, people who read the first page would be well aware that the info come form there, and even the post above your original post had the words see first post. The confusion arises when people are not reading all posts.

What do you mean when you say EPG update, do you mean:

1. changing names of channels (that need it)

2. different layout/style

3. Faster for V+ and PACE boxes

4. New additions to the Virgin Media EPG/Guide (like new features)

Thanks. :erm:

Virgin are re-Rebrand some BBC One Channels and also adding some BBC Radio Channels to the EPG - so they are updating their EPG.

Note BBC News Multiscreen will also launch.

Slightly off topic but have just seen this about skys stake in ITV
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/broadcas...-itv.html.html
Wonder if this means Sky are going to be a more cooperative with ofcom ect over HD channels and other premium channels being made available at a better wholesale price

I think it is unrelated. The only reason they are not appealing is because they have been told they will not win the appeal.

No this won't happen. It's taken at least 2 years for Sky to accept defeat and sell the stake after being ordered to reduce their stake in ITV. No ruiling has yet been announced reference Pay tv saga and therefore expect a similar scenerio if and when the ruiling is made before Sky accept defeat again. Sky HD channels are not really part of the Pay TV saga although one would expect that it would be included as part of any subscription to sky sports once Virgin media agree to make it available on their platform.

I think anything ofcom say to Sky they will just appeal and appeal and appeal until they are forced into selling the channels.

We can always keep dreaming about them coming onto VM

There will only be so many times Sky will be able to appeal.

But as of now it's all pie in the Sky....

(I'll get my coat)

Right fellow posters

Not long come off the phone to Virgin regarding the HD content, have told me Eurosport HD is arrving 1st week in April, another 7/8 HD channels to arrive by start of July.

The Sky HD channels they expect everything to be sorted by May, whether that means ofcom doing something or Virgin paying the money for them i don't know, but all sounds promising.

I would think the last bit, about the Sky channels is very unlikely. I doubt anybody in cs would know yet anyway. It would be nice if a few more HD channels were coming by June. That much is possible I would think.

I would take whatever they say over the phone with a pinch of salt. They're obviously going to say more channels are coming, it's their way of keeping your custom.

We all know that Eurosport HD is coming in April but no insiders has giving me an launch date for it yet.

An Insider has told me the name of one HD Channel that Virgin may launch soon.

We can live in hope that those channels are coming sooner rather than later.
Weve all waited patiently for a couple of years now.

Well reasonably patiently! lol

What do you guys think the 7/8 channels will be?

ITV HD, E4 HD, History HD are a few of my guesses

I really wouldn't bother speculating until it's official. There's no point in getting excited over it now, as that's what causes people to complain in a couple of months time.

One of them is bound to be History HD though.

I guess that AD will be Sky only?

The 1st show with all three (Widescreen, Subtitles and AD) will be NCIS at 1pm tomorrow - so we will see then.
