Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
McLaren first and second..........but, possible sanctions against Button for the safety car release, Hamilton for the pit lat release. Hopefully any penalties will apply to the next race, and not mess with this race result.

Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
Someone really needs to understand what happens in a wet race, aero, tyres whatever the rules need to give this type of race in the dry.
I think its lower grip and longer braking distances that emphasises the differences. Great races, well done to team McLaren and Nico. My punt on Schumacher looks a bit sad now..... |

They showed ging into the corner from Buttons car looking back coming up to the last corner and it you can clearly hear & see that Button started slowing into the final corner at least 300 yrds before the apex and therefore was doing what he was entitled to as per the rules, depicting the pace to the restart following a SC incident.

The other significant moment for me is that Lotus have beaten Williams and are therefore the first of the new teams to put one over the old guard. :)
Maybe the fact that the Hulk did 6 pitstops compared to Kov's 2 has something to do with it.... Both Hispnaia cars finished as well, come on Virgin it looks pretty but you had better get your act together |
Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
Belting race that, varied conditions, different calls made, some nice overtaking especially by Hamilton on :erm: turn 9 i think and a Brit 1+2
Christian Horner must have been a bad boy in a previous life as everything seems to look rosy then goes to pot soon after! How did Senior stinky pants end up fourth? My that guy could stand in dog doo only to find that said excretion contains the dogs owners diamond ring ate the previous day :p: Lets hope them clouds keep following the parade for the rest of the season :D One thing i am coming round to is the new points scoring system. The thing i like is that it can seem like your miles off then a couple of good results, coupled with others having incidents can bring you right back into play, maybe Bernie was right to copy how the bikes do it... |

Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
And people say F1 is boring; this has to be one the most eventful and interesting races in a long time. Big up for Button and Hamilton and I am pleased to say that my prediction about Button has not yet been fulfilled. Hamilton had a stonking race, being down as far as sixteenth, at one point and then to make it up to second, is phenomenal. It seems they both made the right calls on the tyres, but again, Button had the edge. Let's hope this is an indication of things to come from them both.
Only one point separating second, third and fourth places, it's going to an interesting season, me thinks! |
Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
Was a rather bizarre race starting from the start with Alonso jumping the start, I completely lost who was where after about 8 laps :p:
Vettel/Hamilton in the pit lane seemed to get released at the same time, Hamilton with a poor "start" which made things look worse so a repremand seems fair to me. |

Bit of a boring race TBH. No one stood a chance of touching Webber. Gutted for Hamilton, and Button was just not agressive enough.

borring yep button problem i think is just that overtaking isn't going to happen with out either rain mistakes or back markers getting it wrong ( hamilton vettle ) again most action happened at pit stop and start

That's one of things I don;t like about Button, yes he's reliable and kind to his tires but he has no flair or risk taking abilities like Lewis..
Shame on the wheel/tire failure with less than 2 laps to go for Lewis.. Congrats though to Mark on a good solid win |

Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
I must admit that Jenson is going down in my estimation:(. I have read a few articles in the Times and Independent today where is moaning about Schumacher and his conduct.
What on earth did he expect !! Schumi will never be a pushover, to overtake him you will have to do it on merit by pressuring him into a mistake or by taking him by surprise. Simply popping out of the slipstream wont cut it with someone who has a reputation for being brutal on the track and pushing the boundaries to, and sometimes beyond, the limit. Come on Jenson, stop moaning and get on with it !! |
Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
But then Schumacher has a history of behaving inappropriately. If this has been the case Button is very much within his rights to complain about it, not only that, he has a duty to do so.
|
Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
I must say I did not see anything untoward from Schumi, I don't want to see cars in the kitty litter but I do think Jenson could have been more aggressive.

Who does everyone reckon for pole?
It`s difficult to look past the Red-Bulls but Massa (Go Felipe baby) certainly seems to be flying this weekend, maybe he`s had a talking to about how much quicker Mr Potato head is the same car :D 1. Vettel 2. Webber 3. Massa |
Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
Schumacer perhaps after he does his first flying lap and then parks it in the middle of the main straight?? ;) :D
I think that the usual suspects might not be as fast on this track, there's no room for error or the feint hearted (that means that Button isn't gonna get pole ;) ) I think that Hamilton and Kubica might be quite highly placed as they're both more natural drivers |

There is a good thread on the James Allen blog about the penalty Schumi has received.
http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2010/0...egal-overtake/ It seems confusing that although the race was finishing behind the Safety car the green flags were out. Previously when finishing behind the SC the yellow flags stayed out. Basically Alonso was caught napping by an opportunistic Schumi, no danger as far as I can see as he was past the striken Lotus when he made the pass. |
Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
But I thought the race hadn't finish behind the safety car, the safety car came in before the race finished.

IIRC don't the rules say you can't appeal a 25 second penalty. Didn't that happen to Lewis at Spa in 08 where he got a penalty post race which you can't appeal ?
It's the FIA's \ FOM's fault as they don't want a race to be seen ending under a safety car so created a false situation where it goes in and then they made it worse this year by allowing racing up to the line McLaren said the same to Lewis that there was no passing aloud http://mclaren.com/home |
Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
Rules and regs and misinterpretations are the bane of racing..
It's the same in other series for example Tom Chiltons exclusion from the 2nd Race at Brands in the BTCC for ride height when the scutineering was actually done BEFORE the race  and now the change in rules for smaller turbo restrictors for the LPG fords half way through a season Dakar has now restricted all motorcycles to 450cc or less.. a lot of people seem to be blaming Hill over this one and thinking about it i'm not even sure he would be involved in the decision at all. He is there to offer a drivers view of things not to know all the rules and act as chief steward. Surely it would be the other three who are there to decide if the race was green or under yellow and issue the penalty can't see where Hill will come into it

Congrats to Mark Webber for his third pole in a row! :Sprint: , the guy really is on the crest of a wave (as the BBC team keep telling us, Aussie, Surfer ). Also great lap by Lewis to split the Red-Bulls although i doubt he would have if Vettel hadn`t had "issues".
I wonder i said issues will effect tomorrows race, it seemed he wasn`t happy with the car after qualifying, though that maybe just the fact he didn`t get pole  Alonso = |

Vettel and Webber come together - Vettel out.

Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
Did David Coulthard ever have a coming together with Mika Hakkinen when they where team mates at McLaren?
Maybe David should confirm this :p: Good race with two teams fighting it out at the front with all four cars seeming to have similar pace, plus the added bonus of potential rain. Personally from what i saw it looked like Vettel was at fault for the "incident" and Webber was lucky that he finished third. You could see from the driver interviews that Webber thought he`d turned in on him. I also liked the bit where Lewis clocked the camera was on them and basically said "not now guys, big brother is watching" :D Ferrari = http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/3823/24929.jpg |
Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
Congratulations to Lewis and Jensen, about time the luck went Lewis's way for a change. Good racing between them in the last few laps.
I do feel sorry for Mark Webber though. He ran a perfect race only to be scuppered by his team "mate." But what a recovery; he rejoined the race only three seconds behind Jensen Button, pitted for a new nosed and still came out in front of Schumacher. Driver of the race, for me. If he had bowed out though, it would have put both McLarens in first and second for the championship. |
Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
If we are honest, Webber and Vettel should have finished 1 2, and Vettels moment of madness gifted 1 2 to Hamiton and Button.

Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
Just got in from my Duty Pilot Fireman shift at the airfield and watched the race. Hmm, a race with what appeared to be three unhappy drivers on the podium.
My take on the front end of the grid: Red Bulls: Close with Webber fading towards the end (Tyres?) Vettel pulling a perfectly good move spoiled by a moment of madness trying to squeeze Webber as if he was on another team. Webber doesn't expect this as its not something usually done between team mates. 100% Vettel's fault (bearing in mind they are team mates) showing his inexperience but an easy mistake to make and I hope hes not crucified for it. Mclaren: Hamilton as expected pushing his car harder throughout the race whilst Button looks after his, towards the end Button pumps in the fastest laps and gets faster and faster against a fading Hamilton (Tyres !?!). After the Red Bull accident Buttons inevitable attempt at a pass doesn't quite pay off and scared the Mclaren team call a hold to the proceedings I'd guess at the following thoughts at the end. 1. Hamilton: Knows his battle with Button was called off by the team probably feeling guilty he was gifted the win and knew that Button was faster and would have given him a run for his money. 2. Button: Knew he was faster but team orders stopped him challenging for a pass he no doubt was sure he could make. 3. Webber: Gutted that he was taken out, even more so by his team mate. Silver Lining is he's leading the championship 4. Vettel: Initially blamed Webber, after calming down then very guilty as he knew it was his fault. In the rest of the race: - Ferrari will be kicking themselves for such a poor showing as they slip further behind. Have they given up on this year already? - Sauber seem to have made big steps forward passing both Toro Rosso and Williams - Lotus race pace is steadily improving easily making them the quickest of the new teams and it seems will not be long before they are on the tales of the midfield. Qualifying was hard to judge due to the use of the Hard Tyre but puts them likewise slightly improving. Shame about the reliability which they need to improve lest they live upto "Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious" - Virgin's qualifying pace was good with Glock keeping the gap to the Lotus respectable but what happened to Di Grassi? Race pace was poor but at least they made it to the end which is a start - HRT are improving, qualifying was nothing special however race pace was on par with the Virgins and they actually made a pass on Di Grassi's Virgin |
Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
Webber faded because he was told to turn his engine down to save fuel. Likewise so was Hamilton / Button but Button saved less. All 3 drivers could have gone faster but were at the risk of not finishing. Hamilton seemed unhappy because him being told to save fuel almost lost him the win against his team mate who also got told to save fuel. So you were kinda wrong on the front end of the grid :p:
I agree on Ferrari, Renault seem to be doing better than Ferrari at the moment I guess if Ferrari aren't winning they're not interesting in improving just like last year. Sauber's true pace wasn't really known - this is the first race they've both finished so they've hardly had a good weekend to show their true pace but they've definitely improved. The 3 new teams are improving but reliability is an issue for all 3 with Virgin being the most reliable, Lotus are definitely the pace setters of the new teams as you say. That is something I expected as Lotus have got more experienced staff and so should be ahead. HRT are really only on the grid to keep their place and don't really have a proper setup geared to improving the car. |

Being asked to save fuel when it goes to both drivers and is made sure that it is a point that both drivers have been told can easily be read as "calm down both of you". The whole sudden Jenson your tyres and fuel are critical was a blatant "slow down or else" message especially as throughout the majority of the race and through past experience Jenson is so much easier on both than Hamilton!! Also couple this with the evasiveness to Eddies questions (who knew precisely what was being pulled) post race and the Hamilton-Button battle call-off becomes obvious Quote:

Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
I wasn't disputing that McLaren may have told their drivers to cool it after they swapped the lead twice. I'm disputing the fact that Webber / Hamilton were fading due to tyre issues.
Webber was in fuel saving mode - Vettel wasn't as he had saved some fuel earlier so could run flat for 1 lap more - http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/84050 The McLarens were told to save fuel before the Red Bull incident - Red Bull even told Vettel that the McLarens were saving fuel. They were told a few times actually and Hamilton slowed more than Button which is why they closed up. I'd disagree on the tyre usage as well - Bridgestone have repeatedly said there is hardly anything between the 2 McLaren drivers in terms of tyre wear with both being in the middle in terms of heavy/light tyre usage. |
Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
It will be interesteing to see if Mclaren do release the fuel figures for their two drivers ;)
|
Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
I couldn`t care less who was told to save what where, it was the best dry race for quite a while. Lets hope Red-Bull and Mclaren can keep battling at the front and hopefully another team can match them for pace.
This is the sort of thing we wan`t to see in Formula 1, bit of action, controversy and team mates going at it hammer and tongue, not some boring follow me leader or more likely the leader(s) cruise(s) off into the distance and the rest just scrap a little here and there.
