Well, anyone in the Glossop area get caught out today ? I did, on the way to a job, travelling along the A628 ( about 12 miles east of Glossop ) when all of a sudden, bang, the temperature dropped, the rain on the road got buried and froze under the now fast falling snow, a couple of miles on and we were stuck, along with about 40 - 60 cars, lorries and a bike. With a combination of pushing, sliding and a lot of luck, we managed to get turned around and finally got back home, job cancelled.

What surprised me was just how quick the snow settled on the wet road, as I said, the temp just plummeted, oh well, here's to winter :D

I dunno about there, but it's been a long time coming here. The temperatures have shot downward today, I was freezing on the way to work and I nearly cried when I realised the petrol gauge was more or less empty and knew I'd be getting out of the car again on the way.

Would you believe it, I'm getting grief at work for not being able to get to the job, asides from the fact we nearly got stuck there for an indeterminable time, some people :rolleyes:

If anyone can find a link with the story, a local rag or something, something along the lines of people stranded etc etc, I'll shove it where the sun don't shine :D

Took my son out in the snow for the first time today - he's been watching too much Pingu and snowballed an old woman cleaning her car before I could stop him. Short lecture on snow etiquette followed, followed by the old lady being allowed a free hit at him. That'll teach him some manners.

I remember (years ago) when I worked near London Bridge. There had been reall bad weather, and all the trains in my area were cancelled as a result. There was no way on earth I could have got in, so I phoned in and said I couldn't make it to work.

I got told that I should have walked. When I complained that I lived 15 miles (at least) away from work, I was told that was irrelevant.

Anyway, when I put my dogs out this morning, the Yorkie (almost nothing fazes him) just ran around a bit and went about his business). The Westie, who has never seen snow before, but who I expected to like snow (she likes extreme temperatures, and loves to play) took one look, darted out onto the grass, did her business and darted back indoors, looking like something was chasing her.

We've hadat least 3 inches in Harlow & Stansted it has taken me 1 hour 40 mins to get to work.

I am glad that those of you who snow are enjoying it. I hope you continue to have all the snow that you want. I don't relish the idea of snow. When it snows here we have to grin and bear it. Children love it. Those of us who have to travel in it know that it causes chaos. It very rarely hits the national news when the snow falls in Scotland. I have been watching the news and all the news channels are preoccupied with the snow. Hoping the snow keeps falling where it is and I will stick to the music channels. Enjoy the snow. :D
