Any reason given? It's disappointing that VM are actually losing some OD content when it is one of their stronger selling points.

'scuse ignorance but what is "nn012"?

I think the HBO drop will be due to the contract with VM coming to an end and Sky having the 'exclusive' rights to HBO shows for the UK

It will be counting test channels and on some boxes it will count interactive streams.

Is it correct to say then that the type of box is the differentiator and not the region? Ah, no, I just realised that we're still not all on a level playing field as some ex-TW/ex-NTL channels are not yet available everywhere. Maybe by the end of the year.

There will always be regional differences, such as the Irish and Welsh channels.

Felim_Doyle 15-10-2010 22:11

Re: Virgin Media Changelog

Partly true, I think. NI doesn't have any more or fewer channels AFAIK, unless they currently get RTÉ (an agreement has been reached for reciprocal exchange of UK and RoI channels throughout Ireland on DTT but I'm not sure how cable is affected) but they do have a regional variation of BBC NI and the UTV alternatives to ITV1 and ITV HD. Wales has the additional channels S4C and, until recently, S4C2 but other than that it's just regional variations of BBC Wales and ITV Wales & West, previously known as HTV.

So, if I'm correct, Wales is the only place that the number of channels should differ if all else were equal.

spiderplant 15-10-2010 22:33

Re: Virgin Media Changelog

Hopelessly wrong :)

NI gets RTÉ1, RTÉ2 and TG4, but doesn't get Challenge Jackpot. Wales gets S4C and S4C AD. Grimsby gets Channel 7. Leicester gets MATV. Several regions have two or three BBC1s and ITV1s.

Good job I'm not sensitive to your abuse! (Mum, he's being mean to me.)

OK, so they do get the RoI channels in NI and trawler crews and Midland Asians are better represented than the rest of us. We all have access to the BBC national variations but not the BBC and ITV regional variations. I must admit, I often misuse the term regional when I mean national variation.

It makes you wonder why they don't allow everyone access to the regional variations, perhaps via the red button. If they have to do it for some postcodes anyway then it can't really be a bandwidth issue.

I think the general expectation is that the best shows from those deceased channels as well as Channel One (formerly Virgin1) will be spread across the remaining ex-Virgin Media TV channels and probably also Sky Atlantic in the case of some US programming.

Interestingly, the ex-Virgin Media TV channels are now owned by Living TV Group (see also Channel One (UK TV channel)).

ITV1 Granada+1 has joined the EPG in North West England on channel 114 and begins broadcasts at 2000 tonight.

I understand ITV Broadcasting Ltd has been granted 6 licences by OFCOM to cover these areas so you will get the relevant 'sub region' : -

1. ITV1 Central+1
2. ITV1 Granada+1 (Granada/Border)
3. ITV1 London+1
4. ITV1 Meridian+1 (Meridian/Anglia)
5. ITV1 West+1 (West/Westcountry/Wales)
6. ITV1 Yorkshire+1 (Yorkshire/Tyne Tees)

STV+1 and UTV+1 are also testing on satellite, I assume in anticipation of a launch.

Not that it affects any VM customers but ITV Channel Television is not providing a +1 service for their ITV1 broadcasts.

We noticed some existing series links didn't work after 1 February either on ex VMtv channels but that's been sorted now. We had to delete the old one and set it up again but some series links didn't reappear until Wednesday. It's seems fine now though.

The SD PQ is definitely lower on Sky Living and Challenge now though as was reported by Sky users on DS. They are much the same as Sky 1 now, smudgey!

With Skys present contempt for their Virgin customers I would say they will definately not be providing VOD in the future.

The age on my profile is how old the ''Media Boy'' brand is.

Ah, the goalposts have moved from 'nobody' to 'a tiny minority'......;)

Re: Virgin Media Changelog

HD is still a "minority" when compared with SD yet we all want more of that.

I think providing 3D content is a good thing. Whilst I agree VM should be adding more HD channels, being the competitive market this is, they must be seen to be offering services on par with Sky.
