Re: PVR release dates

I was originally told to ring back in Feb, then 23rd Jan. Just rung and booked my V+ install for 3rd Feb before 1pm (Dover).

It's a good job really as my 12 months is now up and I was going to go back to Sky+HD. Now I don't have too :)

Re: PVR release dates

I HAVE BOOKED MY TVDRIVE INSTALLATION DATE HOORAY! :) :) :)

Thanks to Crooky and Blueview for sharing their method. The important thing to remember is DON'T RING SALES they will tell you that its not avaliable till mid Feb. However if you phone CS and get transferred to the V team they will book your installation no problem and they are very helpful.
As Crooky said the soonest install date is the 6th Feb, so best to get on the phone and book or you'll be waiting ages.

The guy I spoke to also told me that most areas on the Bromley platform can book an installation now and that everywhere would be able to book by the 30th January - don't know how true this is but thats what he said. :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

ecw199 - Congratulations. Well done.
Has the other Havant guy arranged anthing yet?
There must have been a few people booking between my phone call this afternoon and yours this evening.
Unless, of course, there are only a couple of engineers!
Mine is being put in on Friday 1st.
I'll jet you know how it goes.
Was the £75 installation fee mentioned?

I'm very pleased but I did originally phone at lunch time and if they'd let me book then I might have got an earlier date! :dozey: Still the important thing is I've got a date. :) They did mention the £75 installation fee but as I want keep my original box and have it put in my bedroom it wasn't an issue. I don't know if the other havant guy has booked his, I haven't seem him on the boards for a few days.

So the cheecky people in sales lied then to us.

So they can accept orders and bookings for the new drives now?

Re: PVR release dates

Spoke to a guy in Sales week before last. He said that TVDrive training was taking place last week. Seems to be the case. After banging my head against a brick wall before, I rang up this evening. CS person knew exactly what I was asking about, and said it would be no problem to add to my package for my install date (10th Feb). She said to call back nearer the time to make sure it is put on my account (said that it could be put on the system after the 30th, as that's the release date for my area).

She asked if i knew the details, i said yes, £15/month. She then said something like, "Incredibly, it's only £10/month with the Family pack". Heh - nice bit of training talking there! :)

Re: PVR release dates

Just spoke to customer services (phone answered immediately) to check release dates for Manchester - it's already available and I can book an install! Whoop-de-do!

I have done that, mine isn't til Feb 24th but that is at my own request as it needs to be a Saturday install and I'm away the weekend before. They could have done it next week if I wasn't working in the week.

Because I have two boxes currently, and am keeping the second box, my installation is FREE, the second box gets removed and the existing master box is moved upstairs and becomes the second box. The whole caboodle will cost me around £10 more than I currently pay.

That, I have to say, is excellent!

I am booked in for 2nd February 2007. What i would like to know is am i going to get a TVDrive box or a Virgin Media V+ box? Are the boxes different or the same but with different brand names. If Virgin Media launches on 14th February 2207 then why would they release the V+ box before that date?
The Telewest TVDrive Box has been out for some time now does anyone know the specs of the V+ box?

the vigin boxes are black so i dont mind either way as we dont own the box anyway but a silver tv drive would be nice as all our stuff is silver.

Just booked installation in BN13 area (Worthing) for 6th Feb
Went though to CS, opt 2, opt 2, asked about TV Drive and the guy who answered the phone new exactly what I was refering to, although he said the training had been a bit sketchy so far.
There was some confusion about whether I would have to have a separate cable modem (I currently have 2xSTB, one of which provides broadband) but I said I didn't think so, as I'm keeping the STB which provides the BB and so he took the order anyway, even though he had some doubts.

This is the first time anything with ntl's TV service has made me think "yes, this sounds really good", suddenly TV is moving at a rate of knots after years of neglect.

My decision to stick with the cable platform I have used since 1995 has been worth it.

Hmm - having had an email from CS saying go-live date is 23rd January, and two calls to CS also confirmed that date, I called this morning to place my order. Was put through to sales who told me the go-live date had been put back to 30th January now (despite CS checking and putting me through).

Had 4 attempts this morning in BN43 (Shoreham) area. Each time managed to get customer care to put me through to the team that deal with V Boxes. First call "is available from 30th January, you can ring and book from then." Second call got the reply that "you can book from some time in February." Third call - "it is being trialled in the North and may not even be used everywhere if trial unsuccessful, you need to check website." Fourth call, I was back to "you can book from January 30th"

I did mention each time that I knew of people 4 or 5 miles away from me who had been successful getting install dates yesterday. The replies ranged from "that was done incorrectly" to "they are unlikely to get it installed as it has not rolled out there" to " no they did not, that is impossible, you are thinking of Sky HD" When I explained I knew the difference, I was told "you obviously don't, as no bookings have been made in Southern England and it will be some time before they are!!":dunce:

Think I will give up for a few hours and try again......

My approach so far has been to be as nice and friendly as possible, are the successful bookers taking a different approach??;)

This is simply not true! I live on the south coast and was able to book an installation no problems and I'm not the only one, 5 people where I work in portsmouth have all got dates and at least 2 other people on this forum had no problems.

Did you phone sales directly! If you did thats the problem, sales seem to be telling everyone that its not avaliable til after the virgin media launch in mid-feb. THIS IS NOT TRUE. But if you spoke to the V+ team then I can't understand why they would tell you no one in southern england can get it

As for being nice and friendly, that was my approach too! In fact I just had to mention tvdrive and I was put straight through to the booking team who were incredible helpful and friendly, told me all about and booked a date straight away - the best service I've ever received from NTL. If you are phoning them again you can tell them that people with PO postcodes are having no probs

I'm in KT22 Leatherhead, Surrey. I was advised a week ago that I could book from today. Phoned 150, asked for V+ installs and told "you can book from early February". Rung off, and dialled again, very helpful lady booked me in for 9th February. I asked her to note the problems clients are having due to lack of training.

I know it's not true, as well as the people such as yourself who have arranged bookings, my brother who lives about a mile away, has also booked.

I tried the 150 number and the 0845 number and spoke to both sales and customer services. Each time they put me through to the team that supposedly deals with V+ boxes.

Either there is some bad training or bad communication on that team. I suppose it's even possible they don't have enough boxes or engineers free at the moment - All we want is a little honesty and consistency though!!

Whe I even offered my brothers account number to prove a booking had been made, I was told that it was pointless to check, as I was completely wrong and so was my brother:Yikes: . I think she just managed to stop short of calling me a liar:disturbd:

Hi,

Sorry if this sounds a bit of a silly question, but I only heard about the TV Drive a couple of days ago (and didn't even know what one was then!)

At the moment I have one set top box, TV + family pack, 2MB Broadband and landline phone with NTL and I wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction as to the best deal to try and get? I can't see the wood for the trees for all the technical jargon I've tried to read through and need a bit of help plse. :)

Also, is there any disadvantage to having a TV Drive now, rather than waiting until it officially comes out on February 14th? I seem to remember someone saying that it would be the official Virgin Media TV Drive in February.

Many thanks in advance for answering my queries.

Carrie :)

With your package you can have the V+ box for £10 per month on top of your current price (instead of £15pm).

If you simply swap your current STB for the V+ box you will have to pay a £75 installation fee. If you decide to keep you current box as a second STB then the £75 installation fee will be waived and you will only be charged £5 per month for the second box (instead of £15pm).

N.B. There is a 12 month minimum contract on the V+ box and also a 12 month minimum contract on the £5 second STB.

These prices may all change after 14th February when Virgin take-over.

Thanks King Of Fools for the info.

So is the only advantage/disadvantage to waiting until February 14th that the prices may go down (or up)?

It seems that way. Spoke to someone yesterday who knew all about it. They said it was released on 30th in my area (NW london), and there'll be no problem adding it to my package.....but these conflicting reports are worrying me. If I call up on the 30th to confirm my 10th Feb install (+TVDrive) and the release date has changed I'm going to be pretty unhappy.

Cool - I got through to someone in Customer Services who knew all about the box (150 Option 5) and despite me saying I needed to be put through to the V Box Team she was able to deal with the installation there and then. She checked her system to ensure Nottingham (NG6) was enabled (it is).

Booked for Thursday 8 February 12-6pm :)

Totally painless....

She did ask where I'd heard about it - 'on the internet' - 'ah yes' she replied :D

She also confirmed they had only just had training on the TV Drive, and she asked me 'do you know what it can do ?' and I replied 'why yes' and she said 'that saves me a whole load of spiel then' :D

Re: PVR release dates

I rang CS yesterday - curious to see what they would say. I live in Warrington, and the V+ team said it is not enabled yet - should be mid February.

£75.00 for the box and £10 per month extra or
Free box and £5 per month to keep existing box as a second box + £10.00.

Looks like I'll have to wait a little longer.

My mum has Sky+ (I really don't know which is the better - I actually think NTL has slightly better picture quality and a slightly better EPG when it's working - easier to see and show channels you are not subscribed to). Anway, she tried to record something between 20:00 and 21:00 on ITV, and at 21:30 it was still going and showing no signs of stopping. Reminds me of a story about porridge.

Thanks,

Nigel

Hi Keith

You should be able to get it! I live in PO9 and i've got an installation date of 6th Feb. Blueview who's PO16 and Crooky who's in Gosport have also had no probs and people where I work in Portsmouth also got install dates.

What ever you do don't call sales, I phoned them first and they told me it wouldn't be available till feb. NOT TRUE. I phoned CS on 0845 454 0000 and then choose option 5. Tell them you want to find out about the tvdrive and they should transfer you to the V+ booking team who should take your booking no hassle. At least thats what happened to me yesterday.

Re: PVR release dates

I just dialled 150 and pressed #5, got put through to someone and I asked them if the TV Drive was available in Bedfordshire now. I was told it wasn't and wouldn't be available until February 15th. When I told him that I know a lot of people who already have the TV Drive he told me they are on trial in their area and that it wouldn't be available to everybody until the 15th Feb. When I pushed it and said that these people didn't seem to be having the TV Drive on trial, he said 'yes, they are.'

I'm even more confused now.

Oh and another thing, I asked again about the cost, just to verify, and was told that it would cost £10 per month for the TV Drive, nothing for installation and if I wanted to keep my set top box it would be an extra £5. When I asked how much it would cost if I gave my stb back, he said 'it will then cost you just £10 for the TV Drive.'

Can anyone make sense of this please?

Many thanks,

Carrie :)

If you are on family pack (TV Size: XL) or above then the rental is £10 per month otherwise it is £15 per month.

Hi, thanks for your reply, yes we are on Family Pack. Other people have said though, that if you keep your stb it works out best cost-wise otherwise you have to pay for installation? I'm totally confused to be honest, there's so much information on the forums and I've spent ages today looking through that my eyes have turned square!

Could you possibly break down the costs a bit more please, i.e. is it better to keep the stb and have the TV Drive or is it best to just have the TV Drive? (We would only be keeping the stb if it was part of a good deal, we don't really need one in the bedroom or elsewhere).

Many thanks,

Carrie :)

King Of Fools 23-01-2007 17:49

Re: PVR release dates

V+ box rental is £10 pcm (TV Size: XL) otherwise £15 pcm.

Installation is £75 unless you keep your current STB.
If you decide to keep you current box as a second STB you will be charged £5 pcm for the second box (instead of the normal £15 pcm for a second STB).

N.B. There is a 12 month minimum contract on the V+ box and also a 12 month minimum contract on the £5 second STB.

Please, for the benefit of others - in your post, can you state your postcode - first part, and whether you are on Langley, Bromley or Telewest?

Well I'm in Bedfordshire - Sandy SG19.... and mine is being fitted on Saturday.. I am paying an extra £5 a month for it.(Keeping my existing box).

No one mentioned that it was a trial to me. No one mentioned that it was a new 12month contract either.

Only thing I don't know is whether I will get a TVDrive or the new black V+HD box. Have specified the black V+ so we wait to see :)

PS think i'm Bromley platform as ex-CW area.

That's interesting Jefferson as I'm just down the road from you - SG18 and yet I was told that I couldn't get the TV Drive until February 15th!

N.B. There is a 12 month minimum contract on the V+ box and also a 12 month minimum contract on the £5 second STB.

Thanks very much for that. :tu: :)

CT16, KENT (Bromley)

Installation booked for 3rd Feb.

Dialed 150 Option 5. Operator knew what it was, didn't need to pass me to anyone. Booked it there and then. Is also sending cables out (via post I presume).

Totally painless.

PO9 - Havant, Hampshire - (Bromley)

Dialled 150, option 5.

Agent checked against my postcode and address, and informed me that it would not be available until 30th Jan, and suggested I call back on or after the 30th.

Oh well, I can wait.

ref King Of Fools question re costings:
I'm keeping the second box (but not having it installed just yet!), thus saving £75 intallation.
My monthly cost for the V Box is £10. The unused old box is £5 monthly
But I'm given a £5 discount as I have the Family Pack
So, in essence, it's £10 monthly but no installation fee.
;)
The alternative was to send the box back with the engineer.
That would mean I'd pay £75 installation.
The monthly cost was then £10 with no discount !
:erm:
That's my deal, but it'll come down to who you speak with and what incentives they're on. I understand Virgin aim to rationilse and stabilise the somewhat haphazard pricing structures and discounts that NTL have worked with over the last ten years !!

BB2 Blackburn (Bromley, I think...)

V+ Box on 3rd Feb.

Me too, I'm on the XL pack, and the woman on the other side of the phone said I can keep the box as with Virgin MultiRoom, and get the V+ box, and it will only cost me £10 p/m for the V+ Box... that's it.

No extra charge for multiroom!

How great is that? :D

PO6 - Portsmouth - Bromley

I Called several times over the past weeks and all told me to call on the 23rd(today). So I gave up till then, i called at 8:00 and was told it had been delayed till 30th, then I called again, knowing that half never know what they are talking about. I then asked to speak to whoever supervised the V+ team and asked why, as I knew people were booking installations. She said she doesn't know anything about it. So i tried the 150 and other 0845 number, selecting option 5, again told delayed till mid Feb.

After my frustration I asked the wife to call, she got through in minutes and said im interested in the V+ Box, the operator said will you be needing the HDMI cable? and installation booked for 29th Jan.

I'm quite impressed, but i don't see the installation happening.

Re: PVR release dates

I've been told by an engineer last night that there is absolutely no difference inside or on the back of a black V box or a silver NTL box.
The only difference is colour and logos.
The V box will come with the new coding/software already loaded.
All NTL boxes will have this downloaded to them in the next week.
So it's really down to colour preference and having the new company's logo.

Thanks,

Nigel

PO14 Fareham Bromley (I think)

Spoke to Customer Services and the V+ box isn't available until the end of Feb.

The costs are different to those quoted above. I was told £75 installation, £15pm for the V+ and £9.50pm to move the existing STB to the bedroom (price w.e.f 1st Feb)

And I won't need a seperate cable modem.

I think most of what I have been told is utter tosh but will wait until March before double checking their pricing.

if you check http://www.whycable.co.uk/pricechang...Price_List.pdf then you'll see that the prices are already listed.
The V+ Box is shown as £15 per month, unless you have the XL Package (which is the new name for the Family Pack). An additional STB in the house will cost you £9.50 per month without V+, or £5 with V+.
The £75 installation charge will be applied if you exchange your current STB for V+. If you keep your existing STB as an additional box, (and pay the £5 per month charge), then the £75 fee is waived.

The charges have been documented in other threads.

Cool. Thanks for the info. I'm not disputing the costs but it looks like I was only told half the story.

I see from some of the quotes above, some people are only paying £10pm for V+ (including keeping the original STB). Is that because they have the Sports/Movies package?

If you have the TV Size: XL pack then it is £10 per month.

It really could not be clearer in the PDF.

Hi Newtod

Its not that its not available in the solent region, I suspect the its more like they've either run out of installation dates or the boxes themselves. blueview must be just down the road from you (hes PO16) and he got a date okay as did I (PO9) and Crooky in Gosport. I think there just trying to stager the demand by claiming its not avaliable

Sorry - I did put that it was a different price with XL, but forgot to add the amount.
It's interesting to note that if you currently have an additional STB, that will cost you £15 per month. Take the V+ box on the new rates, and keep your existing STB, and the cost is £10 + £5 per month. Same price, so for anyone currently with two boxes, it makes sense to change one and pay the same rate.

Did I not also read somewhere that you can set it off outputting and watch something else while you're copying off onto dvd?

Re: PVR release dates

You certainly can! The V+ Extras section includes "Copy to VCR/DVD" - this will play any recorded content you select to the VCR SCART only, leaving you free to watch whatever you want on the TV SCART/HDMI/Component outputs while the recorded programme copies over! And you can still record two other programmes at the same time. :D

For it to copy HD content, though, you'll need the main output to be in SCART mode.

Just to throw a spanner into the works - I actually said to the V Box agent :
"So the extra net cost to me for the V Box and the non-connected old Samsung Box is £10 a month"
His answer : "Yes. You can have the Samsung connected later if you wish, but by leaving it on the premises you'll save the £75 installation fee."
I honestly can't see anyone sensibly sending the old box back.
When connected and used for a year and then cancelled it'll cost £60 whilst sending it back will cost £75 !

I've just phoned up NTL and explained that a lot of people are preordering the TVDrive. My postcode is in Dorset. The gentleman said they are still only trialling it in 3 areas (up North, sorry can't remember which). He stated that customer services release date details are not being updated as regularly as they should be and that customer services should definitely not be prebooking. He reckoned that by mid February they would have a better idea of what is going in.

BlueView 25-01-2007 17:44

Re: PVR release dates

But why would they need to run a trial of the V box?
The V box is the same as Telewest's TV drive apart from logos and colour.
The only difference is in the code (and that is being downloaded to Telewest's hardware this week) so perhaps it's this that they're trialling.
The boxes are out there and available from Feb 1st onwards.

Yes it has HDMI and Component.

At the mo there is only the BBC HD channel, but hopefully there will be more channels added soon.

TV Drive is cheaper than Sky HD and can off course record 2 channels while watching a 3rd :)

I'm in for the 3rd Feb, but I want it now! lol

I keep hearing better and better things about it, and I have 7 days to wait.

I have heard that the waiting list is now 3 weeks or so, but the possibility of DVI connection and the basic picture improvement, the recording functions, the fact the Mrs. is watching American Idol and I hate the program, so the multiroom option will be there for me to watch WWE or Football...

Still waiting for Bravo2 on the platform, but I have to wait till about the 14th, so I am told...
