Found some old Jeffery Farnol books. Not read them since I was a very young teenager..I did try to buy some more BUT they are out of print and aren't cheap to buy in any kind of good condition so unless I stumble across some more in an old book store or a jumble sale I guess that's it...:(

Shame they are rather charming..:)

Ah, good stuff!

I've read almost all of the Harry Bosch books, & some non-Bosch ones.

Great books.

I'd also recommend the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child, & the Charlie Parker books by John Connolly. Oh, & the "Prey" books with Lucas Davenport by John Sandford.

Thanks for the heads up Matt, I'll keep a look out for John Connolly and John Sandford, as far as Lee Child goes I've already fallen under the spell of that great lone drifter Jack Reacher, a superb creation by the author.:)
But I hadn't checked to see if he'd any new books out...and bingo he has, the last one I read was "The Hard Way", when Jack finally comes to England and ultimately ends up dispensing his own form of justice at a remote farmhouse, great stuff.
Lee Child now has the 11th and 12th Reacher novels out, the 11th "Bad Luck and Trouble" is available in paperback and the 12th "Nothing to Lose" is in hardback.

A big thanks for jogging my memory about Big Jack.:D

I am nearly at the end of A Thousand Spendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini.

What a book, it is so sad but a compelling read, I am a tough cookie, but it has reduced me to tears at times!
It is a story of physical and emotional violence, despair, but also hope of a better life.

It is so well written, just as good as his first book The Kite Runner.

Into the Dark by Jonty Brown

Great Book

Quote:

"Into the Dark" offers a gripping insight into life in the RUC: the day-to-day reality of policing the streets of West Belfast during the dark days of the PIRA hunger strike, and what it was like to be a detective stationed in the "killing fields" of North Belfast during the 80s. The narrative lays bare some of the key terrorist personalities, as well as those operating within the Special Branch to pervert the course of justice as a means of asserting internal control.

good isn't it ?

I read "gridlinked" years ago but have just decided to read the whole series.
Which means buying gridlinked again and getting "the line of polity"
The rest of the "cormac" novels are lined up ready to go:)

"prador moon" wasn't too bad either

Yup - got / read them all.

Didn't think much of "Cowl" (non-Polity), but liked the rest (including Hilldiggers, which is slightly Polity, but not Cormac).

Lovely Bones, by Alice Seabold.

Great book, about a young rape and killing, the girl who gets killed sort of looks down from wherever and the book is written fron her perspective about how all the alive family deal with it, and the final justice coming to the killer.

Wierd topic, but so well written, it is actually a compulsive read!
