On the box that only has one Anytime listing do the planner rebuild in my post above , let us know if it populates as normal over the coming days. How many boxes do you have and what type are they ?

Will do MM, How long does it take? Football starts in about 15 minutes. :D

I've got 3 boxes in total. The 1tb, a Sky+HD and a SkyHD box. On another note do any of your boxes list have the option to view the HD&3D category in the TV Guide next to All Channels?

It takes about 2-3 minutes , on TV Guide next to All channels mine says HD.

Right, I did the planner rebuild after the match in the end. I was waiting around for a little while until I realised I've got to turn the box back on once it's done it's thing! :D

My SkyHD box lists that category as HD&3D for some reason but it's just listed as HD on the other 2..... Strange.

BBC boss says Sky does not give CBBC and CBeebies prominence on EPG

Quote:

A senior BBC executive has accused BSkyB of reneging on its obligation to give public service channels such as CBeebies and CBBC "due prominence" on its electronic programme guide.

BBC director of policy and strategy, John Tate, said CBeebies, the BBC's pre-school service, is now 13th on the EPG list of children's channels on Sky, with CBBC in 14th. Above it are channels such as Nicktoons, Boomerang and six Disney services.

The 1TB Sky+HD box already has more storage than any other pay TV PVR in the UK and Netflix is available on many other devices such as games consoles. Channel 4 catchup content will be available on a satellite channel soon enough.

I suspect he meant pornographic content is general. So banning freeview porn channels won't really stop kids seeing it.

Any kid with a Sky box in their bedroom probably also has a smartphone or laptop. So if this is a crusade to protect youngsters it's pointless.

BSkyB to cut BBC transmission charges by more than £5m a year

Quote:

BBC local radio services facing controversial cuts have found an unlikely saviour – BSkyB. The satellite broadcaster is reducing what it charges the BBC to transmit its TV channels and radio stations by more than £5m a year, with the corporation planning to use the windfall to reduce the local radio cuts.

BSkyB charges TV and radio broadcasters annual fees to carry their channels and stations on its satellite service with ITV, Channel 4, the BBC and Channel 5 currently paying about £24m a year.

Sky has said that it will slash those costs by over 50% by 2014 – from £24.4m to £11m for the main broadcasters – a combined saving of more than £16m.

iPlayer deal saves BBC Sky platform costs

Quote:

The amount paid by the BBC towards its carriage on the Sky DTH platform is to be reduced by up to 30% following its agreement to add iPlayer content to Sky Anytime+, Broadband TV News can reveal.

A new clause in BSkyB’s Published Price List reduces the amount paid by a public service broadcaster when one of its channels is contributing long form programming over broadband, on demand, to Sky DTH set-top boxes.

The BBC has been campaigning for a reduction in the £10 million (€11.4 million) paid for the distribution of its TV and radio content on Sky.

The move will reduce the amount paid by the corporation in Platform Contribution Charges for BBC One from BBC1 £4,319,830 per annum to £3,171,460, while charges for the BBC News channel will fall from £646,260 to £491,970 when the new charges come into effect on July 1, 2012.

ITV, Channel 4 and Five would also be eligible for the scheme, though to date the BBC and ITV are the two public service broadcasters that have committed to make on demand content available over Sky Anytime+.

ITV currently pays £3,747,925 for its main channel ITV1, a figure that will now fall to £2,751,720 from July.

Sky is in the process of opening up its five million Sky+ HD boxes to receive on demand content to all subscribers, regardless of the ISP selected by subscribers. It is anticipated the process will take place around Easter, though the BBC iPlayer is not expected to launch until later in the year.

Contribution charges, which include conditional access, and regionalization costs are calculated on a per subscriber basis.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2012...tflix-lovefilm

Quote:

BSkyB's battle to retain its stranglehold on Hollywood films on pay-TV has been given a potential boost, after the Competition Commission announced it will broaden its investigation to measure the impact of Netflix and LoveFilm.

Last summer the competition regulator published a provisional decision that BSkyB's contracts with the six major Hollywood studios – Disney, Warner Bros, Paramount, 20th Century Fox, Sony Pictures and Universal Studios – were anti-competitive and needed to be weakened to allow rivals to flourish.

On Wednesday the long-running investigation, which published a revised deadline of July for delivering its final report, said that it needed to extend the consultation to take into account changes in the movie market.

The Competition Commission admitted it needed to assess "potentially relevant" developments, in particular the arrival of US giant Netflix which launched in the UK and Ireland in January.

The commission also pointed to the need to assess LoveFilm, which is owned by internet retailer Amazon and has extended its rental-by-post model to offer streaming movies to customers.

BSkyB recently announced that it intends to launch its own internet service, which will include Sky Movies, that will stand alone from its TV channel subscription offering
Interesting development.

As the article states its a possible boost for Sky as Netflix and Lovefilm have signed quite a few deals with various studios which would point to there being competition in the market , it depends how dominant the CC feel Sky are I suppose.

My thought from the start was that CC didn't need to start this as big players have been hovering around this markets for a while now and it will change over the next couple of years.

Not sure i agree with that as far as i know Sky have and will continue to have the "first run rights" to all the Hollywood blockbusters,Netflix and Lovefilm are unlikely to get their hands on those,so i do not see the CC review as being irrelevant at all.

There is more competition that there was when CC began looking into this. It is still an industry in its infancy as there are still big players that could enter the market on their own, merge or takeover.

The simple fact is that excess profits lead to more companies looking into an industry. What CC have done is jumped the gun as we still don't know where this industry will exactly be in a couple of years time.

If they were to rule and interfere with an open market taking its course then that is not good for the consumer.

HBO pull plug on Horse Racing drama.

Quote:

HBO has pulled the plug on its big budget horse racing drama Luck, starring Dustin Hoffman and Nick Nolte, following the deaths of three horses and criticism from animal rights' campaigners.

The broadcaster said it was with heartbreak that it was cancelling all future production on the show, produced by Transformers director Michael Bay, which also stars Dennis Farina and airs in the UK on Sky Atlantic.

The announcement on Wednesday came a day after filming of the second series was suspended after the death of a third animal on the production.

The horse suffered a head injury when it reared and fell back while it was being led to a stable.

Two horses were hurt and subsequently put down during the filming of the first series.

Agreed , still I'm sure HBO will pump some more good stuff out.

Yes they do have a excellent track record of coming out with some fine series.

Nope just tried one from my iPad and it worked perfectly , do you have the green series link icon at the side of the remote recorded show when you go into your planner ?

Thanks for checking MM, no I don't. It shows the red R and series link logo within the app but when it's sent to the box it's just the red R on its own. :(

As a test so were both trying the same thing , set Petrol Age in showcase on iPad my series link has worked within seconds on the box.

Just done the same, the app shows as series link sent but it only appears as a single recording in my planner. I then have to go in and press green in order for it to become a series link. :(

On another note the Sky Sports News app has been updated to version 2.0 which includes the multi camera F1 companion experience.

---------- Post added at 16:33 ---------- Previous post was at 15:42 ----------

Ive read about Instant Rewind and i have read that ive i leave it turned on it makes the box easier to break down because its constantky recording in its buffer, is this true? Also any way of skipping parts instead of fast fawarding or rewinding like Tivo?

Sorry never used Sky games , I'm sure you can't skip forward like TIVO , try googling Using Sky+HD and you'll get the PDF manual.

Just to report back, I performed the software update that you suggested and now the series links are being recieved properly. :)

I notice that the poster on DS has replied to your question. Sound very interesting, I'm looking forward to seeing the first pictures or videos of it in action. :D

Indeed , seems its more cosmetic with some intuitive enhancements , wonder when the new Sky+ Zeebox app will launch I'm thinking before June. Glad you seemed to have sorted your issues did you get Sky premiere movies on all your boxes this week.

Sorry, missed this earlier. No, they're still not appearing as of today but I only performed that software update at lunchtime so hopefully they'll be a movie or 2 downloaded over the next couple of nights!

If not then I'm guessing they'll appear correctly in the Showcase section of Anytime+ once that goes live for me this week. :D

They should be there anyway both my boxes have them , your not using both tuners around midnight are you as anytime content requires one.

Doz007 17-03-2012 18:22

Re: General Sky TV Discussion

No, I record the odd channel at midnight now and again in order to avoid clashes but I've never used both tuners at that time. All the other Anytime content comes down ok, it's just the movies. If this software update doesn't work then I don't know what would - I've already done 2 planner rebuilds over the space of 16 days.... :(

muppetman11 17-03-2012 18:34

Re: General Sky TV Discussion

Ring Sky mate there is no logical reason , check it's not some kind of error on your account I have them all on both of my boxes.

Doz007 17-03-2012 18:44

Re: General Sky TV Discussion

Yeah I know, really strange. Especially when I get them on my bedroom box without a hitch. I'm not too bothered at the minute to be honest with you, I'm recording all the movies i'll watch myself anyway. If it doesn't correct itself come the Anytime+ rollout, I'll give them a bell. I have been in touch with the Sky help team on twitter and they also suggested the planner rebuild and software update. :)

Just done series links for the soaps and it only does the one time. E.g. Set Corro as series link and it doesnt show its going to record the 2 eps on Thursday just the 1st one. Checked EPG and same thing. Do i need to set up series for every day and time?

Whilst we don't record soaps in particular, the Sky boxes work differently to TiVo in that they only show the next episode that will be recorded. I'm sure that the series link will pick up all the episodes though. :)

Have you recently left TiVo for Sky also?

Oh ok. Ill see how it goes. Ya left my Tivo and V+ to come to Sky. Ive also found the TV sound is quieter so my volume on TV has to be higher to get same sound level, i can cope with that thou

I didn't notice any difference in sound levels, it was the speed and responsiveness of the menus that stood out to me initially. Well that and all the extra HD channels! :D

Yeah, I've got to agree MM the PQ is stunning and Sky are really leading the way when it comes to mobile apps!

To top it all off, I've just checked Anytime and I've got a movie!!

Granted, it's only the Poltergeist 2 on MGM HD but it's a start. :p:

Just used the 'Remind me' option during the Game of Thrones advert. I didn't realise that it takes you straight to a special screen giving you the option to record, series link etc. Very slick and impressive.

Hopefully they'll expand on features like these with the new EPG.
