The content is still recordable so I'm not sure on your point.

Is there a dedicated red button channel on the EPG, muppetman?

On SkyQ you can either press RED or select via the menu system.

The menu system also gives you recording options.

Sky shows Football and F1 in UHD but viewers with Sky Q have to press Red to view it.

Sky UK or Ireland do not have an UHD broadcasting channel.

This happens with red button options on sky - sometimes there may be 3 rugby matches on the same channel, with the menu option you could record all 3 with the requisite number of tuners available.

Really useful unlike virgin's offering

That could chamge, I should imagine. When the Olympics were on, VM allocated channel numbers in the 900 series for red button options, which meant you could record from them.

The scenario I am talking about happens regularly on sky sports - virgin is way behind in this aspect.

It’s true I get the feeling virgin will for a while on 4K play catch up with red button random sports and stuff sky doesn’t want. We pay for sky cinema sadly then 4K which is a big section we don’t get but we pay as much or more

Maybe Virgin will get the rights to Sky Sports UHD when it deal is up with Sky. The old Five year deal is up in May 2019.

Virgin Media is set to update V6 Boxes in the coming months so that scenario - of taping Red Button things - will maybe be added soon for all we know.

If you mean the roll-out of the software level that is being piloted in some areas, that doesn’t include recording from red button.

So recording red button or any sort of UHD is a long way off

ITV is considering entering into a £1bn joint venture with the BBC by buying half of the Dave broadcaster UKTV, in a move to fortify British television against the increasing power of US tech giants.
It is understood that the long-standing rivals are considering a deal that could redraw battle lines and accelerate attempts to create a homegrown competitor to Netflix.
The window of opportunity to seal the partnership will close within a fortnight, however.

Virgin can if their wanted to but their run business like Telewest - they do not add channels until it deal is up.

Virgin Media's deal with Sky for all Sky own Channels is up in May 2019.

Sky own Sky Sports, Sky Cinema (It was called Sky Movies in 2014) and Sky Basic (Sky One, Sky News and Sky Sports News)
