Anybody who thinks I do not like ntl is wrong. I like NTL I just think that they are a bit slow at getting things done....but overall they give me a good service and i am quite happy with them.

NTL have a larger user base, hence more traffic. lets take the figure of 300,000 10mb users more users than telewest.

300,000 more users would need at least 1tb link to multiple transit providers around europe, US etc,

Whats the lead time of getting these type of fibre links installed ? and the equipment required to handle the task?

Its not just a case of upgrading what NTL own, its all about capacity and lead times, fibre links, equipment etc,

I still think NTL are doing a great job and one day NTL will win the UK cable battle.:tu:

isp's got a soft touch in this country so many say unlimited when they are not. Something like this is not unlimited it is just hiding the cap level. "we reserve the right to take action if your downloading affects other users".

NTL are not guilty of this so its not a slam at them :)

I can promise you 300,000 users doesn't need at least 1Tbit of transit.

ntl, Telewest, BT and AOL combined don't have 1Tbit of transit.

I could give you the exact amount of capacity that ntl had on the broadband cable network when I left, however I'll stop at saying it's a lot less than 100Gbit and more than enough for the job.

1Tbit is a huge huge number and no IP network in the UK or for that matter anywhere else can support that kind of abuse at the moment. (Note use of 'IP' I'm aware of 80 wavelength DWDM, etc, that supports 10Gbit/wavelength though even then you only get 800Gbit/s per fibre.)

If you are happy with NTL why complain?

What are you missing out on by not having your speed upgraded today? What are you prevented from doing?

I have not seen any post or news report that ntl were going to upgrade anyone today. Not seen any reports of firm dates. What another company does has no bearing on my work or my connection. It is at this time impossible for me to be installed with Telewest broadband. Therefor i will not be getting upset that i have not been upgraded today by telewest. :D

However i will be upgraded by NTL when they are good and ready. I am a 3 meg user and therefor will be amongst the first to be upgraded when they are good and ready. :D

Then i will be able to download my daily Linux iso's that little bit faster

Slow at getting things done?

Nearly all the people here have no idea whether they are getting it done fast or getting it done slowly.

Same goes for knowing what technical differences between ntl and tw there are with the upgrades, ruling out the 'tw are getting it done faster' argument.

You pay for the service you have now, not for what you may have in the next month, so its not like you can complain.

The question really is "what do you do that needs that speed?" Also what can't you do that you could do with a 10 Mbps connection? And I don't mean download at 1.2Mb/s. :D

If that were true then there would be no point the the upgrades at all? wot do u think i will do with the 10mbit? lol
I will use my connection...either downloadin demo's and stuff or playing online. I want more upload the most though to play xbox live with the least lag. I find my severs crash if alot of people come in due to low upload speeds.

I asked the question because there are many people who will pick on anything just in order to have a go at NTL (or whoever). Some people want the speed because it sounds cool to say that they have it but don't use their connection for anything that requires that amount of bandwidth. Very few people will actually make use of the full 10 Mbps but will complain vehemently if speed checks show that they are not getting every bit of it or if they are a day later getting it than someone else.
