Yep not far away now, for those that are not aware Spotify can only be accessed on your TV if you have a TiVo box.

You will soon be able to enjoy Spotify on your TV too, exclusively with Virgin Media: TiVo® Service. If you’re on Spotify Premium, press Home on your TiVo remote, go to Apps and Games and you’ll find Spotify. All your playlists and favourites will be there, and you can browse for and star music as normal. We think it’s the best way to listen to music through your TV, ever.
No App is there yet but it should not be far away.

I'm intrigued to see whether VM put apps such as Netflix and Lovefilm on TIVO as they'll be in direct competition with Movies OD , and before a certain person starts quoting , I know what Cindy Rose said but the proof will be in the pudding.

Like the idea off lovefilm would make our blu ray for streaming redundant except for playing blu rays.

If we do get Netflix, I hope they stream in 5.1 audio; lack of that from Lovefilm is a big minus point for me.

Not strictly true! As I type this reply on my iPad I am listening to Spotify on my tv and the sound through my surround sound system. All I have to do is stream Spotify through my Apple TV box using my iPad.;)

Ben is this true ?
Quote:

This has now been sorted.

There had been some confusion with the billing. Apparently, because we have two 1TB boxes already and had requested a third 500GB this where the extra charges came in. The £3 charge only applies per box if you have different size boxes. So, 3 1TB boxes would incur one £3 fee but a mixture of sizes causes an amount per size, therefore £6. At the time of order it seems that the £6.50 multiroom was being waved. At the time of order, the total cost should have been £114.46 or if I had gone for a 1TB box it would have been £111.46. However, I have saved on the install/activation cost anyway as a 1TB box for our son's room is a bit extreme.

Anyway, they have honoured their original quote of £111.46 so I am happy. Things like this happen, although they shouldn't, but VM always seem to get it right when they have made a mistake which is good.

The only thing they haven't done now is activate the 6 months free Spotify after upgrading to 100mb. I think I shall leave that for now!
http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/...re/td-p/830029

Also another Spotify blunder.

The way I used to do it was have my WHS connected to my amp and then use a remote desktop on my iPad to control it, don't need to any more.

Also another Spotify blunder.

If they had their install on the 4th of November, it's likely they placed the order before the Spotify offer was launched - therefore wouldn't have the offer on their account.

Also the bit about getting charged different amounts for different TiVo boxes is incorrect. The TiVo service cost applies to both size of boxes exactly the same.

We are able to push an app launch after the firmware update later this month, and before the change freeze. As we've said in our update announcement, the firmware update supports us to launch Red Button services as well as Spotify services. So we're working as hard as we can with our partners to get these great services out as soon as possible. Everything else will come in the new year.

just had the Tivo installed and have to say i think its brilliant.

Little tweeks maybe neeeded here and there but an absolutely superb piece of kit IMO.

It replaced a 10 year old? V box and i was currently using a sky+HD - which it makes look like something decrepit and badly dated.

the whole concept is just different class.

i was concerned by some of the criticisms but really take the plunge.

a clutch of missing HD channels? is that really sky's whip hand now?

A lot of Skys trump cards have been took away , remote record , HD epg , and as you say the HD gap is closing. Wait until the ipad app and multiroom arrive , I have to say I'm considering my options after my 12 months with Sky.

The main change with the guide seems to be past events. The channel names now appear on the RHS when in the past. The good news is that the catch up links now work properly - I've tried both BBC and ITV programs and they click right through to the correct show (not in their apps, within the TiVo framework, though they stream from their relevent players when played of course). The response time within the on-demand shows themselves is still very slow. You can press the index right button to jump 5 minutes at at time.

The current time is on the right all of the time (underneath the mini-screen).

If you mean the programme time, then that stays above the listings, with the date and channel name switching to the right when going backwards.

Nope, because it doesn't have a dynamic EPG. So they have no way of telling it that a programme has overrun, or even tell it of a late schedule change.

Yes, ex-Telewest (Crawley). I did see the ticket and it also appears on the status for my area.

As well as apps, Help and OD services are also down. I'm not too worried about that in the short term, but since my install on Saturday I have what is, essentially, a V+ with suggestions. Before I switched from V+ to Tivo, OD was working, so hopefully it'll be sorted soon.

These engineers must be the most incompitant fitters there is, if it don't work after inserting the 3 wires it is an outside fault.

Not really, if it's a network problem, then the installer can't do anything until that bits fixed. Networks will be given a ticket ref to action.

Could be anyone with TiVo on your cab, depends really. It could also be a Network IT issue just affecting your install.

Hopefully by torrow morning we may have Virgin TV ???

That should have been the first thing that happened, and should take less than 5 minutes. You really do need the installer to come back. Call them.

Doubt it, constant rebooting is usually a hardware fault

a hardware fault jb66? I thought all the problems with TiVo were firmware related ? (sorry for crossing forums i'm not stalking you, honest !)

Any individual STB could have a hardware fault - it's the nature of any manufacturing process, but it doesn't mean that every TiVo box does

spiderplant 09-11-2011 22:14

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

It's not constant rebooting, it's stuck in the software download. My money is on bad signals.

jb66 09-11-2011 22:22

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

I've had a fault where it was doing that, was a box swap, if it goes to stage 3 of 3 updating then the box has downloaded the firmware but can't install it

spiderplant 09-11-2011 22:52

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

Yeah, but this isn't getting to stage 3.

As jb66 has said, no luck. Back to flashing green light.

Call the TiVo faults on 151, you need the tech back if it's now failing at that point.

Just got off the phone to them, we are having a new box installed tomorrow between 16.00hrs and 19.00hrs.

Fingers crossed that the new one is okay.

Hello All

Live in Leatherhead Surrey and 15.2 soft loaded on Tivo this morning much snappier in all screens.
Never seen the clock as I scouted around.
Seems to have come much earlier than I have been reading on the forum.
Much better product now, I have tolerated its inadequacies from the start in the hope
of better performance been worth waiting.

Best

Make sure they check the signal level using their meter too. I'm still not convinced it's the box.

Interesting... didn't think the pilot trial finished until 12th?

They've added Hersham and Peteborough to the pilot areas between today and the 16th

Is this to test new additions/amendments to the 15.2 update? Seems strange to add two new areas out of the blue.

As far as I'm aware only change to the pilot software is the fix for the PBS EPG issue

So what is the point of the two new test areas? Is there something I'm missing?

Probably to make sure when the code drop is sent in one go (including the PBS issue fix) it all goes ok.

So...TiVo was installed today and although I've only had a short time to play the new menu system is gorgeous.

It feels really quick and yes there are a couple of issues such as lower res menus, but hopefully they'll be fixed.

One thing - why do some channels appear with bigger fonts than others? (in TV guide menu)

I think it depends on the length of the channel name, it tries to change the font size to fit more in.

Just had my Tivo installed today :-)
Took 30 minutes to crash so badly I had to switch it off to reboot [reset didn't work] :-(
At least the guides and menus are no longer blurry.....

When setting a series link is it necessary to always set it to record 1-3 minutes longer, to avoid missing the end of something?

The TiVo doesn't have a dynamic EPG so it is best to add padding to programmes where the ending is critical. Some BBC programmes have a tendency to start before scheduled time.

The TiVo is still the best PVR by miles! Enjoy!:)

Isn't automatic padding going to be added in the comming update?

There seems to be a few who have had issues with TIVO boxes failing at install , are they generally reliable ?

Are the 500gb and 1 TB exactly the same component wise ? My parents have a 500gb install at the end of this month.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

The terabytes were built ages ago, just sitting in the warehouse, 500gb are selling like mad so are a new batch. My opinion is that the newer batches aren't built as good as the old ones as TiVo faults have only really picked up over the last few weeks

Got update in Peterborough today and so pleased I have no more sound dropouts on Dolby digital anymore, don't know if this was an intended fix or not but sooo glad there gone

At least you get the box replaced free if it's at fault.

Now 5 hours into my Tivo experience, and the volume is cutting out when I change to a new channel. Have to go back and forth a couple of times to get it back.
Is this common?
