Very interesting and, although I only know you from our interactions in a virtual community, I can recognise quite a few areas in that assessment that seem to fit you. :)

Did Natalie get tested as well?

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

Natalie did indeed get tested - it was all part of out ministry training. But I'm not going to post hers unless I get permission first.

I value my life ;)

It's all part of Natalie and My training we're doing at the moment.

It's been interesting so far. Myers Briggs method apparently.

Glorious day up here in Glasgow. Well glorious from inside a warm house looking out the window over the city. Not sure how I'd feel being outside, it looks freezing!

Yes, it's his style of delivery that I dislike so much. It's for this same reason that I dislike Kevin Bridges too.

I actually once saw Gilbert talking normally and it was much better.

Just finished packing for a reason that isn't really something to look forward to, but I'm looking forward to seeing the people again and having a chance of using my favourite sun milk. I'm going to be losing the vast majority of my budget for the next 2 months though.

Had the BEST weekend ever.

Glorious surroundings, excellent food, weather, friends, family and the not insignificant presence of my bride turning up and saying 'I do'. :D

Now to get packed for honeymoon, get writing thank you cards and get some positive reviews up on trip advisor and other sites for the people who helped make it such a wonderful weekend.

What TV is it?

My Samsung 40" Smart TV has an app that can be downloaded and I can use the phone as a remote control for the TV, the best thing is that when you use the app to turn off the TV it closes the app

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

Finally got my central heating boiler replaced. Got a fairly good deal for the amount of work they needed to do as well. Unfortunately, I am not sure what the final cost will be as the engineer found that while all the visible water pipes were copper, a lot of the hidden ones were lead, so they've all had to be ripped out and replaced.

I've also gone for a combi boiler, rather than the gravity fed one I had before, so the bills should go down, and they've been able to remove both tanks in the loft, so I have a lot more space up there.

The downside is that because the engineer spent so long having to remove and replace the lead pipes, he was unable to wire up the control system, so I can't currently set any timers or the temperature. He said if we get too hot to either flick the off switch on the combi, or use the valves on the radiators.

Still, it's nice to be warm.

Sooo after one of THE most crappy days of my life I did have one moment of fun :)

Imagine a whole day of poking blood letting tests etc with loads of different doctors and nurses.

They all congregated with me in the treatment room - There's me up on the lift and the main foot doctor proclaims "It's time to put Mr Tarn down".....

After a couple of seconds of silence I popped out with "That's a bit harsh - I only came in with dodgy feet"

It took a couple more seconds but everyone in the room got it and cracked up :)

Small things - but it made my day I tell you :)

Our eldest was recently selected, nationally, to sit on the interviewing panel for a senior role within the charity he is a member of. He played an active role in assessing and selecting the new candidate for the post and the formal offer is now being prepared. It was great experience seeing the interview process from the other side of the desk which should stand him in good stead for the future. We're so proud of him!

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

I am responsible for a web site at work. This site relies on a seperate web service to get data.

One page of this due to the way it had to work generated a lot of calls (in excess of 100) to the service, which slowed the page load down to about 12-15 seconds. Not too bad, but too slow for my liking (and it caused a couple of complaints).

I did raise this with the man who maintained the web service (as for security, I have no access to the source code, so cannot change it). He said it was as fast as it could be. He left, and the first thing the new guy did was analyse what the page was doing, and wrote a new function absorbing as much of that functionality into the webservice as possible.

Using the new function, the page loads in between 1.9 and 2 seconds.

On the count down now, catching the 8am plane from Exeter to Tenerife tomorrow, will we sleep? I doubt it.

Happy Christmas to all my friends on CF, and a prosperous New Year to all! xxx

I just tried to peel an onion instead of a spud - that would have made my mash interesting to say the least - bloody eyes :)

Meat here gets cooked Christmas Eve, all that gets done on the day is the vegetables and roast potatoes.
