Stewart Downing?? Seriously? You look at that squad and you can really see how poor the current group of England players are.

I dont think its a bad squad. Some experienced players and some good young players

Re: Football Season 2011/12
It looks a poor squad. There are no outstanding talents in that squad.
Rooney can't play first two games, other strikers have had poor/average seasons, nothing special in midfield and John Terry is the best defender there so thats bad news too. Players like Gerrard, Carrol and Downing being included show how poor the competition is for places. |

Looks like Kenny Dalglish will no longer be Liverpool manager by the end of the day. Won't be surprising if true, wasted a lot of money that should have been enough to at least challenge the Champions League spaces, didn't conduct himself well in the press or over the racism claims.

I think it's also underestimated the damage the Suarez incident did, the owners stepped in after it got coverage in American sports news. A lot of people in the States (and frankly here, outside of Liverpool) couldn't believe the way it was handled. The t-shirts, the attacks on Evra (which remains the most pathetic aspect of the whole thing) and all the atmosphere around it.
I think that damaged his credibility in the eyes of the owners, they shouldn't be getting flack from the UK because their choice of manager can't handle it. |

They admit they are coming to grips with the sport and they do so from a distance but this gives them a fresh perspective on the club which is probably quite healthy. They view the money spent and the position achieved and have rightly concluded that it's not acceptable. They look at clubs that spent a lot less doing a lot better and it's not clear where the improvement is going to come from. That alongside having to deal with race issues in the US because of a lack of management from the UK has caused them to fire the manager. It's no coincidence that the director of communications and the director of football have also gone. |

Re: Football Season 2011/12
i view the Dalglish event in a similar way to the Mcleish sacking.
Mcleish was hired without support from the fans, purely on owners instinct. Dalglish was largely taken based on fan support, but never thought he was best man for the job. There is a balance, and i'm not sure it was done in both cases. Appease the fans by all means, but ultimately it is owners money, not the fans Now, Martinez seems to be wanted by both clubs. ---------- Post added at 17:56 ---------- Previous post was at 17:45 ---------- Dalglish says "I am disappointed with results in the league, but I would not have swapped the Carling Cup win for anything as I know how much it meant to our fans and the club to be back winning trophies" Do you agree denphone? i would swap the cup for third place, 2nd, 1st in premier league i'd swap for FA cup Maybe even 4th, if I got champions league place ---------- Post added at 17:58 ---------- Previous post was at 17:56 ---------- I'll go even further...if Liverpool played exciting football every week..I'd swap the cup. but..i am not a liverpool supporter..maybe now days they are happy with an occassional cup..and crap football :D |

Man city can buy another striker :D For next season (by the way, who will start that thread, and when?), maybe we can have Man city 1st, arsenal 2nd...and Liverpool 3rd. Ok ok, i was only kidding about liverpool, but..stranger things have happened :D |

With Kagawa, Arsenal have "apparently" had a bid accepted, but United are still favourites by a distance. Fergie has met with the player himself.
