Re: What have you just bought?

Nice, they've been £65 for a while now so worth that. Though their hot choc isn't worth it cost wise, after trying out a few substitutes we tend to stick with 'Callebaut Hot Chocolate with Dark Chocolate' 3rd of the price of HC - from Amazon.

Miele WCA030 washing machine.

Our old so far fairly reliable Zanussi has finally given up the ghost after 23 years. Our repair man said it's would be at least £200 to fix the current fault just on spares and that he would now recommend putting out to pasture especially as spares are getting harder to get. He also said only go for Miele as they will have spares for 20 years past last production but you probably don't need and stick with 7kg models.

Choices WCA030 and WEA025 - Miele site £699 for both models. John Lewis had the WEA025 for £669, Hughes the WCA030 for £629. Add £48 for install and removal of old machine (same for both vendors), delivered Thursday.

Main issue we can't fob off the "We can cover your washing machine for only £x per month" any more. Just telling them it was over 20 years old put them off.

We’ve had repair cover on all our appliances for years. They break down just about often enough to be worth it, though to be honest the biggest benefit is just being able to book a repair for any of them from one website without having to phone round looking for a local independent guy to come out.

Our Hotpoint dishwasher b0rked last week and at 14 years of age the repairer said it was as well to write it off. New one arrives this afternoon, supplied and fitted free of charge (and old one removed).

tweetiepooh 04-10-2021 14:21

Re: What have you just bought?

We have single point of call for our local repair man to cover the stuff that does break down. The expensive Mille's have 10 year service cover including 2 visits at year 4 and 8 to check it all out. But as our man says - why bother, Miele's likely don't need it.

A week for things to "break". Our solar panel inverter stopped working so we've ordered a replacement. It costs £950 including 10 year cover. If they come and it has restarted they'll service it for £120 as they can always use the inverter elsewhere.

Our current one is more "powerful" than our system needs apparently. It was a replacement as the one put in at first broke almost immediately. All fun.

Re: What have you just bought?

My first job back in 1958 was junior in a coal and gravel merchants office. Back then you could order a bag of coal dependent on grade for 4/11 (25p) per cwt or better grades for 5/11 or 6/ll and have it delivered for free. My wage then was £2.10/- per week (£2.50p) = £125 per YEAR! Didn't get paid for the 2 weeks holiday in July. I gave my Mum £2 for my keep and had 50p to myself, off which I had to pay my bus to and from work, and entry into the Palais de Dans on a Saturday night, the odd pair of stockings, which when they got a ladder I fixed with soap or nail varnish, and fare to and from work 6 days per week. The good old days? They were to me :):):)

I tried a Smarty Sim but the data speed in my area was abysmal. If you get decent speed they are good value.

Early Black Friday deal from Amazon - Echo Show 5 (2nd generation, Charcoal) + Blink Outdoor HD security camera (2-Camera System), for £94.99, reduced from £229.98.

We currently have a Ring camera connected to our phones/tablets/Echo Show, but the wifi connection isn’t very good with it (even though it’s only 10 feet away from Google Mesh device), so happy to try this out at the reduced price.

I've had this system for over a year now (2 sets of 2 cameras) and I find it very reliable with decent wifi coverage. As a bonus the batteries can last up to two years if you dial everything down. You've got them for a very good price indeed.

Hugh 09-11-2021 15:19

Re: What have you just bought?

Thanks - considering each camera was £89.99 before the deal, I was very happy (and I’ll save the clips locally to a USB stick, rather than to the manufacturer’s server (as I do at the moment, so save a monthly fee).

I paid a shed load more than that for mine. I got two only, in case they weren't any good but was so pleased I got another two...a bit stupid as I could have had the 5 camera kit for a lot cheaper overall
The only saving grace is I get my online storage for free. I think the cut off was July or August, after which you have to pay.
Very easy to set up, the base unit is titchy but extends the wifi coverage really well IMO.

I bought Soundpeats A1 Wireless Over-ear Headphones back in 2016, I was really impressed with the sound quality and the battery life. Had them for three years. I have a similar set now, MPOW H7, they're even better and still going strong.

The wireless in-ear set I've just bought for when I'm out and about are the T12's these were £17.99 off Amazon, the quality of sound is amazing and what's more impressive is the quality of sound on phone calls. I was out the other day and it was raining, windy and there was plenty of traffic passing by. I got a call, during the conversation I asked if they could hear me ok, they said yeah loud and clear, when I told them where I was and what the weather and traffic was like, they couldn't believe it, they said it sounds like you're indoors, they didn't hear any of the weather or traffic, just my very sexy and silky smooth voice. :naughty:

Well impressed!

I have an iPhone and AirPods are, by far, the best I’ve tried. I use them all the time but always gave up with the cheap ones.

About 4 years ago I bought a set of Bose QC35s, I paid £300. In the summer, I had to replace the ear padding.

But they are great, with noise-cancelling.

Oh Nooooooo my secrets out!!!!!!!!!! Seriously, I know my history with shoes is well known but SnoopZ did you have to let everyone know about my weakness for those of the more errrrr kinky variety.

 Oh Carth ...well what can I say. My blushing should tell you that I may have only bought the one pair at weekend but I have my eyes set on another pair. Just waiting to break the news to John which I will do when he stops growling about the cost of the first pair. He loves me really ... honest. :D

Extremely impressed with these, the sound quality and volume is fantastic for my dodgy ears, just got to get used to putting them in properly as I've not used any before and see how long the battery lasts before a charge is needed.

New PC monitor, the old one just died this morning.

I was restricted by size and the need for a VGA socket.

Every place I tried was out of stock until I found the last remaining one in Argos. Their site wouldn't let me click-and-collect, so I crossed the city through insane traffic, to buy it.

Just treated myself to a new watch for knocking about in.

Casio for £30 will do the job, I have more expensive Casio GShock and Ediface and like the range.
