That TBB is pretty much similar to mine. I really don't know what is going on with VM. My other BT circuit TBB is fine.

Just had this happen overnight. No config change, just a lengthy outage.

I went from 16 to 24 downstreams last night in CB24, i guess it was only locked onto a few channels between 2am and 4am looking at the graph.

Something odd happened early this morning:

https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2017/04/16.png

My IP number hasn't changed but a small packet loss seems to have stopped and the latency improved a bit.

Kushan 11-04-2017 11:33

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

I wonder if the improved latency is a side-effect of things being knocked off the network.

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

Had a small outage earlier. Rang 150, automated message with "We are improving our network in your area". Oh good, perhaps being moved to a new CMTS. Anyway, connection has come back up but there's been no changes as far as I can tell. Oddly, there is two different CMTS MAC's in the network log. One a Cisco and the other a RiverDelta, which is the one that I think I'm still on. Not sure what's going on there.

No outage problems here in Coventry. I guess the problem was local or regional.

I did have a problem with low down speeds yesterday, but no outages. I rang CS and they rerouted my connection, which inevitably changed my IP address.

The busy section in the graph is me doing some overnight torrenting.

Had a "hump" in the graph starting around 8pm last night and tonight. Anyone else getting it? Peering issues again?

Edit: Seeing it on another graph monitoring a connection that's on Telf13 (I'm on Telf14). Guess it's just a peering issue.

I do get myself worked up over silly thing and I want to punch the wall atm because I can't stand it when people do stupid ****ing stuff that doesn't make sense. I just went to have a look at my bqm only to find that the login page has changed and my saved username and password are no longer there. I can't remember what my username is (and you can't use your email address) because I only sign in once or twice a year which is why it was saved and there is no "forgot username" option. If you try signing up or anything else it just says email address is already in use and account is active, please login.
I might just be being a complete spoon and the whole thing is ****ed up and it is like they don't want you to be able to use the site. All I wanted to do is see if I had a hump as well and now I am ready to explode.

The "forgot your password" option allows you to enter either your username or email, then reset from there.

it resets your password by entering sending you an email but it provides no indication of what the username for the account is. I also thought the lack of contact info on the site was ****. Normally you have a help/faq/contact us section but there is nothing. Luckily there was a paragraph at the bottom of the password reset email saying "if you think you have received this in error please click here". I fired off an email having a polite moan and there were very good and emailed me back this afternoon with my username and admitted that it is an issue which they are in the process of fixing.

Anyways, here is my hump. I am very curious to know what would cause a national blip like that. (edit: the code is also screwed up for the links and it is quicker for me to take a flipping screen dump and upload it myself)

mine is mid-progress. I am not too worried about it to be fair. If it wasn't for you buys discussing it on here I wouldn't have even noticed. I do my fair share of gaming and downloading and everything has been normal the last couple of days for me. I am amazed that VM haven't picked up on this though with the network monitoring tools; we are talking about the latency doubling across the entire network for 4 hours.

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

http://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php...broadband.html

Quote:

A Virgin Media Spokesperson told ISPreview.co.uk:

“A very small number of Virgin Media customers (less than 1%) may have noticed a deviation in their expected connection performance when using some tools and websites

This is caused by a link failure resulting in the loss of around 0.98% of Virgin Media’s broadband capacity. This will affect these customers at peak times (after 6pm).

Virgin Media is working hard to restore the capacity as quickly as possible. We apologise to the small number of customers affected for any inconvenience.”
So apparently, everyone who has noticed the hump here and on other sites are in the less than 1%. Plus losing 0.98% of capacity is enough to cause at least a doubling of the minimum latency.

For anyone else wondering, your existing graphs are listed under "My Profile" (Top right after logging in). Confused me as well.

I don't like the new website design.

You think you've got it bad, this has been mine for months and I'm only on 20 channels:

This is actually the best it's been compared to the weekend, as well.

I'm guessing by the looks of things, you're dealing with both the latency issue of the hub 3, combined with some utilisation? Doesn't look healthy I have to agree.

I'm not sure it is utilisation, I get pretty good speeds all the time. There's also no dip in the graph, not even at 4am (The spikes above are due to my media server pulling in content that tends to release around 4am), it's pretty consistent 24/7. I would have expected some reprieve outisde prime hours.

It look horrendous, but doesn't actually affect my usage much - I play games with General Maximus every week and my ingame pings are fantastic, I don't get any lag spikes or anything like that.

Only 20 channels here ;

https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2017/06/12.png

This has always been consistant (Only been monitoring for a few months, after I got my SH3 and switched to Gamer 200).

However, despite it not looking great, I dont [knowingly] suffer any speed issues.

The spike btw is my daily backups to cloud storage.

The response on the forum a couple of months ago left me speechless...

Quote:

I've just had a long chat with a colleague regarding the complaint, I've been told that this is completely out of our hands, and if I'm being honest, I shouldn't really be as involved as I already am as when a complaint is raised, it's owned by the person who responds and no one else. I'm really sorry I can't help further with this, I know your situation is difficult and I really wish there was more I could do to help, but it's really out of my hands and if you wish to pursue the complaint further, you'd have to follow the advice and recommendations from the reply you had.

I would go to arbitration and ask them how they do not have the ability to diagnose and repair faults on their own network that they manage.

Keep getting brief drop outs for the last couple of days. Got "RCS Partial Service" in the network log but it doesn't show for each drop out, so not sure why it's doing it.

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

Drop outs seem to be getting a bit more frequent. Bit annoying that the network log doesn't seem to update. Only thing I can see is that the upstream channels change but that maybe just down to what the hub locks on to at the time.

Edit: Graph doesn't seem to be updating unless you click on it. Had quite a few drops after 4pm.

According to live chat, there is an intermittent fault that'll be sorted sometime between now and the 26th. Nothing showing on the service status so not sure how accurate that is.

Seems to be fixed now. Got a text saying they had fixed the network problem. They've also given a £6 credit for loss of service. Didn't ask for it so nice of them to do so. Quite happy with the customer service tbh. Would be nice if the fault appeared on the service status checker. Guess there must be a reason why it didn't?

Swapped back to the SH2ac, mainly out of curiosity to see whether the latency spikes on the Hub 3 actually affect anything. I've never really noticed any issues with the Hub 3 so I'm quite surprised that web pages load noticeably quicker with the 2ac. Was extremely easy to do as well via live chat. I'll keep the 2ac connected until the Hub 3 gets a firmware fix.

My Sky connection, about 5 years on, is as stable as the day I had it installed. Remember a few here saying I would get congestion and similar horror type issues as I had on Virgin Media. Didn't happen :)

Kushan 15-08-2017 16:23

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

Sky have been much better at proactively tackling congestion. Virgin seems to go through phases where it gets really bad, then there's a big push to clean it up, then it gets bad again.

Yes it obviously has issues but it doesn't seem to noticeably affect things, at least for me anyway. Having said the 2ac loads web pages quicker, there isn't actually much of a difference using the Hub 3. One thing that the Hub 3 does do better in is bufferbloat, if the dslreports speed test is accurate. I'd consistently get a C with the 2ac, I consistently get an A with the Hub 3. Same Asus router used with both.

I need to do a little more testing, but initial results since going from 8 to 20 downstream channels does suggest increased latency. I've only managed to do some remote testing so far, but will do a little more in a few days time.

I get this quite a lot, though it doesn't seem to have any adverse effect on my connection.

The more annoying, and more recent issue, is one of my connection dropping to 50MB max until I reboot.

Been getting brief connection drops for the last couple mornings (early hours). Each time the latency has reduced, which is nice. Guessing it must be some form of maintenance? Not had any changes to the number of downstream channels. Upstream is still 2x 16QAM, although the bonded pair do change.

Is it normal for SNR to drop slightly along with power levels, with the addition of more channels? SNR has dropped to between 36-38dB, I'm sure it was reading 38-40dB this morning. Power levels were close to 0, now between -3 to +2dBmV. Still in spec, just curious.

It doesn't need anytime to stabilise on VM, i wouldnt worry about the yellow though, it makes no difference to my internet and it is normal with the HUB3.

The big green bit was overutilisation of a link on the VM network. That would cause degraded speeds and poor latency and jitter.

No issues at all with my gaming, i play FPS on PS4, like others here i completely ignore the yellow on the graph, i get full download speed and i think my ping(19ms) is normal for my VM connection.

I'm not saying people are not having issues with the Hub3 but for my own connection i am currently happy with it.
