Damn :( - no I said the raffle stopped me from pre-registering.

I was going to pre-register but the raffle happened so I decided to do that.

-----------------------------

Great now I have to wait longer and then pay £199 for the box £40 install and £3 a month.

TAXI....

--------------------------------------

Thanks for registering to be in the running to get one of 1000 TiVo boxes, to enjoy on us for a year.

As much as we’d have loved you to win one, sadly you weren’t successful in securing a free TiVo box in our prize draw.

If you’d like to upgrade to our supercharged TV service, just sit tight. We're launching in April so we’ll be in touch in the coming weeks with an exclusive offer, just for our customers.

So what does that mean...

So - got the email - can't say I'm happy that we're going to be charged the £40 installation fee.

Considering waiting until the Autumn - especially as I'm a fan of Wimbledon (tennis!) and use the BBC red button facilities to choose which match to watch. From what I understand, the red button isn't yet up and running on the TIVO and may not be until September.

As I wish to wait until a service that I use is activated on the Tivo, will I still be able to get the offer price? I won't be happy if I have to pay £239 when I have chosen to wait until I can have a box that includes the functions I use.

Have been watching this thread with interest for many weeks now and, whilst I understand the frustration of many, and agree that Virgin haven't got it right with the way they dealt with its release, it is only a piece of gadgetry.........:erm:

Even though, by taking up their offer immediately, I would be losing a service I currently have (and use)? That doesn't make any sense.

If that's the case, then I won't have Tivo - at least not until it comes down in price - even if that's 2012/13

I'm not that desperate. V+ isn't that much of a problem......

I got the "Dear Dean" email too, what a an absolute Joke and yet another shambles by VM.

I will NOT be paying the best part of £200 when I have already paid for boxes I do not own. I should get the amount I've previously paid for 2 V+ boxes taken off that figure IMO.

When my contract is up in May they can offer me TiVo at a better price or I move to Sky for my tv and have a 1TB box that I own and can sell on when my contract expires.

Big fail IMO VM, £150 for XL customers and £100 for VIP's with no install would be far fairer and would see a bigger take up.

Disappointed with this shoddy offer from Virgin.

No the article just says a lower spec box will be available soon, but the 1TB TiVo is still our flagship device.

Just picked a copy up in the office.

Re: TiVo

I can't believe the £40 install charge, the worst I was expecting was £149 inc.

VM have dropped the ball unfortunately, they could have been aggressive with the pricing and sat back to watch TiVo fly off the shelves. Instead we get £190. :(

TheDon 31-03-2011 18:26

Not that I'd have taken this "offer" anyway, completely ridiculous to pay install as well as a £150 fee for a box you don't own.

Why do you say that? A Sky 1TB HD nox is £249 and Tivo has way more functionality. I don't understand your logic.

Why should you get money off. With VM your stb is covered for replacements if it ever breaks down, whereas after a year with Sky they would charge you for the visit and the cost of the repair or new STB.

The even funnier thing is ,some on here think Sky customers will switch in there droves because of TIVO at the price of 239 and 3.00 a month.

And that price is much more sensible in my eyes. Sky's box has also been out longer so they are in the position to cut the price to counter the TiVo launch. Sky+HD 1TB box for £99 with free install would throw the cat amongst the pigeons. :)

Somehow I rather doubt this will be on offer as they will be keeping a sharp eye on such bad practice, and any agent flouting the rules will be asked to explain why, and saying I saved a customer may not be reason enough with this rollout.

I called Sky for a quote (nothing to do with the TiVo expense, more with the terrible CS I had this last month) and Sky essentially mislead you into believing they are cheaper than Virgin.

I asked for the comparable package to V+HD, XL TV, XL phone, L bb and they came up with £58.50 per month. That's not a lot more than I pay with VM, but it's certainly not cheaper.

Given that I have to lose on demand functionality too, and pay £250 for 1.5TB hard disk (WTF?!?) they are having a laugh.

So to those of you thinking of jumping ship to Sky just because this new product is too expensive... the grass isn't greener as far as I can see. Looks like I'll be staying red (although VM CS are making me SEE RED!)

Copy of an e-mail sent to Neil Beckett this afternoon:

Dear Sir

Being a VIP50 customer, and having pre-registered my interest in the Tivo box,
I was disappointed when I received todays e-mail.

The promise of being able to order be the end of March was not kept.

I think most people were happy to pay the £149.00 for the box plus the additional
£3.00 per month subscription, but to add another £40.00 installation is a bridge too far.

Nor have we received the "new" deal for VIP as promised by Cindy Rose some time ago.

To add salt to the wounds - all the e-mails were addressed to some poor guy called Dean!

I would be grateful for your comments.

Many thanks

I will post any reply I get

He will probably reply....

Dear Dean.... :D:D:D

Excellent! Short and to the point but not rude. I will be very keen to hear what reply you get.

My email, which I received this afternoon, was also addressed to Dean, whoever he is :D

It didn't however mention anything about paying £40 installation fee, just said £149.00 and an extra £3 a month

I've emailed Neil Beckett in the past and I have to say he was very good and actually phoned me personally and made sure the problem I had was addressed the dame day. Seems to me to be a really nice guy ;)

It says in the small print at the bottom about a £40 installation charge doesn't it?

Read the small print for the £40 installation fee.it is actually quite large to be fair.

You are right, okay on my way to spec savers :D

I really don't mind to be honest, they aren't forcing us to have the Tivo box so I don't know why people moan so much.

Re: TiVo

Can I just something as i have been thinking ( Before anyone says it I know its a first for me ).
But just to say that you have the XL pack and not had the HD activated, It is included in the price of the TIVO ( As one staff member posted on this thread before ) so in some respects it could be looking as a good deal for some customers. As if this was not the case they would be charged £149+£49+£40 = £238 and then £3pm.

Just my thoughts?

Having had a whiz through the 10 odd pages since my last post I've only counted 2/3 potential orders and a lot of "nos" and unique nos as well (as well as those people saying no numerous times of course). In the interests of balance are there any other "yes"es out there, step out of the shadows and show yourselves. :D

Re: TiVo

This is really annoying. I honestly feel that VM had a potential game changer on their hands here.

I remember before the iPad was announced people were saying it would be priced somewhere between £800 & £1000. When did announce the price of £429 everybody was pleasantly surprised. Fast forward 8 months and they'd sold 15 million units!!

Would they have sold even half that if it was released with a price with-in peoples expectations (£800+)? I very much doubt it.

The moral of this story is if you want your product to fly off the shelf & people to talk about it, then for the love of god make sure that it's for the right reasons ala Apple.

Re: TiVo

I am also on VIP50 with two V+ boxes that i had to pay for plus installation costs.
I am very dissapointed with having to pay another installation cost , i expected there to be a special VIP offer of free install but nothing has been heard. As usual the VIP package started out as a good deal a couple of years ago but this is another kick in the teeth for VIP customers.
So i will stick with my V+ boxes for the time being.
I want to write an email to Neil Berkett (or should that be DEAN Berkett) but cant find his email address , does anyone have it please?

I can just picture a young inexperienced temp was dragged in to do the letters on mailmerge, maybe he was called Dean!

They are certainly in the Ratner school of marketing.

Worse things could happen I suppose, it's still funny though.:)

I've had the dear dean email too... I'll tell you what, i dont want TiVo bad enough to pay £150 activasion, £40 install and an extra £3 a month subs, they can kiss my hairy ... - I'll probably have a go at increasing the storage space of my lovely V+ to 1tb for about £35 instead.

Targeted Ads possibly ?

Couldn't the 3.00 TIVO fee be offset from the obvious targeted ads that will arrive at some point.

I'm a "yes". TBH I had steeled myself for it to be the price that has been published in today's email for a long time. I was at the Ideal Home Show the other week and the guy on the TiVo demo told me these prices then as well.

I'm not getting it till June when they bring out the £49 box with a smaller hard drive.

DaMac 31-03-2011 20:19

Re: TiVo

It's all very niche at that price though, bit of basic buisness for you, at £200 maybe 2% of virgin customers would have it installed, at £100 probably 20%, iam aware that these units are quite costly to produce but if you have units lying around then you are loosing money. Pile em high and sell em cheap.

It's really 189 + 36 yearly TIVO fee as V+ XL customers currently pay no monthly fee for V+

I could also choose to sell my Sky box like I did with my old HD box.

I just think the install charge is taking the biscuit and I hope most don't give into this shabby offering from Virgin.

I'm hoping for a far better offer as I'm a VIP 50 customer and supposedly one of their best customers!

Spot on, I am pleased to see there's someone else around with a grasp of economics after my post on the forgone revenue from all of the give aways a few weeks ago. I presume few people here understand the phrase "price elasticity of demand"? ( For those that want to read-up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Price_elasticity_of_demand ).

Right we're up to five positives now, anyone else? Soon there might be more yes-es from real live paying customers than those VM staff on the thread with TiVos on heavy discount. :D

Yep, me too. It's a fair deal considering we're early adopters. It'll be cheaper eventually, or there'll be cheaper options in future.

And I'm also happy with the way it was announced. I'm eager but not obsessed with getting it yesterday, so waiting 3-4 months after first announcement is fine.

Yes, there are a few VM staff on here who just say, 'take it or leave it', which is a comletely pointess and arrogant response in my view.

But DF isn't one of those people. He's gone out of his way to keep us as up to date as possible. But he had to stay within the limits of what he knew and what he was allowed to disclose becose of compaany sensitive information. He should be thanked, not critiicised in my view.

He didn't claim to know the actual offer, and it is better than the price new customers will pay; not as good as we all wanted and extreemly annnoying that we have to pay install when some didn't,, but still better.
