I was using a halogen table lamp right next to the mouse, when I turned it off the CAD package in focus went wild with lots of "dings" through the speakers so I re-booted the PC but it would stop with a "Windows protection violation, you must re-start your computer" message, wouldn't even start in safe mode.

I finally unplugged the (PS2) mouse and just left my wireless mouse and keyboard in the USB and it started up OK. Guess the lamp must have put a bolt up the PS2 mouse port.

I'm happy it's working OK now. :) Won't do that again.

Actually had a few PS2 mice do that..

I've got my broadband back and no more pesky pixi's on my TV screen. https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2012/10/17.gif

What were the odds on having a bad internal cable run and the Superhub being faulty. Well done Steve and thank you for sorting it out. :D

Shub has a reputation to live down to.:erm: I run mine in modem mode as I already have a decent router with wireless.

Glad you're all fixed up again. None or limited net access feels like a limb's been cut off.

:D I never realised how much I used the internet until this last weekend. I really must try to curb my reliance on it to run my life. Having to go into my Bank on a Saturday morning is not something I want to do again any time soon and phoning around for insurance quotes is pants.

Not had the Shub long and until Friday I had been pleased with it. Coming from 10Mb getting 45/49Mb via WiFi was good and I had no issues with signal reception anywhere in the house (guess not having thick internal walls helps :D ) Before having it installed, and having read so many negative comments about the Shub on here, I was quite resigned to having to put it in Modem mode but having it go FURBAR after only a couple of weeks and apparently take the TiVo with it was a blow I didn't expect.

Hopefully it seems to be all sorted now thanks to a VM engineer who was prepared to try a number of solutions rather than leave me with a less than decent service.

Add .... After the engineer left I did a quick test using a USB cable and got over 60Mb which cheered me up no end. :)

Hi friends

just returned from Las Vegas on Monday. We had a good holiday, weather roasting. Hotel good. But I must say the Country Music was not my cup of tea. It was modern country & just a loud noise. Back to Texas or Nashville next time,

Strangely the last eye sight test I had the optician said that my script had really changed & spent ages "creating " a new one. At the end I said I could see better with the glasses I had on ! He put my script into the eye tester thingy & I could see nothing! So went ahead with the new ones ( £300 +) went back the next week tried them on & it was like looking at fog. Upshot was saw different optician he agreed that I did not need "new" ones - no idea what the other guy was doing weird or what:dozey:

Excellent news. Having my cataract out was unpleasant but made a massive difference to my eyesight, it was like going from standard to hi-def TV.

The veil will be lifted Maggie, great news.

My happy thought; spent an afternoon in St. Augustine. The oldest continually inhabited European established city in mainland USA. Never heard of it, tourism sites seem to push Jamestown etc. The Castillo de San Marcos situated there is the oldest stone fort in the USA.

510 mile drive to Key Lime Inn in Key West tomorrow...

All the new members of the local ministry team (Who also just got re-mandated) at the service this morning got a nice cross from the vicar. Nice :)

Youngest has been sharing pics of his holiday (all 618 0f them !)with his SO, however - they had a great time away.

It's great to see 2 gorgeous, loving, fun people having such a great time. He brings her out of her shell.
Oh and then there were the pics of 'her cat' and 'her puppy' and their London weekend :D (her brother, the pup again, the cat again ... you know how it goes :D !)

Good for you for being so organised :)

I'm waiting until Divali, Bonfire Night and other notable, celebrations have passed and then I'll throw myself into the 'joyous, sharing of the passing of deepest midwidwinter' celebrations. :D

I've decided and told my family that I won't be bothering with presents for them this year. Over the last few years, I've bought stuff that either gets used once then dumped or broken within 12 hours of them opening it. So this year I thought I would make a £20 donation to charity for them each instead.

We will not be here for Christmas and New Year (36th wedding anniversary ) as we are spending them in Tenerife (24days) with Sis-in-law. :)

I completely understand your sentiments Mark. I've done a 'half way house' thing in the past for family members and colleagues, and subscribed to an animal-focussed charity on their behalf - something like WWF for example. They get a cuddly toy, newsletters and I foot the bill.

On a similar note Mark, workmates decided to stop the endless stream of cards at Xmas and put up a theme-based card to everyone. The not-spent money went to charity.

I'm wondering - if I lost my address book exactly how many friends and associates would receive a card!

I was just sitting here surfing earlier when I heard a thud on the lounge window right next to me which made me jump. I immediately thought it might have been a bird but it was only after a few minutes looking down into the garden below that I spotted a tiny green bird lying on the ground looking very still and very dead. Despite my prediction of a broken neck and being the big soft lad he is, Osem Jnr. went to see if he could do anything. On touching the bird he found it was still warm with its eyes closed and actually still clinging to the grass on which it landed. He gently picked it up and put it out of harm's way nearby then quickly left it alone. It was obviously stunned as it just stood there for a good 10 mins totally still until he then heard a brief tweet and it was gone in a flash. It was such a cute little thing, a Goldcrest, even smaller than a Wren and Europe's smallest bird IIRC. There's a picture here for anyone who's interested.

A happy end to just one of the infinite number of life and death events going on around us all the time which we rarely ever notice. :)

I bet the good feeling Osem Jnr, felt when the small bird took off will stay in his heart for a long time. You have brought up a caring young man there Osem. :tu:

Sounds a good idea, might look into that. Although my first thought was a charity like Macmillan, which is dear to my heart considering my grandmother.

I'm a meanie when it comes to cards, I buy a generic pack of cards with no 'mum, sister' etc on the front. Saves money. Although my mum and grandmother have an agreement where they use the same Christmas card for 2 years then buy a new one.
