How are they? Like SKY BT are investing in content VM seem to like to just leech of SKY and BT for content, although VM seemingly got a good deal in the sale of their channels they really should of kept them as now they would have a strong bargaining chip, VM are getting left behind for content and do not seem to want to invest in it, there is loads of stuff that hasn't been picked up that VM could go for but they won't, they will wait until someone else gets the rights and then try to leech of them.
VM should just drop tv and stick to their strongest product broadband which they are investing in.
If VM don't want to pay the going rate then tough cheese they won't get the content.

l think you will find that Virgin will try to get us as much content as they can but when other companies start asking premium prices for mostly average content then they are right not to pay over the odds for the content even if it mean not getting it as customers are already paying over the odds for their TV subscriptions and will certainly not accept another fiver being added on to their bills that's for sure.

VM remind me of my football team Wolves make a offer they know will never get accepted then say "we did try but they weren't willing to sell." :p:

Bar some BBC Channels and Channel 4 then yes.

Channel 5 do not broadcast in Ireland.

I doubt there would be any need to fuss over channel numbers.
After all ROI will have RTE1 on 101 and UK will have BBC1 on 101.
The kit is different- TiVo v Horizon.

I was talking yesterday about thing like MTV.

MTV is on Virgin Channel 134 but on UPC Ireland it on Channel 701.

When NTL took over Telewest the new NTLTelewest took the Telewest Channel lineup as Sky Sports 4 was way up on NTL Channel 930 (I think) but Telewest has it on Channel 516.

When VM decided to sell their channels and rely on bought in content, many people were concerned.

In the USA, that would have proved to be a wise decision as all the TV networks are now starting to provide online access independent of a cable subscription.

In the UK, with BT acquiring AMC, we are seeing the opposite; a TV network tied into a specific TV provider.

But at least, the 'usual villain' associated with these things (Sky) is doing things right by providing independent access via Now TV. BT should do the same with AMC.

I feel we will not see any more new channels launch this year due to Virgin Media are busy working on the UPC Ireland side of the network.

Bar Lifetime HD we feel the following UPC Ireland will soon launch in all areas of Virgin Media:

-History HD
-CI HD
(With Lifetime HD launching in all areas)
-MTV Classic
-Disney Channel HD

We think Virgin Media will drop:
-Fashion TV
-EWTN

We feel that UCB Ireland will only be in Virgin Media Ireland areas.

I suppose we can look forward to mega-hits such as 'Britain's Dirtiest Toilets' and 'Bruce Forsythe - My Secret Life As A Spy'.

Yes if VM want to compete with Sky and BT they need to play big. To be fair on BT I have been impressed on how far they have pushed into TV in such a short time, not just on the Sport side but the recent AMC deal as well.

Channels like Atlantic and AMC may show plenty of poor "fill-in" material, but they just need a few "star" series to make an effect. I am not a Game of Thrones fan but it is very popular. And for those zombie addicts (like me), Fear of the Walking Dead (even with mixed reviews in the USA) is a key attraction for AMC.

VM need to find routes into popular material or customers will just find other routes, like Now TV as you mention.
