Noticed that the VIP Collection is not being advertised in their Collections. The booklet is 18 pages long, and the VIP Collection is not mentioned anywhere at all.

Are the days of the VIP Collection numbered?

Got the latest Virgin Media mailshot today. Again no VIP package in the booklet at all.

In the new booklet they are pushing the Premier Collection and the Essential Family Collection. Interestingly there's yet another new package. It's bascially the Premier Collection but instead of 60mb broadband and talk weekends the new package has 120mb broadband with talk unlimited for £67.50 per month plus £15.99 line rental.

What's happening to VIP? Are Virgin planning to phase it out?

Interesting news about small world cable. Weren't they taking a hit on Sky Sports when Virgin readily passed the increases on? I guess their customers might end up with the odd rise, but also presumably now get TiVo etc. Shame, I liked their owner, very open with his customers.

Smallworld retail the Sky Sports Sports pack for £22 (same as Sky). Virgin charge an outrageous £27.25.

Only £16 for SKY Sports 1 & 2 on Smallworld. That would suit me perfectly in terms of the sports I watch.

That price is for Sky Sports 1 or 2, still a quid cheaper than VM though!

Talk Talk extend Sky deal but without Atlantic

However Sky is not sharing its two of its top American series, Game of Thrones and Girls. Sky Atlantic, the channel on which premium American series are screened, will continue to be reserved for Sky's own customers.

TalkTalk is now offering Sky Sports on a pay-per-day basis, ie Now TV's sports offering. Perhaps Virgin will do something similar as well?

£9.99 a day ain't cheap in my opinion.

If it were cheap, everyone would subscribe to Now TV rather than Sky Sports and a base TV service. The service has to tread the line between competing with Sky Sports and being tempting to one-off viewers who may just want to see a few events a year. Rather than pursuing illegal services, such viewers can now see an event or match reliably for a tenner.

They may well do so. It would not entice me though, if someone was to watch just three days of sport over a one month period I.E. 3 days of a golf tournament, 3 days of a test match, 3 Super Sundays or 3 ODI's, 3 rugby matches, some tennis or darts or if they choose any 3 individual matches of the many different sports available they would be paying £29.97.

The basic sports package is £27.25 on VM, so people may as well take the entire (over-priced) sports package, and enjoy the vast amounts of sports available.

Sky really know how to make easy money off of people with their sports offering.

What would be interesting would be a move towards having a Now TV app on Tivo as an alternative to the existing wholesaling/subscription model.
