By not having his arm raised? Any defender knows he's risking it when making a block flailing his arms around.

Agreed. I thought the same for the caldwell penalty yesterday (at least i think it was caldwell). Jumping up with hands in the air is stupid for a defender

Chelsea were 4 points behind 1st when Rafa Benitez took charge. Now they are 19 points off.

big fixtures coming up for Arsenal. Tottenham (A - PL), Everton (H - PL), Bayern (A- CL), Swansea (A - PL)

I think the Everton fixture will get moved if they progress in the FA Cup.

Yeah but we didn't need the 4th goal. If Dyer had taken it and scored he'd go down in history as one of the very few players to have scored a hat-trick at Wembley.

Quite enjoying our revival, not sure about the defence though, Steven Taylor remains the last Englishman in the first 11 despite the fact there is someone better on the bench, Swansea up next, they'll have a buzz around them after the LC win but with Ben Arfa set to make his return I am confident we'll get something from it.

We travel to Russia soon in the Europa to face Anzhi, win there and who knows what's possible.

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

Interestingly the figures suggest that 'all that money' Wenger has might not be there. The money made selling players once again equals or exceeds the players brought. Every year there seems to be a balance between the two and we often have sold before we've brought, remember Mata falling though because we were waiting for the FÃ*bregas deal to be done? If we hadn't sold players last year and simply brought the players we did anyway (all of whom would have been needed anyway) then Arsenal would have lost money this year. In reality there seems to be under £30 million to spend on both transfers and new contracts before player sales. Anything else means using up the cash reserves....

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

twitter feed,

Quote:

Arsenal Group profit before tax was GBP17.8 million

Profit on sale of player registrations amounted to GBP42.5 million

Turnover from football fell to £106.1 million from £113.5 million as a consequence of there being four fewer home fixtures.

Arsenal cash reserves of £123.3 million.

Arsenal overall after tax profit for the 6 months is £14.9m

https://twitter.com/JamieDalton82
Quote:

Arsenal post a £5m profit from football side of club before depreciation and player trading

Property revenues were boosted to GBP32.3 million by the sale of the market housing site at Queensland Road

Cash not clear YET but showing cash reserves of GBP123.3 million (which is post cash used as cash cover on debt)

If you strip out the 4 games less than season before club posts a £4m increase in football turnover.

So the 5 year plan, has been to sit still, collect bonuses and wait to renew EMirates and Shirt and pat yourselves on the back

Looks like Arsenal has paid in cash for players in summer - Podolski, Santi, as it seems to have used a large chunk of cash up forcasted...

Showing that £40m odd used for new players in summer and extensions. Leaves £120m vash in bank, with useable cash at £99m

Again Emirates deal a little smoke and mirrors, ''up to £150m'' Wonder how much is guarenteed, and how much is dependent on ECL bonuses etc

Arsenal owed £31.5m by other clubs for players sold

Cash reserves definately used for player purchases, accounts show Arsenal owe £13m on player purchases.

Show how ridiculous is was that it allowed MUFC to pay for RVP over staged payments.

Arsenal confirms summer Asian tour is indeed 3 games

Matchday revenue down, less corporates, and commercial revenue down as well.

The Club has recently submitted a planning application to Islington Council to stage a further three concerts at Emirates Stadium.

The Clubcurrently has planning consent to hold 3 a year and has now requested permission to hold up to six concerts each summer from 2014.

Arsenal £155m wage bill - MUFC £162m wage bill - Arsene "we have a socialist wage structure" proves rewarding of poor players

As @Brett_leverton points out these accounts not showing front loaded Emirates payment of circa £30m which is either banked or close to be.

https://twitter.com/DarrenArsenal1
Quote:

Arsenal have chosen to merge (hide) wage costs with other football costs this time out. So hard to fully analyse how the socialism is going

But it appears that the annual wage bill at #Arsenal will be getting very close to £150m

Quote:

#AFC Interims (6 months to 30 November 2012) profit before tax £17.8m (2011 £49.5m), profit after tax £14.9m (2011 £38.0m).

#AFC Interims profit before tax of £17.8m (2011 £49.5m) split: football £15.6m (2011 £48.9m) and property development £2.2m (2011 £0.6m).

Main reason for £34m fall in #AFC football profit is lower profit on player sales £43m (2011 £63m) & match day revenue £38m (2011 £46m).

#AFC Interims player sales £43m mainly RVP and Song, while previous year £63m included Fabregas, Nasri and Clichy.

#AFC Interims results: excluding property profit £2m and profit from player sales £43m, AFC actually made a loss of £27m before tax.

#AFC Interims revenue £138.4m (2011 £116.7m) split between football £106.1m (2011 £113.5m) & property £32.3m (2011 £3.2m).

#AFC Interims revenue: match day £37.8m (11 £46.0m), broadcasting £40.1m (11 £40.6m), commercial £27.7m (11 £26.6m), loans £0.6m (11 £0.4m).

#AFC Interims results: cash balances still high £123m. Lower than May (£154m), due to timing of season ticket renewals.

#AFC Interims gross debt cut to £246m (May 2012 £253m), while net debt worsens to £123m (May £99m) due to lower cash of £123m (May £154m).

#AFC Interims results: underlying improvement in cash balances still positive, despite fall from May to November.
https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...02/1.jpg:large

#AFC Interim results: there has been an unhealthy reliance on player sales to make profits in last few years.
https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...02/2.jpg:large

#AFC Interim results: almost all the revenue growth in last 5 years has come from centrally negotiated TV deals.
https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...02/3.jpg:large

#AFC Interims: £8m match day revenue fall due to 4 fewer home games, but only 1 due to timing. Likely to be 26 games in 12/13 vs 29 in 11/12

#AFC still have plenty of cash to spend on new players. In future, wages should be covered by more revenue from new TV and commercial deals.

Some #AFC deadwood coming to end of contract in summer, but impact of new contracts for Walcott, Wilshere, etc will hit wage bill.

One big question for the #AFC business model is what happens if they fail to qualify for the Champions League...

But if you know there going you shouldn't wait, snooze and loose, the worsted that would happen is you have 2 quality players and show a tiny loss, now you have neither player and not enough cash saved from waiting to buy either.

the only problem we could possibly face is other clubs offering silly money. and before CL comes into it...

Lloris; Debuchy, Yanga-Mbiwa, Vertonghen, Bale; Fellaini, Cabaye; Ben Arfa, Michu, Tevez; Suarez. Robinho, Julio Cesar, Berbatov, Vidal, Pirlo, Vucinic, Lichtsteiner

just a little list of players signed by clubs not in the CL.

No but it depends that the board is concerned about. Basically it's clear Arsenal's commercial revenue lags behind a lot of clubs of our type and that, combined with existing debt from the stadium, means Arsenal struggle to make a profit when player sales are taken out. The leaked stories of there being £70 million to spend is clearly rubbish unless we blow the cash reserves.

The money isn't there but the board are making it seem like it's all brilliant from their end and it's the manager who doesn't want to spend. This figures back up what has long been suspected, that realistically Arsenal only have around £20 to £30 million at best to spend. If we had kept all our players last year and simply added the ones we have now, there would be a £27 million loss. :erm:

I thought the big issue with Arsenal is the sponsorship deals they are in now is low and long-term (agreed pre- everyone elses big deals). Once they renegotiate those, money will be more plantiful, if of course they get into europe

It can be but that wasn't so much my point. I want us to spend the money but just saying that the results suggest that maybe they're isn't as much money as they say there is and the board are leaking otherwise to hide their own failures in generating more revenue.

Yes that is one of the problems and we'll see what happens when this new deal starts paying out. Overall through arsenal depend mostly on TV money and stadium revenue.

the media did spin Arsenals leak. there is money though. If Arsenal can clear the wage bill then I'm confident Arsenal would allow spend. its the bloody wage bill thats screwing us at present or more so how its spent and on who, how much etc. Arsenal did try force players out in the summer by leaking various transfer stories, 'x' player wanted by 'x' club, wages a problem etc.

:erm:

where as you've lost your best players and not replaced them adequately, sign Mata before selling cesc not after and you wouldn't have been gazumped it wouldn't have been so bad, still enough of that its so obvious its boring.

Come on guys do it for Bobby, I'm due in beckton for ten so may well pop in.

No I agree with all that. I agree but think the board are suffocating the club and leaving Wenger to take the blame.

he is partly to blame for persisting with crap. he is to blame for handing big contracts to youth. youth whom are clear to just take the pee. he is to blame for signing crap. the board are not suffocating this club alone.

Let's hope so.

Beckton?

good analyse by Gary but obviously I don't agree with his prediction for top 4. after Villa scored the cameras went to the Arsenal bench. Bould said something to Wenger. People have said Bould said 'i keep telling you...' whether that was directed at Wenger or the defenders is up for question.

Yes I had a job to do in beckton at ten which is only a few minutes away from the ground so was going to go to the match but it got canceled so didn't bother, my pal has a cooperate season ticket in the Greenwood and Lyle lounge, was probably a little unrealistic to try it tonight anyway, its tricky enough getting signed in making out they never got the email requesting guests when it isn't a sell out.

I feel sorry for wenger, I've always thought him to be the best but he's trying to do the job with one hand behind his back and imo if he goes there is no way you'll get anyone better.

a few tweaks and that genius of a man could dominate like Fergie done a few years back let alone compete year in year out. the frustrating thing is theres a solid foundation to work on so failure is hard to take.

the 'art' of playing the extra man in midfield isnt easy. you really do need to be tactically on point not only off field but on it too. the main man being ill in NY doesnt help, it was working with Tito in the dug out.

This isn't really how it works. I think teams have known for a long time how to play against Barcelona and many have tried, most of the times they've failed. It is one thing to know how to play against a team but it's an altogether different thing to actually do it.

Barcelona are simply not playing as well at the moment.
