Cannot understand logic of the upcomming £3 a box charge for TiVo, especially after Neal Berkett comments about we want our complete customer base over to TiVo in no more than five years. Link here

Maybe they want to get some extra revenue first before scrapping the £3 per month for people on TV XL in the future
or in the future scrap the additonal £6.50 additional box

Just constantly repeating the same thing doesn't make it true.....

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

VM have started the move to TiVo with V+ service removal for new customers, but they should speed it up with only VHD boxes being available for fault replacements, as we all know that at some time in the future there will be a new a non PVR upgrade to TiVo for these Cisco boxes. So I say this again it seems a backward step to charge per box!

I got email about this from Cindy Rose on the 18th September

Hello Martin, I hope you're well.

We have no plans at the moment to run the Tivo software on the VHD box. You would need the Tivo PVR in order to have the benefit of the Tivo experience.

I hope that helps.
Best regards,
Cindy

Right this worries me. I had a Tivo box installed yesterday when the engineer was out to repair my V+ box. I told him we were planning to get another one too so didn't want to just get one now if the second was going to cost us more as a result. If they try to charge me install and activation for the second one will I be able to get them to remove the Tivo under some kind of cooling off period?

Yep, I think its three weeks but may be two.

Thanks. I'll call them later then and clarify what the second box will cost me, and whether the first one has been charged for install or carried out for free on service visit.

Hi HDFootyMan,

Any chance you could let me know where you got the above quote from, i've been trying to get this confirmed one way or the other with no luck (plenty of speculation, but no actaul confirmation from anyone running the updated software that it's enabled, or from VM that it will definitly be in the coming update) - however your quote looks like it's from an official source as they also quote cost.

Cheers

This could still be done, I understand, on the TiVo if I didn't want to watch another channel at the same time. However, is there a feature on the TiVo that allows you to make it play a selection of your recordings successively (like a playlist) without manual intervention?

I rang again today, nice scottish lady told me, after checking my account and what she could offer me, that I could have a 500gb Tivo for £49.95 all in. I explained that previously I was told it would be 2x £49.95 (installation&activation) she said that is usually the case, but she could offer me another TiVo for one fee. So after confirming for a third time I took the offer, I wont be paying an extra £3 for having 2 Tivos and will only pay £49.95. Install takes place in November.

Glad I rang to check again.

When the bbc red button comes to Tivo by the next update. Will you have to be on a bbc channel to check BBC Sport, BBC News etc ? because the other boxes you could from the home page press 4-4-1 and it took you to bbc sport.

Yes, you can play all in a group in a series, but not individual programmes from different series/groups AFAIK.

I am sure that you have been told this before but.... on TiVo all the red button will do is take you to the app. You will probably be able to go direct to the BBC app from the apps menu also.

The BBC red button stuff will not be included in the update, it will be added outwith the update. TiVo apps and features can be added without needing an update.

Red button on ITV actually brings up an overlay menu with one item in it, a link the the ITV Player section of On Demand.

I am currently on the VIP50 package with the main box being a 1TB Tivo and the extra box is a V+ box, which I have in my bedroom but it one of the first V+ boxes and is very noisy and keeps me awake at night. I phoned up just now to see if I could swap the V+ box for a 500gb Tivo but was told that I couldn't do that on the VIP package, I have to keep the V+ box but can get a 3rd box which can be another Tivo box. Does anyone know if this is the case? I'm sure I've read somewhere on here, that other people on this forum have VIP packages but have all Tivo Boxes and not V+ boxes, or have I imagined that?! Thank you.

Yes, you can play all of a folder by pressing play when the folder is highlighted.
They'll then play in date order one after another (oldest first).

Go into Settings->Network and see what it says for Last attempt and Last status. You could also try telling it to connect now.

It should tell you on the screen why it is asking. What does it say?

Does it know the current programme title for ATR?

At the time there was no programme title listed so it just said type in your pin or something like that and also on the second point of the EPG showing only 6 days ahead l will go into settings/network and see what it says and if needed connect again.

We had quite a lot of problems last week with the TV going off-line, and we were advised by the person who phoned us to ask whether our new TIVO box :) was working OK that there was major work being done that would be finished by the weekend. I am pleased to report that we are back to normal now, so hopefully all is well with you too now.

Incidentally, the guy told me that we would be getting Lovefilm video streaming by Christmas. Can't wait for that!:):)

The recordings get in to folders if you set series links, But I do not think that it is possible to set up a folder to have different content in?

As I've said in a separate post, the introduction of new features to TiVo planned for the second half of this year will not come all in a single update.

I just hope to set expectations because it seems that a rumour has been heavily perpetuated on this board that there is one all encompassing update to come. In actuality, there will be a large update, but other feature updates will follow very soon after this update (as their introduction had the update itself as a dependency).

Incidentally, the guy told me that we would be getting Lovefilm video streaming by Christmas. Can't wait for that!:):)

That sounds good about Lovefilm possibly coming.

It should tell you on the screen why it is asking. What does it say?

Does it know the current programme title for ATR?

Well l still seem to be having a few problems as l have connected several times and it has still not updating the EPG to 12 to 13 days ahead and still has only 6 days ahead on quite a lot of channels and has the words to be announced and no programme information available.

Good lateral thinking there. ;):tu:

A similar thing works for other wishlist BUT very long-winded:

After setting the wishlist
you need then go and delete each recordings
and then restore each recording one by one
they'll appear in the new folder when they are restored.

(The folder only gets populated on "new" recordings,
and an "old" recording becomes "new" when restored from deletion )

I phoned up just now to see if I could swap the V+ box for a 500gb Tivo but was told that I couldn't do that on the VIP package, I have to keep the V+ box but can get a 3rd box which can be another Tivo box. Does anyone know if this is the case? I'm sure I've read somewhere on here, that other people on this forum have VIP packages but have all Tivo Boxes and not V+ boxes, or have I imagined that?! Thank you.

I phoned up earlier this morning and spoke to someone in the UK Call centre. Was again told that on my package I couldn't swap my V+ for the 500gb Tivo, but could move the V+ to another room and have the 500gb Tivo put in my bedroom and only pay a £49.95 activation fee and no increase in my monthly premium! Don't know how that works as thought I would have to pay a £6.50 multi-room subscription to have a 3rd box, so i'm not complaining.

Now go to System Info->System Info. What does it say for "Programme Information To"?

Which channels and days are missing? (You are aware that the "terrestrial" channels only provide EPG data weekly, so you don't get 14 days for these, aren't you?)

its says programme information to 4/11 and the channels where the problems are are Filmfour and the "terrestrial" channels and all their offspring channels where it only goes up to the end of friday when this is usually 11 or 12 days ahead and l am aware of not getting 14 days for them.

Ok so I get the fact that recordings get put into folders according to series/program name. Is it possible to get the box to play back all the recordings in more than one folder consecutively?

I'm so used to what I do on the V+ box where I can archive any mix of programs I want and get a display of how much time I have added to the list as I do so. It seems like a backward step in this respect on the TiVo?

That's normal. As they only provide data once a week, it creeps down each day, then a week gets added all at once. You will see anywhere between one and two weeks, depending on which day you look.

Spiderplant, are you aware of the very active thread on the Community Forum regarding this problem?

There you will see that VM have now confirmed that problem of current missing EPG data is a fault.

TiVo is not V+ (and having had V+ since launch will be glad to see the back of it soon).

The TiVo way of archiving programmes is to transfer them over the network port in the background, but VM haven't enabled that feature
(and probably never will the TiVo->PC transfer -copyright law is stronger in the UK).
But that's how its done on the US TiVo premiere, TiVo to TiVo transfers and TiVo<->PC.
-the VM TiVo is basically a TiVo premiere.

I wasn't aware, but I've just had a look at both the thread and the fault ticket. There are two different things getting muddled in the thread. The first is the general 'issue' of BBC etc only giving updates weekly, which is expected behaviour.

The fault ticket was raised for a customer who didn't have a working return path, which would result in eventually running out of EPG data. As far as I can tell, it was a single-customer fault and is now resolved.

With all due respect, it is not resolved. I've got no BBC or 5 listings from this Sunday onwards (not next Sunday, this one coming, the next day called Sunday, not the one after it), while I do have them for ITV and Channel 4. I am aware of the normal behavior, but I should have BBC listings for this coming Sunday by now.

I can't tell from the VM community thread who Claire_D raised that ticket for. Do you believe it was you? If so, you probably just need to make a service connection then wait a while to get your guide up to date. (Mine currently has BBC1 up to 6am on 05/11)

If it wasn't you, I'll ask the same as I asked denphone. What does it say for "Last attempt", "Last status" and "Programme info to"?

It has always been the case that they will come to TiVo eventually.

But when hasn't yet been confirmed. Once there is a confirmed date for the BBC and/or Sky Red Button services you will get a Customer News item and/or a Press Release

Continually asking about it won't change what Virgin will tell you at this stage

Which part of "this release will introduce some new functionality and some bug fixes, but will also provide the base for other functionality in later releases" don't you understand?

As I've said in a separate post, the introduction of new features to TiVo planned for the second half of this year will not come all in a single update.

I just hope to set expectations because it seems that a rumour has been heavily perpetuated on this board that there is one all encompassing update to come. In actuality, there will be a large update, but other feature updates will follow very soon after this update (as their introduction had the update itself as a dependency).
