Thought I'd give this a try, this is what I got today ;

Not sure what it really means.
Lots of pretty yellow, and a steady green & blue.

I dont have any known issues, my connection always seems solid.

Maybe this can push them to find a fix faster than 1 year+ :dunce:

Has the issue been improved/solved since they did the work last week? Noticed there hasn't been any replies to the thread from the forum team since.

I was advised to give it a couple of weeks before responding. It has disappeared before so the fault number was cleared, then BINGO the fault came back.

I'm having a few issues with my BB output, it's has though a page will hang for about 5-10 seconds before then quickly downloading all the required info. Sometimes when I'm listening to online radio (TMS for example it will stop and pick up again)...

I don't think there's much wrong showing here...

https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2016/10/12.png

..but I did notice it being a lot slower during peak time last night, which I think it to be expected.

Another thing since I changed my Superhub to 'Respond to ICMP echo requests sent to WAN IP' the IP address on my Tivo has changed from a 192.***.*.* to now 169.***.***.*** and I cannot not control the Tivo using the mobile app or VM TiVo Net Remote for my PC.

I'm presuming it's since I updated my superhub settings because I was able to use the app to remotely control the TiVO prior to that change.

I notice the TiVo network settings has an option for creating a static IP address but did not want to mess with this until I know for sure this is what I need to do, as my IP was static before at 192.***.*.*

Any ideas to get the app working again, or is it just a matter or unticking the superhub Respond to ICMP echo requests sent to WAN IP option.

The fault has persisted for over a year. I have been reporting it via the forum for over a year also. Reports with graphs from www.thinkbroadband.com, as well as superhub log files.

Several attempts to rectify the fault have been attempted with no final successful repair.

Even contacting the CEO had no effect, and on that occasion it appears VM tried to contact me via telepathy. Being unable to receive such attempts, it was deemed the fault was cleared and therefore it was closed.

Being a VM pensioner from the technical side, I understand how such intermittent faults are to diagnose and repair. I have been very patient. But even my patience has begun to wear thin.

A concerted effort by all parts of the VM structure is needed to rectify this situation. Please.

I have an update from the network engineers who were very quick to investigate this matter.

They discovered some network errors linked back to a couple of card slots which have now been reset.
Almost 3 weeks and the fault (F004784782) appears to have been fixed after over a year of reporting it. :-)

Time to contact the CEO's office and see if "lessons have been learnt".

Edit: The above has now been resolved, it was a simple case of the Ethernet cable becoming unplugged. Although I'm still having issues with my BB speed/downloads hanging/freezing.

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

ja, just a few things to clarify for the future dude:

A 192.168.x.x address is a local address assigned by the router. Even if you haven't got internet access, the fact that you have got a local address means the router is up and running and you are connected to your local area network and will be able to communicate with other devices on the network (e.g. stream content from a server to a tv). When a device gets a 169.254.x.x address that is a private address (APIPA) which the device itself assigns to make itself feel better so it thinks it has an ip address and when this happens you have no network connectivity at all. From a troubleshooting perspective you would firstly look at the router to see if it is up, then look at other devices to see if their network connection is up (and if it is) then you start looking at the one device which isn't connected and check cables, network settings etc.

Appears as though it might be peak usage slowdown I'm experiencing. I'm using the internet now 6am and it's flying, pages are loading instantly. Maybe the demand is just getting too much for Virgin to handle at peak times. I've noticed a considerable decline in the user experience when browsing t'net at peak times.

Yes it used to be terrible. I am near Brooklands towards the seafront and the connection was awful for a very long time and evenings was just unusable. I am now on FTTC. But always looking around. I campaigned long and hard with VM to get the mess sorted out. I am glad they introduced LANC8 and LANC9.

That monitor looks a whole lot better then what I was used to with VM.

Perfectly normal for a Hub3, mine is similar on 16 but doesn't affect my connection at all, although i do wonder why i always have this pattern.

As I said on the VM forum, it is indeed counter-intuitive that the lower BQM shoould represent a satisfactory service. That said, if you are doing stuff over the 24 hours, then that will hinder the low priority BQM pings and thus you might be satisfied with performance.

As a matter of interest, what model hub do you have?

Yes, logs from their SHUBs were almost exactly the same. Visiting techs were aware of this, all through the long year. This is why Networks were involved.

Hi Taf,

Thank you for allowing the engineer appointment. I just had to tick that box and have now flagged this matter up to Networks for further attention.

The fault reference is F004784782 and I've fully noted it on your account. I cannot predict the outcome of this, only that I'll do everything in my power to get this resolved.

Interestingly your Hub is currently reporting 24 T3 timeouts for the past 7 hours.

Pretty normal graphs for most people with a Hub3 with the odd exception(Sephiroth).

The reason you have gained more yellow is from the increase in downstream channels, I am on 16 but i always feel it doesnt affect my browsing or gaming.

I have 20 DS channels. The main difference between yours and mine is that your average latency is much higher than mine. Whether or not that's due to my having 4 US channels, I don't know for sure. My recollection is that when I got my hub 3 in January 2016, I still had 2 US channels and the average latency was the same.

Mythica 05-02-2017 16:09

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

Cheers for the replies. Just wanted to check how normal it was. For some reason I thought adding more DS channels would help the graph look better rather than worse.

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

Ordinarily it would. But there is a quirk in the Hub 3 processor (which I am told will be fixed by eentbual firmware change), whereby housekeeping interrupt occurs too frequently, thus impacting latency.

Makes me wonder if something in the cores gone pop causing either re-routing and congestion.

Seems to be on certian routes and not others.

Yep if this keeps happening might have to order an ADSL line to maintain decent latency :-( (No FTTC here it's ADSL2+ or VM)

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

I'm assuming something has failed somewhere, because early hours of the third at like 3am there was multiple disconnections on my VM connection and the same dropouts were happening on a friends VM connection in London and also another friends VM up north. One hosts an MC server and all players were dropping out for around an hour before it settled. Some sites were inaccessible etc.

I'm assuming that the load has been rerouted and it's showing up as congestion on our ping graphs but also in some real world usage too, my connection to my VPN right now is running 60ms.

What's going on here then?

No activity at my end could be causing this. No obvious effect on speed test result. Ping is high though.

Update from virgin media

Hi all

We’ve seen a few posts recently within the community with BQM graphs showing an increase in latency which we’re looking into. Will keep you updated

Thanks,

Something went horribly wrong yesterday here, could barely use our connection, not sure it's the same issue others are talking about.

Graph looks better but speeds are still quarter of what they should be

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

It seems they are fiddling with the network today (maybe they are fixing the hump issue) because I've had several cutouts where sites were inaccessible. Everyone's ping graphs are showing this, with some showing steps in min latency.

Here's my ping graph, though mine isn't stepping in min latency like some.

Noticed that my dads connection had gone down on Friday. Looks as though it's been moved to a new CMTS, Telf 13. CMTS MAC shows as a Cisco. Be interesting to see if the connection I'm on (Telf 10) gets moved to a new CMTS soon.

Just to add, this is what my Dads connection was like before on Telf10:

Be interesting to see what the the connection is like on the new CMTS at peak times. Graph in the previous post (#5580) is live.

Also, I got it wrong. I'm on Telf11 not 10.

Interesting, looks like it was national yes, I'm at work so didn't notice if it actually dropped or not but if it did drop nationally then that's quite bad...

Of course no word from virgin about what's going on.

I know you want to turn your connection off every night, but why don't you put the hub on a timer so it comes on before you need to use it to give it chance to settle?

Why don't you move the modem so it doesn't need turning off?

Due to my Carer duties I have no idea what time I will be up, and moving the modem was quoted at a price I could not afford, plus the whole idea of having it in our bedroom is to stop the twins turning it on at stupid o'clock.

And I am not alone in having this fault, it's all over the country.

Would it be less "hassle" to put the the Shub in modem mode and use a router that has parental controls? Can then set on/off times for clients without having to turn the Shub off overnight. I know Asus routers can do that.

roughbeast 16-03-2017 11:58

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

I'm not sure why I'm getting these episodes of packet loss or apparent disconnection. The SH3 config file has not changed nor has the software version, so I am assuming a temporary or developing fault. Those latency spikes are not due to activity at this end either.

I see that others are getting similar issues. What is VM playing at?

Looks like an issue further into the network with the amount of customers seeing the same thing.

Virgin still not even acknowledged this new round of random packet loss
