Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)
I was going to phone this morning, but i don't know if i can be bothered now. Just seems too hit and miss who you actually speak to about it, and i'll end up been annoyed for the rest of the day if i'm told i can't have it yet :erm:

X2srj - Exactly, its the lieing, sitting there telling me it doesn't exist as if I asked about aliens or something. I KNOW people have it, yet seemed about to swear on his mother's life it didn't exist

If you mess about with the duplex settings on the modem you will most probably find if you change it from "auto sensing" to 100M Full it will perform really really bad (mine did) I just don't think its capable of coping with the full 10Mbit without the correct firmware. |
Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)
This is weird
http://www.asdlguide.org.uk/tools/speedtest.asp gives me Direction Actual Speed True Speed (estimated) Downstream 5834 Kbps (729.3 KB/sec) 6300 Kbps (inc. overheads) Upstream 482 Kbps (60.3 KB/sec) 520 Kbps (inc. overheads) http://specials.zdnet.co.uk/misc/band-test/ Gives me Your line speed: 7246.9 Kbps 888.1 K bytes/sec Your line speed: 9691.2 Kbps 1187.6 K bytes/sec |
Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)
I phoned CS several times yesterday and once today, every time I got a different answer,
Sort it out |
Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)
NTL are so bad at lying. I got upgraded after phoning up about 10 times. In the end it was a woman who got me the upgrade. Also they told me that it was only available to new customers and the existing ones wouldn't be upgraded until the end of November/December/early next year (depending on who I talked to) so I said ok what about if I cancel and then renew. They said you'll have to pay the installation fee. I told them that I had just phoned sales (which I had!) and they had told me that it was free installation this month. NTL have one of the worst CS after 3 mobile!

Not superfast speeds showing yet but fast enough to show that ive been upgraded. I use adsl for speed checks and i wonder what speed limitations there are with the speed check sites themselves. The CS did make a point of the 75gb cap but im not too concerned about that issue anyway. |
Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)
does anyone know or heard of anyone in the colchester/ipswich area mentioning being upgraded yet?

Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)
Use this people - http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d...speedtest.html
It will be the most best one to use atm as its hosted directly on NTL's webservers :) Again only showing 5-6Mbit here as my modem can't handle it 1st 128K took 218 ms = 601248 Bytes/sec = approx 5002 kbits/sec 2nd 128K took 266 ms = 492752 Bytes/sec = approx 4100 kbits/sec 3rd 128K took 250 ms = 524288 Bytes/sec = approx 4362 kbits/sec 4th 128K took 266 ms = 492752 Bytes/sec = approx 4100 kbits/sec |

Even people in the same area could receive differing information from each other when they call. This could be because of the equipment the customer has installed or because of several other factors which only become apparant to the CS agent when they try to do the upgrade. Many customers are posting that they can only get a fraction of the 10 Mb when they upgrade. This can be caused by many factors including the setup of their computer, router and CM. A more likely cause though is that there are a lot of people doing speed tests which can max out the speed test site and if more than four of them are on the same UBR card can be maxing out that card. I can visualise areas where several customers on the same UBR card are doing speed test after speed test and trying to max out their connection by downloading from newsgroups or similar. If this is the case then none of them will get anywhere near the max. Just think what would happen if every single customer had been upgraded to 10 Mb at the same time. What speeds do you think they would get if they all tried to max out their connection? |

1st 128K took 94 ms = 1394383 Bytes/sec = approx 11601 kbits/sec 2nd 128K took 111 ms = 1180829 Bytes/sec = approx 9824 kbits/sec 3rd 128K took 264 ms = 496485 Bytes/sec = approx 4131 kbits/sec 4th 128K took 95 ms = 1379705 Bytes/sec = approx 11479 kbits/sec These results appear to be rather fast: maybe this page was in the browser cache. lol I like the last line! |
Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)
1st 128K took 188 ms = 697191 Bytes/sec = approx 5801 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 172 ms = 762047 Bytes/sec = approx 6340 kbits/sec 3rd 128K took 203 ms = 645675 Bytes/sec = approx 5372 kbits/sec 4th 128K took 187 ms = 700920 Bytes/sec = approx 5832 kbits/sec I wonder if i bought my own modem would the speeds increase ? |

B) I wouldnt put this forum in the same category as a pub, As its not heresay people Are getting a better service and paying the same as me. C) I've called CS and Tech support yesterday and Today, The answer was the same on both counts, Sorry sir its not available, until end of december, I put my point across on both occasions regarding those that already have the service, there answer was that "this is merely a TRIAL period. And not the proper rollout". No wonder people are getting Upset. about this. |

It just seems to me that IF someonecan recieve the upgrade, then why do they have to ring CS 5/6/7 times to recieve the upgrade. Surely this is just making more work for CS.:) |
Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)
I'm not sure about the make of the modem that I've got but it's giving me the full whack.
it says NTL: Broadband internet on the front. |
