Re: Changes to Virgin TV (2020)

Some moving of transport streams for a 2nd day, which you wouldn't otherwise notice, have had the knock-on effect of removing a few Favourite markers from some channels.

The transport streams in question carry HD channels. So if you use the Favourite Channels feature, I recommend you go through them and see if you need to re-add some to your list.

According to JJ20X on Forum Box they are seemingly moving transport streams in a particular range so they are all together on VM's network and the pattern means it's likely another two transport streams will be moving in the coming days.

So keep an eye on your Favourites list.

Channels that have likely have been affected so far are:

Eurosport 1HD
Discovery HD
BBC Scotland HD
Lifetime HD
Crime+Inv HD
Sky HISTORY HD
Star Gold HD

SkySports MainEventHD
Sky Will Smith HD
Sky Drama HD
ITV2 HD
ITV3 HD
ITV4 HD
Smithsonian

I’m noticing the PickTV picture On 165 is now HD

No EPG update as of yet but its looking a lot better during ads rather than the older program which is on just now.

I see what you mean ScottishSteve, I put it on this morning.

JJ20X on Forum Box says there is a "new version" and one marked "old" now.

Just looked on DigitalBitRate and there is a closed Pick stream and an active one that has a picture resolution that's HD.

The channel name still doesn't say HD yet.

Strangely enough the Freesat version is the same and doesn’t say HD

They haven't put the HD tag on the channel either. I pressed Blue to filter the guide to HD-only and it doesn't show. It looks like the EPG data is the old Pick, as none of the shows say HD either. Mine is no longer marked as a Favourite channel so I did have to re-add it, which makes sense as that normally happens in this sort of situation.

It is showing the signs that the HD service could be a temporary installation as any other HD service launch is a big affair.

There is some uncertainty about whether Pick will be re-branding to Sky Pick, so they may be waiting until then before updating the channel name and logo to include HD.

It's not unheard of for TV channels to broadcast in HD but not include HD in their name or logo, such as the Smithsonian Channel and Racing TV.

Channel Guide PDFs updated again (16th June) with the following corrections:

Amazon Prime Video now on 205, not 228.

Comedy Central HD and MTV HD now shown as included in Mix and Fun.

Discovery HD and Animal Planet HD now shown as included in Fun.

Nat Geo WILD (SD) removed from 264.

Channel 4 HD regional variation now indicated on 104/141.

Indeed but it isn’t even flagged in HD on Virgin or Freesat

The other channels are marked as HD in listings

Well done SonicMaster! Your continual effort on the official VM forums to get these corrected is paying off. Much appreciated.:)

Due to the stream Virgin Media has launch Pick HD on it look like Sky will stop broadcasting Pick HD when the football ends.

That's terrible - Not that I watch Pick much, but surely they should do away with the SD channel and keep the HD one.

It's so that Virgin Media customers on lower packages can enjoy the free-to-air Premier League games in HD. Seems a positive thing to me.
