The trouble with some of these young English players is they don't want to fight for their place at the bigger clubs thus that's why he has joined Southampton with a view to making it permanent after next season.

No disrespect to Southampton Julian ;) who are a lovely club and who also have a excellent youth system but the fact remains that top English players need to play for the biggest clubs at a rarified level if England are ever to punch their weight in international football again.

So benchwarming at a "Big" club is the way forward for England?

Players haven't left Southampton to further their England careers.
They have left to earn more money, that is all that matters to them.

The abject performances by England in the recent past are a sad testament to that.

Being very hungry and having a will to improve and develop their game all the time usually helps a lot.

Look to me like Southampton are the Celtic of English football. And good on them.
