Totally agree m8, and whats all this nonsense that our price would have to go up if virgin just did a quick deal for Atlantic? Would sky not have to offer it to virgin at the same relative % cost that they offer it to sky platform subscribers? For example if we buy XL tv, each channel in that package costs a certain % of that total package, which is the same basis as sky world, so if sky can offer it to their customers at no extra cost, how can they then expect virgin to charge its customers extra? That surly is unfair competion and exactly the sort of buisness pratices that last years ofcom ruling frowned upon. Also while i'm at it i'm sick of people saying i get basic HD for free - i don't, is there a TV package on virgin that costs £0 per month? No, you pay for the package that you recieve, no one gets anything for free, i pay my money and i want treating like a paying customer.

It's free to Sky customers only until August, then they have to pay. Also on Sky you pay extra to get HD. It's also worth pointing out Sky customers don't get such a wide selection of VOD content (something I personally use almost as much as the linear channels).

I think it's safe to say at this point if you want Sky Atlantic anytime soon/ever you need to move to Sky.

Sky hasn't got 1,000's of hours of VoD included, ESPN and HD channels included on XL.

HD is included in your XL subscription, whether you have HD or not. Sky charge £10.25 per box for HD add on.

If TIVO proved to be a success and Virginmedia gained Sky customers and Sky decided to hit the panic button and drop the HD charge would Virgin still have to charge the 7.00 for premium HD ?

"HD is included in your XL subscription, whether you have HD or not. Sky charge £10.25 per box for HD add on."[/QUOTE]

HD does have in effect a charge on VM in so far you get only 6 HD channels on TV packages M+ and L, these being the main BB1, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 and Film Four HD channels. See http://shop.virginmedia.com/digital-...n-tv/hdtv.html.

If you want to have all available HD channels then you pay for the XL TV package and then there is the Sky HD Movie channels on top as an additional subscription.

VM clearly have the advantage over Sky as customers on lower TV packages can at least get the 6 HD channels above.

But to get Sky One HD you have to be on the top XL package so effectively you pay the equivalent of that £10 extra as the difference between L and XL. So if Sky is sensitive to selling their own new channels in HD, they should just be added to the XL package

Possibly, they may be able to drop it. depends on the agreement in place with Sky.

All I got when ask if it something to do with new channels from BSkyB or other Broadcasters all I got was ''Might be... can't say just yet.''

BSkyB to rebrand Sky3 as Pick TV next month.

Sky 3 will relaunch as Pick TV on 28 February across its current homes on Freeview, Sky and cable.

Apologies if this has already been said but I'm still catching up on several days of 'heavy' posting in this and a couple of other related threads, so some of my replies are lagging behind a bit.

Some criticism has been laid at VM for not negotiating access to Sky Atlantic SD/HD (yet) and it has been said that it is their own choice/fault and not due to exclusivity measures by Sky.

I would like to point out that the other TV platforms are also being left without this channel. Whether or not they have also tried to negotiate for SA I don't know but it certainly looks like it is purely down to Sky wanting this to be an exclusive channel to their direct customers, at least at launch. If any negotiations have been attempted, they have doubtless failed on prohibitive pricing or conditions.

Anyone else - who isn't staff :D - think there may well be a splurge of announcements to coincide with the TIVO announcement?

For me the difference between SKy and Virgin is on demand. While Sky have the HD Virgin have the on demand. I would like more HD channels esp the sport but I am more than happy with on demand content as I rarely watch programs live. This is the future and you will see this happening more and more. If you are complaining about the price and HD offerings wait a few more years and you will pay per program!
