I realise that this'll sound bizarre but there are currently three STM policies under discussion:
Confused?
You're not the only one!

Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer

hey guys below is the current stm.

http://www.virginmedia.com/help/traffic-management.php

As you know I recently got upgraded to 10mb. Now in day time everything is fine. However during night time, my speeds get capped to 2.5mb. Now according to the stm, 2.5mb is the speed users will be downgraded to if they download over the limit during 4-9 clock.

I waited until after 9, around 10 clock to start downloading songs and booom my speeds goes down to 2.5mb. For the second night in a row, i was angry, so a quick call to technical support, and they tell me ive been capped. For what reason they dont have a clue because they can see from their end that I did not download anything at all.

Whats the point of buying a service if they dont let us use it, and even if u dont download over their limits, they'll still cap you. Now i proberly understood that my speed was low, but what about thousands of others that dont know. Virgin media is taking the p!ss. Its like buying a banana but only being allowed to eat half of it.

Is anyone else having problems like mine, cos im naffed. More of us should complain that we want Richard Branson out, and back to the Blueyonder days.

So any info guys...............?

hey huys this is my ubr :
cpc1-bolt9-0-0-manc.cable.ntl.com

btw from the monday in this week when I have downloaded something from internet explorer (rapidshare/megaupload) the speed starts off at about 1.2 MB/S then decreases to a steady 500-512 Kb/s. My area is still TBC but it's kind of strange don't you think. This has never happened to me before.

Hi MaXiMiZe, https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2008/09/12.gif to the forums. It would be best if you removed your customer reference number from your IP address.

If you can somehow get the STM to trip-in before 10pm, I'd recommend you immediately get onto the newsgroup and ask TS to confirm the time it started.
If their logs show it cut in after 9pm, they'll have little argument against reporting it as a fault.

Oh, and Blueyonder effectively sold you out to NTL.

Do you think my shortages in speed is due to me using a USB connection rather than eithernet? I am currently getting around 700kbs and should be getting a lot more.

I'm not really in a position to advise you MaX as I do my downloading in the early hours of the morning. As long as the downloads are there in the morning when I need them I never really worry how long they take. I am probably one of the least techie people around here but I am sure that other members will be able to advise you. :)

the only way to find out is to swap to an ethernet connection - just make sure if you do, that you uninstall the USB drivers so there are no conflicts, and that the ethernet card is showing no issues in device manager before re-booting everything - modem first, next the router if you have one, then the computer. Remember to allow plenty of time for each device to initialise before moving on to booting the next one ...

The date at the top says it's been updated again, but nothing for Birmingham.

Not yet. I'm one of the unfortunates on the Baguley server. VM did some work a couple of weeks ago the result of which was that my connection was moved from cpc 1 to cpc 4 and since then my speeds have been far more consistent giving me 3.7 whenever I check.

To be honest I am almost dreading the upgrade now in case I start loosing all my speed due to contention again.

Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer

What a load of rubbish VM are turning out to be. Just go tmy 10meg upgrade and jump on tonight and think 'this is slow'. Just tested and i have been capped. Now usually i would not mind as i do download a bit but the funny thing is i have done nothing in the last 2 days. In fact i have hardly used the net at all.

Is it possible that VM have upgraded but can't deliver what they promise?

results here
Fri, 06 Jun 2008 20:23:09 GMT

Test 1: 1024K took 4078 ms = 251.1 KB/sec, approx 2069 Kbps, 2.02 Mbps
Test 2: 1024K took 4359 ms = 234.9 KB/sec, approx 1936 Kbps, 1.89 Mbps
Test 3: 1024K took 3391 ms = 302 KB/sec, approx 2488 Kbps, 2.43 Mbps
Test 4: 2048K took 7516 ms = 272.5 KB/sec, approx 2245 Kbps, 2.19 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 2185 Kbps, 2.13 Mbps

EDIT - Just tested again
Fri, 06 Jun 2008 20:29:25 GMT

Test 1: 1024K took 2750 ms = 372.4 KB/sec, approx 3069 Kbps, 3 Mbps
Test 2: 1024K took 1641 ms = 624 KB/sec, approx 5142 Kbps, 5.02 Mbps
Test 3: 1024K took 2344 ms = 436.9 KB/sec, approx 3600 Kbps, 3.52 Mbps
Test 4: 2048K took 6594 ms = 310.6 KB/sec, approx 2559 Kbps, 2.5 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 3593 Kbps, 3.51 Mbps
