Morning all,

With the news of Sky Sports HD plus the 2 news channels coming soon, I am surprised VM havent pushed harder for Sky 3D.

I remember reading that VM was trying to push it more, with more 3D on-demand content coming.

Or maybe they have and we just don't know about it lol

Sky probably did not want to do a deal with Virgin regarding their 3D channel UC.

That's a shame, it would be a good acquisition for VM. Before I left Sky about 4years ago, they were adding more and more content onto the channel.

3D has still remained a niche product and l cannot see this changing UC as apart from Sky many others have either withdrawn from it or simply are not interested in it anymore.

Yeah I still think there is not a buy in to 3D unlike HD and 4k, certainly think it will be a time but only when the technology improves to the extent you dont need the glasses. Out of interest are we the only country that has a dedicated 3D channel or do others countries have one

I think it was for the niche reason VM wanted to plug it a bit more.

As more people buy newer TVs, 3D seems to be coming as a standard part of it.

The 3D content I watch at home is mainly the animated feature films with the kids. But I would definitely watch more 3D content if it was available, but I know it's not the same for everyone.

Resolution changes will definitely be easier to implement. I hear VM are working with Tivo on the next gen boxes with 4k in mind.

3D glasses seem to be the barrier, plus only the animated films seem to get it right at the moment.

My colleague from the Netherlands says there are 3D channels in Europe as well as they have access to Sky 3D too

Would love sky 3D channel to come virgin.but its a part time channel so don't see why sky keep it exclusive.

It is a shame, when I was with Sky, I did watch it quite a bit.

I'm sure there are lots of VM customers with Sports and/or Movies subs that would like to watch things in 3D as well as the other content that's on there.

The 3D on-demand that Virgin has is limited, but the quality is good.

didnt the CEO or someone in VM state they weren't convinced on the merits of 3D and didnt think it had a long term future? Maybe it wasnt a case of sky trying to keep the channel exclusive but a case of VM not interested in going after it?

im sure there is an interview out there?? or am i going crazy?

This was from July 2013, so may not be relevant since the new take over

When we questioned Virgin Media as to why it is pushing 3D TV after the BBC said just last week that its service will cease at the end of the year because so far uptake has been minimal, the UK ISP said that although 3D "is not setting the world on fire" it still sees it as a valuable add-on to its service.

"The 3D market continues to develop and mature and, with one million 3D shows watched on demand since we launched in 2010, our customers have enjoyed getting a taste of the 3D experience from the comfort of their own sofas," a Virgin Media spokesperson told The INQUIRER.

Confirmed: Forces TV to launch on Virgin Media.

Media Boy HQ has just found the following web site http://forces.tv/

Media Boy HQ has not seen any info on when Forces TV will launch or they Virgin Channel number - but DS Forum is reporting that they are testing on Virgin Media and Sky right now.

Good research guys! :)

I agree about 3d tv not really taking off and I have no interest in it so not personally bothered whether virgin get sky 3d or not.

Even Eurosport no longer broadcast their 3D Channel.
