I don't think we'll go for Vertonghen if M'Vila signs. We would have three good centre backs and the depth to allow Song to cover in a crisis. Vertonghen wouldn't want to be back up and you can't really rotate a CB much as other positions.

---------- Post added at 13:18 ---------- Previous post was at 13:13 ----------

Leighton Baines would be an epic final signing (I think we'll make one more signing if we get M'Vila) but that won't happen.

i was thinking Vertonghen as leftback but yeah, Baines would be welcomed. Fragile Gibbs as backup. Santos the new Eboue can be sold.

Re: Football Season 2011/12

Anyway I wouldn't be too disappointed if we don't get a new left back, Santos is fine as back up and whilst Gibbs is inexperienced the only way he'll get experience is with game time. His injury record is a concern.

We're seeing a shift away from the youth policy now but I seriously hope we continue it in a smaller form with young players being placed into a more experienced first team. I think the way Fabregas influenced Wilshere's development is an example of how this can work. We have Wilshere, Gibbs and Szczesny as the young players that go into this first team and I think that works well. They will be supported by the likes of Van Persie, Vermaelen, Sagna, Walcott and Arteta (so weird to think Walcott is now a senior player, still only 23). M'Vila is only 21 as well.

thenry 08-05-2012 20:22

Re: Football Season 2011/12

Santos has filled in ok but if we are to push on we need to strengthen.

Gibbs needs game time. As third choice he'll hardly get any.

What is hope but a feeling of optimism, a thought that says things will improve, it won't always be bleak, there's a way to rise above the present circumstances. Hope is an internal awareness that you do not have to suffer forever, and that somehow, somewhere there is a remedy for despair that you will come upon if you can only maintain this expectancy in your heart.;)

Not sure what Tottenham are doing but VDV has a serious chip on his shoulder. might be because Wenger went against signing him even though RvP told him to.

well 1 things for sure him and his agent have started figures sky high. he'll only get those numbers at City, Real. I doubt even Barca would hand him what he wants. Then he wants first team footy. Me thinks he needs to take a step back. I still feel we're still in with a chance.

They need better centre backs and more depth in that position. He is a promising young player whose transfer fee isn't especially large. He is actually a good fit for Tottenham.

Wages will be an issue and always is with Spurs but he'll have a better chance of playing every game at Spurs than Arsenal. Maybe as a LB at Arsenal.

I'll be happy if we sign him but not disappointed if we don't.

I doubt he will sign for anyone that still isn't sure of CL football. Maybe he'll go to Spurs if they qualify.

no but the fact he wants to join makes me ignore the media saying its not close blah blah.. for all we know it could be because of CLs not yet confirmed for next season.

Yes glad they won we have beaten them twice already 4-0 and 4-1 and have always struggled against Brum usually drawing, shame we can't carry any of those goals over as form and stats count for little on matchday.

Speculation is growing that Manchester City may have exchanged money for players, leading opposing fans to claim that they have ‘bought’ the title.

The Premier League was set up in 1992 as a collective non-profit cooperative with the sole objective of volunteers coming together to mutually benefit society and culture. Rule 3.2.7 prohibits any exchange of money for players or their services.

Since 1992 Manchester United have opted to grow all of their players in small pots on a windowsill in Stretford in a similar method to that used to grow cress.

Sir Alex Ferguson has insisted on only using local, organic soil after attributing Ryan Giggs’ curly chest hair to a particularly good batch of earth.

Since the inception of the Premier League Arsenal has exclusively used the website Gumtree to advertise for all of their players

Gunners midfielder Tomáš Rosický famously signed for the London club after he accidentally happened upon their ‘players wanted’ advert whilst searching the classified site for a replacement rear-wiper blade for his 1998 Hyundai Sonata.

Chelsea assembled much of their 2005/6 Premiership-winning squad from the unsuccessful applicants to Channel 4’s desert island reality television programme Shipwrecked.

And Liverpool’s current squad is entirely made up of discarded public sector managers who are compensated with buttons, small lengths of twine and delicately carved ornate fruit and vegetables, similar to those found in Thai restaurants.

Ian Simms is president of the Manchester United supporters association and spoke to News Manc regarding City’s reported use of financial methods to obtain players.

“It goes against everything the league stands for.”

“When the Premier League was set up everyone agreed that this wasn’t about money, it was about carefully nurturing players in small pots of nutrient-rich soil. Like our ancestors did.”

If City are found guilty their Chief Executive Mark Trimble could be forced to spend the next 12 months on internet forums and social media sites tediously debating what actually constitutes ‘buying a title’.

“To be fair, that does sound a bit harsh”, admitted Simms.

It's a shame they didn't do anything for his last home game really.

Yes it would have been nice if they could have give him a send off after his loyal service to his beloved club.

Arsenal favorites to sign Jan Vertonghen as Gunners move ahead of Spurs in race - @samuelj29060

I've been doing a bit of reading and it seems like Vertonghens a little annoyed with Arsenal. CL set back, CL back on whatever it might be for Arsenal I don't like what I'm reading. We need 3pts against West Brom no excuses.

We need three points. Anything about Vertonghen is speculation. Don't worry about what you're reading, it's very unlikely to have any substance to it. The only people that truly know what's going on are him, his agent and the respective clubs.

Manchester City will win their first title for 44 years with victory against Queens Park Rangers at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday but thorough analysis of every big decision made by officials has revealed that Manchester United should be four points clear and already crowned as champions.

Yes SAF does have a habit of calling the kettle black and yet he does exactly the same thing himself when it suits him.

Well it seem Kenny is being given another chance as Guillem Balague says the owners have decided to keep Dalglish. But they are looking for a DoF.
