Having read your post I thought I would check mine out because I haven't looked at them for over a month now. During summer I had two qam16s and one qam64, then I dropped one of the qam16s so I had one of each and then in November I went back to the original two qam16s. To my surprise I have now got this:

We'll see how long it lasts.

Ah good to see the peering is shot again. Once they fix it things should improve rapidly.

Probably find the ping is fine inside the VM network but goes to poop to certain destinations when it leaves.

Mine sort of works between 10:30 and 14:30. The other week I recorded 153Mb on download using ThinkBroadband and verified on ookla.... just wish VM would get their finger out., This is not a fault as they keep calling it. Its poor network management, totally within their control. One guy on the faults desk actually said it was the fault of customers being too demanding and having too many devices connected :(

When staff have that attitude it will never get fixed, I don't know what BT Infinity is like in Warrington but surely to god it cant be worse than this.

I think they should stop all sales to new customers until they can actually deliver what they promise.

pip08456 17-01-2016 22:26

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

I do know of cases where BT offshore have said the customer has too many devices connected - even when they haven't.

It would appear (though not necessarily true) that offshore are there just to put customers off, not complain and put up with problems.

Yup. It might not be the shub2ac which is doing it. You might find that some upgrade work has been going on and you have been moved to a different line card or port. For donkeys i have used 8 channels between 1-12, last week i saw i was getting tonnes of post rs errors and noticed that i am now in a bonding group in120s-130s.

Ok. Yes on the sh1 I was on 13 to 20, except after a reboot when it would be 17 to 20 and 37 to 40 then switch over. Now it stays on the split channels. No post rs errors though. I have just ordered 200mbit and thought I would take a look at my power levels and stuff before they change me over. Something weird is definitely going on, one of my qam64 upstreams has dropped to 32 and all my downstream post rs errors (of which I should have none) are in the negative.

A VM Tech came out and solved my speed issues with a TCP Optimiser.

But he could not understand the problems I get when I power-up the shub in the morning.

He turned on the 5Ghz wifi so that he could see the connection on his mobile. After it rebooted guess what?

The period of on/off/on/off happens after a reboot of the shub2ac too!

The mess on the right of the graph....

As an alternative, instead of turning the shub off & on, you could get a router with the ability to control the Wireless network availibility at various times of the day/week? Less work for you!

This would give you a stable internet connection (unless there are other underlying line problems)

Tests again this morning show 150dl, 10ul. The connection suddenly went flaky after the tech visit and TCP optimisation, but I found that to be all down to Firefox (random-lockups, slow to connect, etc.) Swapped to Chrome and all is perfect (although Chrome is about to become unsupported for Vista :( ).

The spiky period 18:30-19:30 I'd never seen before.

All the disconnects, etc. around 14:00 were after a reboot of the shub to turn on 5Mhz wifi. First time I'd seen that happen too.

Sounds like it is time to upgrade Windows or the PC considering even Microsoft doesn't actively support Vista anymore.

You could put Windows 10 on there for free if you became a Windows insider.

Think about what you just said for a second.

That said, you did blame VM for making your internet speed slower when you used a dodgy Internet (TCP thing) "accelerator" that put a hard limit on your connection speed (Which is why you shouldn't be messing with these settings to begin with!).

Even if Windows 10 isn't for you, 7 is miles better than Vista and is still supported, so the problems with Chrome (And security going forward) will not exist for a good while at least.

Horse, you're a bumhole.

No particular reason for that, just felt like it.

Quick question how do you get the BQM graph to work with the hub 3?

Currently, you can only do it by disabling the firewall.

Call that a hump.....

According to the VM Forum there are traffic issues on my segment but they are below the threshold for investigation....

Are Virgin having peering issues again? Been getting this hump near enough every day for the last few weeks at peak times. Pretty sure it's not local congestion as get full speed whilst it's happening.

Nothing here, although I very rarely seem to get affacted by these humps when they occur.

My ping seems to have taken a step down (by a little) today but no idea if it'll stick around. I checked the power levels and they appear to have dropped suddenly by 1-2dBmV from 9-10 to around 7-8. Kinda high but it's never really caused any issues with the connection.

What's going on here? Speed tests show a lower speed down and up than usual. I have rebooted the modem and my N66U.

My connection is usually rock-solid (150Meg offering) though the last couple of days have been a bit grim. We had a power cut just before the latest faults, so I'm assuming that its related?

Everything is back to its normal speedy self now though :)
