Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion

I have now reformatted the laptop to a basic windows 8 install but can't access the app store to do the update.

I suspect it's all the people trying to get it ;)

Try again in the morning I guess :)

Took me nearly seven hours to do mine. But I left it downloading overnight whilst sleeping, and just finished it off in about 5 minutes when I woke up.

I got it all working on my laptop in the end but I'm not so sure it'll be going on my main pc any time soon.

Whats the deal with the Start button then? Just takes me to the tiled UI (ex-metro) UI. Wasn't it supposed to give you a complete list of apps now?

move your mouse over it and ' right click ' - why they dont have it more like Windows 7 I just dont know - may be OK on a Smartphone but on a PC its just a right pain in the arse.

I much prefer the new UI and really don't want the start menu back.

Right click on the taskbar choose properties and then click on the navigation tab - what you're after is in the bottom half of that menu.

Nope. But you can 'swipe' down on metro to your apps. Right clicking the start button gives you options too.

It is the extended build number I am looking for :) From what I can see there is no option to upgrade the 8.1 RTM I have been running for ages so it is likely to be the same. The extended number gives the build date and is reachable in reg or by downloading AIDA64 trial ( New name for Everest) :)
