With the technical back-end, including customer authentication, under the command of BAMTech, the technology outfit Disney bought from the MLB for $2.5 billion, and a new base for BAMTech Europe in Amsterdam, Disney has a launching pad for the service on this side of the Atlantic. Having already dabbled in EPL broadcasts in 2010, when it picked up the pieces of the failed Setanta operation, ESPN may well be preparing to try again.

Seems to hint at a ESPN return which I think it more of a possibility for the 2022-25 rights

How would that work if Sky won packages and ESPN won the remainder , if the Disney takeover completed they'd then own all the rights.

That in theory would be a loophole into having all the games using 2 seperate brands as rights holders.

I would be surprised if there was anything bigger than a 10% rise on the current TV deal

Sky and BT are likely to win again when the auction results are revealed next Thursday

Indeed, would be nice if facebook or twitter won 1 package though. Watching for free in 720p or 1080p online would be pretty cool. Amazon would probably increase the amazon prime fee or add a separate fee to watch football. Netflix would probably increase the price or add an addon fee for football.

Well that is the safer bet....this time! But if you're putting money on it, don't take the view that the status quo is a dead cert - it isn't. A surprise could be just around the corner when you least expect it.

I remain of the view that it is the 2022 round of bidding which will see the disruptive bids coming in, though.

Whichever streaming services won, it would have to charge an additional fee for the football.

Can you imagine the panic if they'd all got together and decided enough is enough of this insane merry-go-round and all put a bid of £0.01p. :D

“That is just the Premier League talking up auction prices,”

I don't disagree with that assessment.

Confirmation of the winter olympics availability.

I was surprised to read that the olympics have been pulled from Sky Italia with only one day's notice.
