I have no idea of this, if it is the same as when I worked for o2 when we got briefed on new services some staff said that they were available now when they were not?
I think that it may the the 30th as some think they will launch it then, When they have the thing in London?

Are you looking forward to it or are you a little bit excited?:) I've almost become a little obsessed over this, maybe we should start the M.I.G.F.T.T.D (MENTALLY INSANE GROUP FOR THE TIVO DEPRIVED)!!!!

---------- Post added at 17:22 ---------- Previous post was at 17:18 ----------

The first class will last 4 hours (bring a packed lunch) the 1st part will be torturing a staff member of vm:p::p::p: what shall we do in the 2nd hour? maybe looking at pictures of tivo, or maybe blowing up a home screen menu picture of the tivo and sticking it on our tvs! then we can say we've got one, we really have and inviting all our friends round, and them really looking sorry for us.

It's a update email because they said they'd be in touch before the end of March.

It's to make sure everyone is aware how the ordering process is going to go.

BTW, what progress has been made with the EPG data being corrected for UK services.

I'm seeing "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena" down as a "repeat" despite it being a UK premier. It should have the "new" tag.

If they'd got the ordering information out to us by the end of March (as indicated on the forums), people would be happy, but this 'new plan' will cause a lot of unrest, especially if those few days' turn out to be many.

VM have had time to plan this. Why the delay?

The main reason would be to gauge interest and order enough TiVo's. The pre-regs will be getting a decent deal from what I'm hearing too. ;)

I know it seems like it's been forever waiting for TiVo, and i'm sure I'd be the same!, but it really is almost here for the pre-regs now.

Fair enough, I suppose looking at it from VMs point of view it has been a useful way to estimate demand.

Sorry for the rant DF, nothing personal & I really appreciate your input on the forum. :)

Do you know if the initial email will contain a price or is that to follow in the 2nd email?

I would also be interested in this. I too noticed tonights Spartacus not flagged as new as well as Thursdays V on SyFy.

Add to this that I was watching Comedy Central HD yesterday at 7pm, EPG stated Two and a Half Men about to start and what happened? Scrubs happened

Only had TiVo for a couple of days and its a great STB but they really need to sort out this EPG or at least let us know how to report issues like the above.

I would also like to say that the PQ is definately worse than my old SA V+. SD is noticably worse and HD is also not as good if I'm honest. I am still tinkering with both the TV and the box settings so hopefully things improve.

My Sky+HD box had F1 Australian Grand Prix flagged as not being in HD on Sunday so nothings perfect however the wrong program is a bit worrying.

I wonder if this is why the default setting for series link recordings has changed to 'New & Reruns' (according to the change logs for recent software updates).

That could well be the case but not really a solution, just a work around.

I made the mistake of setting Two and a Half Men on Comedy Central HD to new & reruns and it showed up with about 50 odd recordings seeing as it is on so much

I guess I'll have to live with the odd hiccup until TiVo is more established

I've also had the wrong program record but thankfully it was only a suggestion.

The important thing with this "new and rerun" business is that some shows constantly repeat. So for example Mythbusters on discovery has a couple of repeats a day, so if you set a series link to new and reruns, you have to be constantly deleting stuff you have already seen.

The other worry is that if a show is a UK premier but seen as a rerun by the Tivo Box, will it then flag it as a new series in the suggestions bar ?

It won't record duplicates within 28 days. An alternative is to set a restriction on the number of episodes it keeps, then it will delete the old ones itself.

It SHOULD pick it up as new, but occasionally they get it wrong and put the USA original air date. These issues are being addressed.

I was a pre reg in Dec 2010, i was on here EVERY day for about 2 weeks after that, then christmas came and went, and just nothing seemed to be happening.
From time to time i check in on this thread that is now over 5000 posts long, amd here we are 28th march 2011, still no further forward.
Looking back now, it was NEVER gonna be a end of year install or an "early 2011" launch.
For a product that i was VERY much looking forward to, all of VM's delays and heal dragging, has just made me less bothered about the whole idea of Tivo now!
I love new tech and will be very happy once it does arrive, just feel rather underwhelmed, annoyed and a bit peeved at the hole debacle that is "Virgin Media, powered by Tivo".

Yes, I even booked a week off work next week partially in the plan that there might be an outside chance of an install. It's pretty much the last time I can easily get leave until September as well so if I can't get it installed then it's going to be a real pain in the behind other than a weekend install which won't be in any demand at all I am sure...

let's say you set it to keep 10 episodes. let's say Discovery are showing 1 old series and 1 new series of Mythbusters but without the new series being correctly flagged in the EPG.

Does the box have the intelligence to keep 10 of the newer series and delete the episodes of the older series, or does it just keep the last 10 recordings chronologically ?

If the latter is true, then your suggestion does not provide a workaround.

Hopefully this will be fixed sooner rather than later, in the mean time it would be nice if VM would provide somewhere for us to report EPG data issues and ensure they are fixed quickly.

Perhaps you have to sign in to My Virign Media to order and as there have been so many problems they have delayed by a few days to make sure it's all up and running. Can just imagine the uproar if the ordering process went wrong!

Or perhaps the box has still got plenty of bugs that need ironing out before a mass launch.

Bofrok 28-03-2011 22:27

Bugs! Surely not ;) But a possibility, there's a big difference releasing it to those of us who have been following it's progress and to Virgin customers who may only have seen some press info.

If the latter is true, then your suggestion does not provide a workaround.

It is the last 10 chronologically. Whether that's acceptable depends how quickly you watch things, or if you don't mind if an unwatched episode gets deleted sometimes. Personally I have far more recorded than I'll ever get time to watch, so I've always got something to watch when I want to.

Re: TiVo

I have just checked my bill and realised I have been charged twice for my TiVo

The TiVo team called me on 14th February and I paid £149 via debit card over the phone to pay for the box and arrange an install date for 5th March. My bill also shows a TiVo 1TB Box Activation Fee of £149 dated 5th March.

Was I scammed by paying the original fee over the phone by debit card as I thought Virgin would not add it on to an account? Of course I have no record of making the first payment to the TiVo team in Manchester just an entry on my online banking of "Virgin Media Pymnts" of 14th Feb for £149

You should find a credit for £149 on the bill too. Or on the previous bill

Just signed up for e-billing to compare and you are correct and this month's bill of £149.03 covers two months. Last month was a credit of -£76.04 and here is me thinking I was debited that amount last month, I'm sitting at my keyboard fuming with rage and fury. This e-billing lark is showing me up. :dunce:
I blame the TiVo, it is recording so many hidden gems for me that I'm not going to bed at a sensible time and I'm losing my marbles. Must get some sleep zzzz

Signed into email today and see 2 emails from Virgin and get very excited.

1. - We want to get to know you better or something. Basically tick these subjects you are interested in and we will keep you up to date etc. WTF???? Do they not know there are more important emails from Virgin we are expecting? Also there was a customer offers/news section so I expect to see a Tivo update soon after ticking that.

2. - Was my usual bill :o(

So we are now March 29th with no Tivo email and in my case no news on the VIP revamp so they have 2 days left until I make contact with them if I don't hear about both of those items.

All pre-regs should get an email by Thursday... a further mail will then be sent to invite you to order online in the following days.

https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2011/03/20.gif

If you look up arse covering in the dictionary it has this as an example.
They did say we would hear by April, although we may not be able to order until May. LOL!!!

I know Tivo has a 10mb modem.

In addition to being an XL TV subscriber is there any requirement to be a VM broadband customer to have Tivo?

Someone on DS seems to think there is but I have never read that, he has probably been given duff info by CS.

That's much as I thought, I just read the thread again and the poster says he called back CS and he was again told he does have to get at least 10mb broadband for Tivo.

Maybe it's just general CS staff are not upto speed yet which is understandable.

Can we put this back in to perspective?:soapbox:

Whilst the communication has been poor well p**s poor actually!
And the lead time seems to get looooonger every day.
VM have actually played a very good game....

They have got tens of thousands of customers to register interest and then drip feed info keeping 99% keen and building anticipation ok a small percentage have become somewhat less than happy and a few toys have been thrown out of a few prams.

In doing so they have gauged interest and had the opportunity to build stock of TiVo STB in readiness for the roll out. They have committed to all pre regs having the opportunity to order ahead of the main consumer launch.

How you view the 2 x 1000 customer draws I guess depends on whether you won a TiVo or not...

Ok sending out 1000 remote handsets with no prior notification of the draw or how the lucky 1000 were selected may not win any prizes for marketing promos but it did stir up interest in the product and got people talking about TiVo, The second draw which people were invited to enter by random mail out or the on screen pop up seems to have engendered a lot of " I wasn’t mailed out " comments , I didn’t get a draw ticket but I did see that infernal pop up repeatedly so did enter via that route.

TiVo is a great piece of kit - its not perfect (No red Button etc) but when you have it, you will love it.:woot:

VM have not scammed you, taken cash from you or reduced your services they simply have asked you if you’re interested in TiVo and then kept you waiting....

Let’s put it in perspective.....

As you read this ...

There are 10's of thousands of people in Japan trying to piece there lives together post quake/Tsunami.

There are countless numbers of people in other countries at risk of diseases that medicines costing pence could save.

There are lads getting killed in Afghanistan.

There are Medics risking there own lives to save others in Afghanistan.

There are jet jockeys :waving:risking life over Libya.

All these things are life or death
Having to wait for TiVo may seem it but its not Life or death really!

Yeah I risk being shot down in flames but hey I do that every day in the skies....

This is a forum about VM, not a general discussion forum; you get enthsiasts here; it's normal for such a forum as this. Just because you enthuse about something doesn't mean you don't have it in prspective to other word wide events.

I some times wonder ...;)

Certain posters seem to have lost sight of the fact !

Yes WE are enthusiasts but for some people the opportunity to flame VM is bigger than the opportunity to aquire TiVo !

And it wasnt "moral preachy " it was demonstrative evidence that certain people have lost perspective !.:D

Do you only have a TiVo box or have you got multi-room from VM?

We have the multi-room with our old V+HD box in up stairs now, but it's in a bedroom and not idea at all for a family viewing experience, lol.

I wish it had been explained that Tivo didn't offer Box Offive before hand. It wasn't even hinted at. We were told about the lack of 3 tuners when it was installed - which was fixed the next day, lol - but nothing about Box Office.

You should have been told, I totally agree.

I know it's not ideal, but can you not swap the boxes over for the event?

Yeah, we are looking into doing that. After the event and when I look back, it probably won't even seem like a big deal and I am just ranting out of frustration but we won a Tivo box free for a year as part of the 1,000 winners thing but we still pay out general monthly Virgin fee and it seems now like we are getting less for what we paid than we did last month.

Hopefully the old V+ box will just connect properly without any different cables or something.

Just HDMI and cable input on both. Is the V+HD box connected to a HD TV?
