Too many icons! I notice you have your Taskbar showing as well - tsk! ;-D

Hint: you can hide all your icons by right clicking on your desktop, going to Active Desktop, selecting Show Web Content and deselecting Show Desktop Icons - at least, that's how it works in W2K and I think it's the same in XP. You can do a similar thing in W98.

I put all my icons on taskbars and hide them, as well, so I have a _completely_ clean desktop but can access everything with a single click (the taskbars reveal themselves, of course, when you move the cursor over them). If you enable the Desktop toolbar, for instance, it'll have all your desktop icons on it. You can drag toolbars to any side of the screen that doesn't have a proprietary toolbar/taskbar on it (a lot of those won't share), but Windows toolbars can share.

Gotta get hip! B-)

All you have done is rearrange your multitude of desktop icons.

Have a look at add/remove programs and check when you actually used some of those shortcuts?
