Don't understand this Draxler story. Surely we're well stocked with midfielders at this point. I know the rumour is Wenger would turn him into a forward but that takes time. If we get Draxler it would be a longer term signing surely...

Could Arsenal afford not to snap up a quality talent? I wouldn't be surprised if Rues is all but signed up as well. Both seem to be said as massive Gooners.

I was under the impression that Mata was a very intelligent guy, done or doing a degree course etc, but honestly they do spout some real carp at times.

Juan Mata hopes his new shirt number will bring him good luck: “I think no.8 is a great number. I was speaking with David [Moyes] about it and we decided eight is a good number for me.”

For upwards of £20 million to a team not in your league? It doesn't get any better than that. It's not like there's a gap either, we have plenty of midfielders. How time has gone by since selling Carroll (The only good striker on the books at the time)

If they get a replacement then cool but I don't really care at this point. I'm sure our scouting department will think of something.

See above re points. that said, I thought he could buy out his contract for £6m...so in the end, £20m is a good deal.

Nope, I see a summer deal for Remy Cabella but I can sympathise with the board for a change, Newcastle have plenty of options (not as good as cabaye) but not as bad as the Carroll nonsense. There's the options of Siem De Jong and as above, Cabella in the summer window in which both will be helped by the likely sale of Pa**** Cisse and not to mention the permanent signing of Luuk De Jong to conclude. Price for all three £20-£30 million against £25 million (Cabaye) and anywhere between £5-£8 million (Cisse)

Expected Newcastle team for the rest of the season:Ben Arfa, Sissoko, Tiote, Gouffran, Remy, De Jong

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window

All reds last night were red. Even if Remy didn't catch him he's still leading with his head the idiot. Mike Williamson was lucky to escape one too.

Norwich were outplayed and battered at home yet somehow didn't concede. Best Newcastle performance of the season despite the sale of Cabaye. I have confidence this French team are finally getting to grips with the league and clearly have much more confidence than they've ever had. Our passing game is great now and that means a lot when we used to usually come out of every game with the least possession and awful passing. I believe it can still only get better for us, the fans ranting about Cabaye can be such naysayers sometimes. £25 million for a player that's played 1 and a half good seasons out of a possible three, it's great business. Sammy Ameobi got his chance and looked brilliant, such speed and skill for a bloke of that height. Ben Arfa will get yet another chance to prove his worth or he'll be off in the summer. Luuk De Jong will start against Sunderland this Saturday and what a debut it would be if he scored the winner.

Nope.

Why not? You don't want to win the league?

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window

Yes but I expect Man City and Chelsea to win tonight.

Very poor decision from the linesman in the city game there, he clearly got the ball!

I wouldn't say that. Long way to go, and lots of key games.

But i will say that this season could be one of the best.

I'm gutted that West Ham didn't win, but loving Man City tonight. Finally someone has knocked Wenger off his perch :) made my night that has. Sorry Arsenal fans.

Mourinho is just a wind-up merchant and the press love him for it. Just funny really, part of the show. :D He knows Chelsea have been criticised for the same tactics after all. ;)

Yes they may well love him to get their wage but I get nothing but annoyance. Bore off. Plus more bad press for Wenger. That in my opinion isn't fair.

So another day of everyone rubbishing the Draxler rumours. Another set of back pages tomorrow saying the deal is almost done. Someone is set to look stupid on Saturday morning.

At 100% West Ham's attempts to attempts on target is far superior to Chekski's. :)

Remember that was with Mancini at the helm and methinks the same mistakes won't be made twice.:)

Black Cats seal Scocco deal

Argentinian signs two-and-a-half-year contract on Wearside.

Sunderland have sealed a fourth January transfer with the arrival of Argentinian international forward Ignacio Scocco.

The 28-year-old, who has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal, arrives from South American club Internacional for an undisclosed fee.

Born in Hughes, Argentina, Scocco emerged with Newell’s Old Boys in his homeland and won an Apertura championship with the club in 2004.

After moving on to Mexican side Pumas UNAM – scoring 18 league goals in 53 appearances – Scocco headed to Europe to join AEK Athens in 2008.

He scored 28 league goals – including a number of spectacular strikes – for the Greek club, making 88 appearances in all.

A stint in the Middle East with Al-Ain followed, before a successful spell back in Argentina with Newell’s in 2012-13 yielded 24 goals in 33 league appearances.

Scocco, who joined Internacional in June 2013, has been capped once by his country, marking his debut with two goals against Brazil in November 2012.
