Re: What have you just bought?

Over the past week or two I've been (sort of) playing my guitars (6 string & bass) using headphones through the output socket of my old Zoom effects unit . .

It just isn't good enough, so today I decided a new amp was the only decent thing to do ;)

Home playing only, and capable of being used with both guitars, I've splashed out on a Peavey Vypyr VIP 2 . . . . being stuck indoors is getting expensive :D

Have you looked in the bulk buy section assuming your Tesco Extra has one. Ours is selling multi packs of 3. Loads in stock but no individual bottles on the shelves.

New vacuum as old one started to produce a strong electrical smell. It was fairly old and been duck taped in places. Wife wanted a corded upright even though cylinders are more highly rated so gone for a slightly older Shark model that's rated well by Which?

Wanted to get a pasta maker but the one book marked on Amazon is now out of stock and 3rd party sellers want £30 more than Amazon. Save money.

All you need to make pasta is a bowl and a rolling pin.

I’ve been trying to buy a webcam all week but it’s proving surprisingly difficult to find any of the reasonably priced, slightly sub-£80 ones in stock anywhere.

At the moment I’m using the Epocam HD app on my iPhone to run that as a webcam for my Mac Mini, and it works reasonably well as long as you don’t want to switch, for example, between cam and window broadcast in Facebook live. The app loses connection with the app it’s meant to be feeding and won’t reconnect without being quit and restarted on the phone.

A bowl is not really necessary. But you will need flour, plus perhaps eggs, salt and oil (depending on the type). ;)

You can still buy directly from Logitech but there is an up to 14 day order processing delay.

Half shoulder of lamb, bone in pork shoulder for Easter weekend. Looking for some exercise equipment at not silly prices but not too much luck. Got a little 1kg and 3 kg hand weights, 10kg sack with later delivery - still waiting but I know a little about the supplier and their problems.

A new vacuum cleaner - the last one started to emit strong electrical smell and was well over 10yrs old. Got an older model Shark using Which? reviews but wife isn't that happy. She says the balance is wrong but it does suck properly. It's a lot quieter than the Dyson. Now she's found that an old model Dyson would only be a little more expensive.

Climbing the walls though. Must be good exercise. :D

Mother-in-law has just bought cheap festival tents for our kids, seeing as we can't go away for our long Easter weekend to the seaside flat as we normally would this week. They arrived via courier from whatever online emporium she used, and yesterday I mowed the back lawn in preparation for the great garden sleep-out, probably tomorrow as the weather forecast is better.

Missus and I are going to run a book between us on who gives up and comes in at what time.

I dunno, Leicestershire Police caught a man speeding on the M1, and the excuse he gave was bread was £1 a loaf cheaper in London..

I can't drive, but even if I could, not sure I'd drive 120 miles to save so little.

Besides, while I don't know Nottingham prices, I doubt London is cheaper.

The last thing I bought, besides cleaning products? An Oculus Quest VR headset. Not, strictly speaking, necessary, but we went in to lockdown nearly two weeks before the country did (my niece had a high temperature, but showed no other symptoms, and has since recovered so I think it was just a bug). I think the VR headset will help with the boredom. Sadly out of stock everywhere, but Scan appear to think they will be getting stock on the 28th. Not sure if they will, but I've ordered it.

This is also the reason I get angry when I see the video of people having fun in the parks when they are told they should. I've followed the rules, and been in lockdown for 5 weeks. They aren't following the rules, have been in lockdown for 3 weeks, and because of them, we are all likely to be in lockdown longer.

Sorry but that shows a little naivety. We were always going to be placed in lockdown for more than three weeks regardless of if a portion of society decided not to follow the rules.

You can't just say to the population en masse that they will be locked down for 6,9 or 12 weeks there would be immediate civil unrest.

I believe the lockdown is 6 months with 3 weekly reviews. But that's for another thread.

My FastFret arrived yesterday well short of the 24 April expected date, still waiting for some exercise gear.

Not yet, Game did have stock yesterday but gone now. They are just really hard to get hold of at a normal price.

Got the starter bundle for £199.85 Inc delivery from Simply Games. Not allowed to play it till my birthday next Friday though.

Probably yes. We're not really near anyone but the curtain twitcher brigade will probably be able to see it when it's up at treetop level as some of the trees are approaching 80 ft tall now.

Being a PPL(A) holder it won't look to good being nobbled for flying an unlicensed drone ;)

SWMBO used the dog clipping set on me. She had had enough of me looking like a ‘homeless terrorist’ apparently.

A Echo Dot (3rd Gen) - Smart speaker with Alexa as one of our family asked us to order it on our Amazon Prime account for them.

You will find it comes pre-registered to your Amazon account in that case. Be sure they set it up properly and it doesn’t retain the ability to purchase amazon goods on your account. ;)

That's probably why they asked them to order it :erm: :)

Re: What have you just bought?

I think you had to select the option to have your account pre-registered on it. I got one recently and it was an option then.

Chris 06-05-2020 12:21

Re: What have you just bought?

There is an option, but every time we’ve bought an Amazon device (1 fire stick, 4 kindle fires, one Echo and 3 Echo dots, most recently in January) that option has been preselected so you would have to remember to uncheck it to have it delivered non-registered.

Perhaps if you select the gift option at checkout that might not be the case though?

When it arrived, there was an extra 50ml miniature in one* of the boxes - result! :)

*the other box is still sealed, as it will be a gift for a relative who also likes single malts.

Hoping to buy a new mattress. I've been looking at a Simba or Emma. Simba is looking better but more pricey.

We looked at those and also rem-fit and Otty

Picked up a refurbed otty from the manufacturer on eBay for just under £200

Great mattress and would highly recommend if you’re looking for a mattress on the firmer side

Just bought my first ever Soundbar/Sub for £120 from Amazon Italy, seemed like a bargain as the UK price is £250, hopefully it won't be too big and will sound ok on voice.

We have bought a few things before from Amazon America as they are so much cheaper over there then they are in Blighty.

If it's electrical and from the USA make sure it's suitable for use on our mains ~230vac

Most electronics is universal (100 - 240vac) these days but other things may not be.

Google Translate should turn it from Italian into English for you SnoopZ.

Re: What have you just bought?

If someone in the know can tell me the best way to connect it up for use with a PS4 Pro, Amazon Firestick and Virginbox that would be great as i am clueless if i can do it with just one cable from the Soundbar to the KS9000 TV, the model is HW-R450.

edit

I'm guessing probably a Digital Optical Cable is the way to go?
