Sounds like a repull is needed. If you feel you are getting nowhere then may I suggest posting on our Community Forum? The 2nd line TV guys monitor that forum and can access your account. We (VM Staff) can't on here for data protection reasons.

Thanks Digital. The TiVo lass that I spoke to last night (eventually and after 40 mins on the phone to India) suggested a repull and apparently she's putting her suggestion on the engineers job sheet. We'll see if anything gets sorted then

Sony channel would be a good addition.

I was hoping you would stay away from this thread but how is the launch of a few SD channels in any way related to Virgin having the capacity to launch up to 80 HD channels?

I wonder who he could be talking about ????

Hi Media Boy, Strange question to ask but, when channels launch on VM, are there certain dates or times of the month they launch or days. And how long does it take from 'testing' on VM to launch.

They normally, but not always, appear in the early hours of Wednesday and Friday mornings.

What happens if you get an 'indian' who works in a UK call centre?

Borderline racism IMO

Racism???? What utter rubbish!

I myself have been frustrated, not at the call centre staff themselves, but at VM insistence of having their call centres based outside the UK. On more than one occasion I've had to ask technical questions and talking to someone over a time delayed line when their first language may not be English is time consuming and frustrating. I've never been rude to the staff as, I repeat, they are just employees of VM and it's VM's fault.

Racism is a horrible accusation to throw at someone willy-nilly.

My better half phone Virgin Mobile to see about upgrading our daughter's phone as a little surprise. Wife is main account holder and daughter has a basic payg attached to the main account.

After getting the information she asked for she asked for time to think about the options and to discuss with me.

Half an hour later the Pushy Indian Lady phoned my 10 year old daughter direct.!!!

I suspect the whole Christmas, surprise thing went over the lady's head because of cultural differences. I doubt if that would have happened with an operator based in the UK, no matter what their background.

I agree the process when speaking to agents in non-uk call centres can be frustrating.

However, the way Richard expressed his view is not really acceptable. The fact that an official CF Moderator has edited the post to a more suitable term is enough for me to stand by my post.

neilo 09-12-2011 19:58

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.

The reason why call centres in India are not that big a hit with people in the UK is just down to the fact that the more successfully two people communicate with each other on any given topic (normally but not always), directly correlates to how great a match there is between them on ALL of the following:

1) Knowledge of the subject
2) Aptitude
3) Personality
4) Life experiences
5) Cultural background

The problem is that people in India don't match with people in UK on numbers 4 and 5. However, when I have spoken to Indian people in the UK, things are usually very good because they have more of a match with me on all the above. It's not racism, it's just problems with communication.

So...... Sky Sports red button coming to TiVo anytime soon then?

I would be prepared to speak to him/her if they could speak English properly and knew what they were talking about.

I have no interest in your opinions on racism, besides, this is not the appropriate thread for you to air them.

The OP did prefix the question with "... off topic ..." and a couple of succinct, relevant replies, ideally from VM staff or customers with prior experience, would have been sufficient. It was not an invitation to start a discussion on the frustrations of dealing with customer service staff, based anywhere and of any ethnic background, who have neither the language skills nor the technical knowledge to execute their duties. That's either for a dedicated thread or complaints via direct contact with the company.

So the banks and insurance companies advertising 'UK only call centres' are being racist, then?

It is not unreasonable (or racist) for customers to expect to deal with people who can communicate with them on their own terms.

And what does it say about companies who evidently put doing things on the cheap, above providing an acceptable and respectful service to their customers?

I like Hustle but otherwise a little underwhelmed by Sony. That said, TiVo will pick out the best bits for me, and I've now been on cable for just over a year. When I joined and subscribed to TV XL I think I was told I'd have over 165 channels. In a year they've added at least ten. For nothing.

Any idea if we'll also get access to Sony's on demand stuff? This is currently available on Bt Vision.

from wiki The channel is aimed at women aged between 25 and 54 and broadcasts a range of dramas and comedies, including Hawthorne, Huff and 'Til Death.[4] Sony Entertainment Television also brings UK series Hustle and Hotel Babylon, along with the last ever season of Las Vegas and reruns of Crossing Jordan, Dawson's Creek, My Boys, Ned & Stacey and NewsRadio.[5] It also shows movies from SPT's sister company Sony Pictures Entertainment, such as The Da Vinci Code, All the King's Men, Marie Antoinette and Philadelphia. From September Holby City will begin airing on Sony Entertainment Television.

It doesn't tell me, unfortunately just that there is a 4th stream currently being tested. In the past it would tell me if its an hd channel testing by changing the description in the corner, but this time it hasn't. My best guess is that it will be another channel but only in SD.

My hunch is that it could be CBS Drama because Virgin have nearly every significant SD channel there is already so there are not many that they have not got now.

Who is Arthur ?

I would never want that channel.

I would also not want Sky News HD

I think the 4th channel testing is CBS Drama or Sony TV +1.

:D

Hi guys, done some more 'digging' around and virgin seem to split their test transmissions into certain sections of the epg. I just took one test stream and it was testing among skys hd movie channels. It didn't tell me what it was and there was no picture, but this could be the 4th channel, one in HD?
