Fantastic that Virgin are releasing fixes so regularly, and even more impressive is they are telling exactly what is being fixed. So many places now just say "stability or perfeormance improvements", so credit to VM for that.

Are Thursdays going to be the usual day for software drops or are the last two just coincidence?

Yeah they seem to be doing a great job and as you say giving a change-log is exactly the way it should be done.

The painintheproverbial PIN's worse than it was before the update.

I was asked for it when I watched last weekend's rugby - which was definitely on before 10 P.M.

Software updates generally happen on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday morning. But don't expect one every week!

Don't like the LED's on in standby. Much better to just go completely blank. But other changes are good.

Still need to sort out the SCART problems though.

It's a safety thing. You need a visible indication that the box is powered.

It also helps identify the cause of "total loss of service" faults.

I think the lights on the front is a good thing, especially the recording lights. The light I do think they could do without when on standby is the green connection light. I could see that causing confusion with some people.

If you see the light is absent, you know that your TiVo isn't connected to the network for whatever reason. Handy! My Samsung V+ green light has always been handy for me whenever my internet decides to cut out (rare, thankfully), as then I know whether it's the network or just the Super Hub.

He worked for Sky for a very long time. He pioneered the Sky+ that screwed TiVo over in the first place. I would hope he would be objective, but it depends on how much brand loyalty he carries around with him. He will still have a lot of friends at Sky, you always do when you work for someone for that length of time.

But lovefilm hsve said they want to be available via as many connected devices as possible. That's their policy; a new recruit's personl likes/dislikes won't alter that.

Nice work there! I shall have to get on my Tivo when I get in and check it out!

I will also test (unless somebody already knows) whether it is possible to be recording three things at once and watch a 4th using the BBC iplayer app. I would presume this would use the built in modem rather than any of the tuners?

Hmmm:
http://www.fool.com/investing/genera...ame-buyer.aspx
Quote:

This week, well-known hedge fund Citadel Investment Group disclosed it had taken a 5.3% stake in digital video recorder maker TiVo (Nasdaq: TIVO ) . Yes, that's the same TiVo that reported a loss per share that tripled from last year to $0.30 per share.

So what is Citadel doing buying a company that has issues up the wazoo? There are a few things Citadel may be thinking.

TiVo's IP is more valuable than anyone else thinks - TiVo is an intellectual property company if nothing else. The company has 196 patents issued and another 371 applications outstanding. And TiVo has been rigorously litigating competitors it thinks are infringing.

TiVo has patent infringement lawsuits outstanding with EchoStar (Nasdaq: SATS ) , Verizon (NYSE: VZ ) , AT&T (NYSE: T ) , and Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT ) , along with counterclaims outstanding for the last three. Not exactly a great list of enemies. But winning these cases can be lucrative, like when TiVo won a case against EchoStar in 2008, which paid out $104.6 million.

At the very least, Citadel must think the expense TiVo is incurring to prosecute and defend these cases will be worth it and there will be some upside in the future.

But as with any legal spat, there is downside risk. DISH Network (Nasdaq: DISH ) is also suing TiVo in another patent infringement case. Citadel's lawyers must be pretty confident in the merits of all of these cases because litigation is getting awfully expensive and the opposition has very deep pockets.

TiVo users, you lucky people. Random and VERY narrow interest enquiry to follow.

I noticed there was a specific button on the iPlayer app for BBC Alba. The iPad version of the app allows you to watch the channel live, does the TiVo allow you to do this?

Narrow interest I know but I'm from the Isle of Lewis and I'm keen to get BBC Alba , which has been long rumoured but not forthcoming on Virgin

iPlayer App is catch up only

Doesn't make much sense to offer Live TV when they are on the normal service (although appreciate that BBC Alba isn't at the moment)

When I get my call/email sometime next week for TiVo, what are my options and costings involved with regards to having my current V+ box relocated to another room?

I'm on VIP50 so that would then become my third box if that makes any difference to the price?

Would it be cheaper to swap it for a standard V-HD box?

The V+ box which my TiVo will be replacing is currently selected to receive Sky Sports & Movies HD. Will this licence automatically be transferred to TiVo when it's installed?

All the best,

Danny

Maybe you should consider Freesat. You can enter any UK postcode to access local services. It depends just how important BBC Alba is to you I suppose.

Here this is from a e-mail that i received a while ago:

It has been confirmed today, that if a VIP 50 customer who takes TiVo in their main room and wishes to keep their V+ box in their second room (returning the V HD) - they will incur no additional cost.

You will only be charged £10/month extra if you keep both your existing boxes after the TiVo box is installed i.e. you have 3 boxes (The TiVo, V+ and V HD)

Hope this helps?

Re: TiVo

Has it been answered what happens if someone currently has two V+ (on VIP 20) and replaces one of them with a Tivo? Would I actually be making a saving considering that the second box costs the £10 pm? i.e. going from £10pm for second box to £3 pm?

Good news!Yes you would not be charged the £10 extra. I had the same and my bill has gone down £10(I got tivo free)

That's a bit different though isn't it as effectively you've only got one box. The tivo one is free and the V+ one is part of your package. In this situation I guess it depends on whether they class the tivo as the primary or secondary box.

Great - I'm on VIP50 with 2 V+HD boxes, so if Tivo gives me a £7.00 credit,
(saving £10 add box - less £3 Tivo), then I'm definitely in!!

Perhaps Ben could confirm

Re: TiVo

I am on VIP50 with a Tivo, V+HD and activated VHD and pay (pre april changes) £106 a month. They are basically charging me an extra £5.60 for the VHD box, as well as the £3 extra for the Tivo box. I believe my bill goes up to £110ish after April.

I don't know the specific charges but thought my situation might help to decode the VM billing mysteries!

VIP 50 with 2 V+ and basic box. Would I be charged £7 less if Tivo replaced the basic box?

I had the same as you, 2 V+ and a basic box.

I now have 2 Tivos and 1 V+.

My monthly bill has gone down by £7.

I would take what he says with a pinch of salt.

Re: TiVo

Well I had my email last month saying I would be contacted late March on how I could order Tivo since had pre-registered last December. So only another 3 days maximum then otherwise it will be egg on the faces of VM and they will be getting a call this Friday if nothing is received! Comments have been posted here to say they are still due to issue these emails, so I do actually expect it to arrive; not long now.

However, I’ve heard it said you can book your install date. That could be interesting, as I can hear now “ the earliest date I can book an install is in July, shall I go ahead sir?!!!!” We’ll all be posting here to find out who has the earliest install. Hope VM has expanded the number of trained installation engineer for this launch!

The rollout is not being done area-by-area, though there may be restrictions from time to time due to staff and STB availability.

There are already plenty installed in the Wolverhampton area (and every other area)

edit: Hey, I've got a silver star :)
