Seems a bit off BT have produced a TV advert stating Virgin customers will not get ESPN. I know things change all the time but surely they would not have done this if a deal was close.

Either it means included free (as part of a package) or we are literally not getting ESPN.

I've not seen this ad is there a link, I'd be gutted to lose MLB

In the ad, it is Jake Humphrey saying that VM will lose ESPN in August, and therefore is urging you go sign up.

I still consider this is as a strategy from BT and am still confident that ESPN will remain on VM.

Sky Sports extends Football League TV deal to 2018

BT missed out on this one and Sky not only get an extra 37 games they also get to call it the Sky Bet Championship, that's a big finger up to BT, it's war!

Just the fact that BT aren't bothering with it on DTT combined with the fact it isn't called BT Sport 3, I'm thinking they are classing ESPN as a 'bonus' thing that can only be viewed on Infinity (or Sky).

I hope I'm wrong though.

They didn't miss out, the rights were never offered for sale to anyone but Sky.

You know that for sure? Surely the league want as much money as possible and would put it to tender, seems odd but stranger things have happened I suppose.

I think SKY still had a couple of years left on their existing deal. It looks like SKY approached them with improved terms, to secure a new longer running deal. For all we know there might have been something in the original agreement allowing SKY to renegotiate the deal after 36 months.

We've seen the rise and fall of ITV Digital, Setanta Sports and ESPN. Who knows BT might lose their Premiership rights in a few years time, forcing them to scrap the sports channel. A 5 year deal with a broadcaster you know will be around in 2018 would have been too good for the Championship to turn down.

I can now reveal that the announcement I was on about on Monday was the BT Sports announcement.

But I was told 'not to post' this announcement until 3.20pm today.

MB, do you know when BT/VM will announce this? :)
