I was going to try the test but will need to get an eye patch, I can have my left eye closed and my right open, but i can't have my right closed and my left open for some reason I find it impossible to do! Does this have anything to do with the dominant eye?

Nah, the original reason for a belly button (although this is obviously now out of date) is somewhere to keep the salt in when you eat crisps in bed.

For the life of me, I can't remember who originally proposed this totally plausible explanation.
