Re: FTTP who to buy it from - Recommendations please
Another couple questions, when Openreach pull the cable and fit the ONT inside the house do they also connect it up to the modem and test it out or is that upto me to wait for it to go live after he's left?
Can anyone please provide a photo of what I should expect in the way of an ONT box inside the house, I'm hoping it'll be one little box next to a mains socket but a Google search leaves me unsure. |

Is the router a self install?

Otherwise they will check they will check the connection to the head end. The ONT (modem) is about 3"x 3". https://www.cableforum.uk/board/atta...6&d=1769169363 |

The ONT has a power supply with a fairly short cable. probably less than a metre so if possible get them to install near a mains socket though i suppose you could use an extension cable to get juice to it. |

You're welcome, you will get a router allredy configured for you ISP (other settings may be avaiklable to you). The ONT is also what you call a Mo0dem or acts in the same way, it changes the light signal into an electrical one that the router can understand.

All very interesting thanks all.
I remember reading that you had to wait a while for a connection to settle once switched on with older broadband, is it the same with FTTP? |

Openreach will test the fibre connection to the ONT is working. You will have to connect your router into the ONT's ethernet port. |
Re: FTTP who to buy it from - Recommendations please
As per others, it'll just work from the get go.
Good engineering practice however is to ensure a good light reading before syncing the ONT. Generally check whether the light is between the required range of -13db to -27db whilst a lot of testing is carried out during build, you still want to eliminate a bad splice somewhere from the house to the CBT splice at the node. What ONT you get depends on the headend rack at the exchange. Adtran ONTs only function with Adtran racks. Huawei, Nokia and Zyxel all function interconnected. Huawei is being phased out and the standard install now appears to be leaning towards the 2.5g ONTs across the board. The Nokia and Adtran offerings basically just look like the one Pip posted above. The Zyxel ones on the otherhand are big units (Below article is old and Zyxels are now in the network) https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.ph...and-lines.html |

My unit looks pretty different. Had it for 5 years when the house was built.
