I did. I watched a video on YouTube too. I like the hive. It just seems a lot more going on with the hive. It'll be funny if the gas man turns up with your pick  I don't care tbh I want something that tells the temperature and can easily be navigated.

If he turns up with a Hive he will be asking where your broadband hub is where he can plug it in. Lol

I have internet when I'm home

https://www.cableforum.uk/board/show...php?t=33713484

Just not when I'm out. My other devices don't suffer from this set up. My soundbars connect no issue on and off. A smart thermostat should be ok..

If he can plug the hub in to your home router you should be ok, I'm not sure if the hub is wireless.

You will need a control unit hard wired I think, they put one in my airing cupboard replacing my honey well controller but I only ever look at the lights on it and control everything from my phone.

Did you specifically ask for a Hive? I hope you did if you want one.

This is what I have which is specific for a system boiler setup.

I don't mind what I get if I'm honest because I know very little about these devices. If the gas man turns up with a keep it simple stupid smart thermostat I'll be equally as happy as getting an all bells and whistles flagship device.

I asked for the best so it'll be interesting what he decides. I did say all bells and whistles. He took a quick look at my set up, asked me some questions then off he went happy as a Larry.

Questions,
Are you getting heat
Are you adjusting the trv
Is the water ok
Heating generally working away from the thermostat issue
Radiators getting hot
Temperature of the heating on the boiler

All of which I could answer phew! I told him no to another dial thermostat. So that's definitely not happening.

I like that display you have. Very nice :tu:

Did he not ask you on cost? He's not going to buy a really expensive smart thermostat in case you have a heart attack on the price and fitting costs, so he will likely just get you a Honeywell digital without a dial and you will be happy.

I said the best with all the bells and whistles which means a flagship device but it could also mean his judgement based on his experience so yeah could mean something less expensive

If it was me I'd contact him and say you want a Hive if that's what you really want because it's your house, your money and your choice not his.

Btw the Hive has an Away mode so before you go to Brighton if you know what time you're expected to return you can make it so it goes off when you leave and switch on before you get home, this means you don't need to control it when out of the house.

If he turns up and installs a medical thermometer a bell and a whistle don't blame him. Lol you really need to tell him what you want because it's like me asking for a games console and getting an original Atari 2600 delivered instead of a PS5 Pro. Hehe

How about I take you to the vet who'll stick a thermometer up your arse

One of my elderly neighbours had a new gas boiler fitted. It came with a remote control box that was hung on a wall. It acted as timer, thermostat and override.

She did not get on with it at all. All she wanted was a thing that she could turn on and off manually, and set the temperature.

The installer swapped it for a device similar to the DT4, and she was chuffed.

How did you know taf  he turned up with a DT4 thermostat in white. Also a ST9100C timer. During install he found that the wires were too short so he's handed the job over to an electrician. The old thermostat has been put back.

The DT4 is effectively an industry standard these days. Have fun reading the manual, and then ignoring 99% of it. This link is far easier to read than the insert in the box:
