If somebody puts themselves in the public eye and their actions contradict what they say, then they should be criticised. Eg He might be "retiring" from public duties, but she has shown that she has always been determined to seek attention. How are the 2 visits she made while in Canada retiring from the public gaze? Her actions speak louder than her words.
