Re: Just got the SuperHub 3
hmmm maybe I should cancel the planned engineer visit on Wednesday then, because it appears there is nothing the engineer can achieve by visiting me until the firmware is deployed from the techies at the backend. Power levels could be adjusted but results would be hidden until the firmware is updated so no point in doing that yet.
Thanks for letting me know that much at least... saves me taking half a day off work. |

He could swap your sh3 for a sh2

Re: Just got the SuperHub 3
On the general subject of switching between SSIDs I normally have the SH2 with 2.4 and 5Ghz as the same SSID, then at the other end of the house a DIR-655 again using the same SSID. In the interests of experimentation I have just given them all different names...
On a Windows laptop I set the roaming aggressiveness to the maximum, and connected to SH2 SSID 1 at 300Mbps. Then I walked to the other end of the house and placed the laptop next to the DIR-655. By then the SSID 1 connection had dropped to 13Mbps, but it still didn't switch. Switched Wifi off/on and of course it immediately picked up 300Mbps on the DIR-655. Low signal about -79dB and high was about -25dB. I tried the same with 2.4Ghz vs 5Ghz, again it takes a huge disparity before it switches. On my Android phone a similar story, although it does appear to switch more readily. Unfortunately arriving from outside the house it gets a lock on 2.4Ghz first. I've just tried an app called SWIFI that purports to assist the switching, it does appear to avoid the prolonged 'hanging-on' to a link. SSIDs all back to the same now for convenience of setup on the clients, but I'll be keeping an eye on what I'm actually getting. On an unrelated note, both inSSIDer and WiFi Analyzer were showing a steady signal on channel 44 with no MAC. I walked round the neighbourhood and it didn't change. In fact it appeared to stay at exactly the same strength. But now its gone... so perhaps it was never really there. |
Re: Just got the SuperHub 3
Samsung has a feature called smartswitch which should change based on speed.
Virgin has made a poor decision making them both the same |

Fundamentally 802.11 simply lacks this very basic functionality which has been built into 2G phones and pretty much every other wireless technology since 1990. ---------- Post added at 00:04 ---------- Previous post was at 00:01 ---------- Quote:

The only phones that do this well are ones with manufacturer proprietary wireless extensions (e.g. Samsung's "Smart Wireless Switch") Quote:

Re: Just got the SuperHub 3
A 3 bar 5ghz signal is faster than a 5 bar 2ghz signal. Buy to a phone the 5 bar is better

On Windows I've ticked the setting: "Look For Other Wireless Networks While Connected To This Network When selected, Windows continues to look for other wireless networks, even if the current one is usable." Obviously it switches as soon as a current connection drops, using whichever SSID has the strongest signal. I was kind of hoping that the above setting would be a bit smarter. It looks, but it doesn't appear to do any more than that. Using the same SSID for all doesn't seem to help on Windows (with the above setting). I just connected to one box and then moved the laptop to the other end of the house, at -80dB and 11Mbps it is still hanging on to the first one even though situated right next to the other box with the same SSID and enough signal to reheat my cup of tea. Damn things never quite drop. |

This does confuse me. VM are using the same equipment on both sides of the connection as other members of the LG family and it's still gone Pete Tong. |
