And presumably they keep the money and make a bit extra rather than passing it on to the good causes.

Adzi, well done. You have it. I knew it was true.

Because someone wrote in to a newspaper saying it was true, and the newspaper printed it.

Really, that explains just about every topic you have ever posted on here.

If that's your misguided perception then the simple answer is to take your own bag. ;)

The explanation is that the English tend not to like over-regulation and State intervention whereas people on the left of politics can't get enough of it.

Frankly, the waste management industry should be responsible for the appropriate disposal of rubbish and the Government should leave us alone.

They try to tax everything to regulate our behaviour when they should just butt out and let us lead our lives. They want to tax our drinks, tax sugar and basically penalise us for contravening any 'fad of the day' espoused by the same scientists who told us to stop eating butter and now have had to do a U-turn by admitting it's not bad for you and should never have been banned in the first place.

If we got out of the meddlesome EU and stop listening to the scientists who gave us 'global warming' and 'man made climate change' without the proof to go with it, this country might become a better place.

It's time we came up with British solutions to British problems and stopped pandering to these interfering busybodies and all this shallow thinking that we are becoming alarmingly used to. Hardly anyone seems to challenge the bizarre conclusions and proposed solutions to problems these days.

And if they want me to add just one more rubbish container to take up even more room in my conservatory I will SCREEEEAM like a girl!

Define good causes, vat is taking a chunk for instance and keeping camile fjhdfhhfghfdssgjdsfhibdadhhgcf at kids company I'm the manner she has become accustomed.or the like isn't a good cause imo

So in your "British" world view where global warming is fiction, where we should not recycle rubbish and just bury plastic bags in the ground, where should the waste management industry dispose of all the generated land fill "appropriately"? In Britain's green and pleasant land? Absolutely not! Maybe we could ship it over to the EU?

A rather more intelligent solution just might be to stop producing plastic bags in the first place.

As for 'man made' climate change, these arguments are all based on a presumption that the carbon we produce is absorbed into the atmosphere. It is not. Over recent centuries, the amount of carbon absorbed into the air has remained within the band of 0.03 to 0.05% of the atmosphere. The rest is absorbed by the vegetation and the oceans. The scientists themselves admit they cannot be certain about the impact of carbon emissions, so it's all hyperbole. Given that the climate activists constantly try to rubbish any views to the contrary without actually addressing the issues raised and try to destroy the careers of those scientists, meterologists, etc who speak out, I reckon they are pretty afraid of being challenged by all this. And the latest is they want to see climate change denial made unlawful!

I wonder how long it will take before people will start to consider properly the ridiculous headlines we have to endure on a range of waste/climate/health issues that we get attacked with day after day in this 24 hour desperate news world! Many of the pronouncements do not stand up to any scrutiny.

And of course, we should believe those totally unbiased protectors of our environment, the oil and energy companies, who are pluckily standing up to the scientific consensus (97% of Climate Scientists believe that the current Climate Change is being made worse by man-made emissions).

But sod it, it's only our kids and their children who will have to deal with the problem, as we won't be here.....

btw, who is trying to make climate change denial unlawful?

Re: The 5p bag charges...

Why have we got on to climate change? Paying 5p for a plastic bag isn't going to make that sort of change..but it will do something for the horrendous litter problem that we have..I hate them because they kill wildlife, make our streets look disgusting.I hate plastic bags hanging around in the towns trees like some sort of long standing Christmas decoration. In New York they spend so much money and time removing them from the trees in Central park.
Just buy them and re-use them then recycle them at Asda OR even better get one decent re-usable bag and use that until it rots and concentrate on YOUR environment.
