http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/12...ease-help.html

is it right enough that Falkirk is fed from Edinburgh also?

Yes, it is fed from Edinburgh.

Only Uddingston and Glasgow are seperate from Edinburgh

What is the best thing to do?

wait until its sorted and then the speeds return to normal?

or do we keep badgering the call centres only for them to tell us there isn't a problem?

I'd give the link to this thread to the Community Forum Team (post it to your thread), so they can see the amount of customers affected.

they can do some further checks with the INMC guys. I'm in work tomorrow, so will have a look around to see if it is a known issue.

Hi all,

This problem is being investigated under fault reference F001708058. A hardware fault in the Manchester backbone has been identified and the defective equipment has been replaced. This will be tested during the day. Even if this is not a complete solution it will improve the situation.

A second, potential, explanation for the problem is also being investigated. This would have an impact on traffic which follows a particular routing path and would not be apparent during periods of low network load - during the day. It would become manifest as load increases - during the evening. As yet we do not know if this is the explanation, nor whether a fix will be in place before this evening.

Your posts reporting differential results from the speedtest.net Birmingham and London servers suggest that different routing through to Edinburgh is implicated. Ideally, traceroutes to both servers taken during the afternoon and then during the evening would be helpful. However, determining the IP address of a speedtest.net server is not for the faint-hearted - details are here. It's also not neccesarily the case that the route for a ping from a speedtest.net server would be the reverse of the route to a speedtest.net server.

We will be monitoring progress on this fault during the day and will re-post as and when we have anything further to report.

Hi all,

The 2nd, potential, explanation which I mentioned earlier is being investigated under fault reference F001709716.

A possible fix has been identified and the investigating teams are considering implementing this tonight, but no final decision has been taken yet. (We would not want to introduce any deleterious unintended consequences on to the network.)

First line agents are being briefed but will not have any detailed information.

We will continue to monitor the situation and will re-post once we have any more information.

Once again, thanks for your patience and assistance.

Regards,

is that from the VM help and support forum mate?

I'm going to wait until about 8pm to take another speedtest reading before posting this thread on to my post on the VM forum as they disputed there was a problem

I'm getting varying speeds from different severs.

Derry is the best reading I'm getting, but still not getting my 50meg

Seems to be resolved , alot of speedyest sites can't manage 50meg. The big one is London nsmesco. If your hitting 45 it's sorted
