So yes channels can take longer but VM is sensible in no spending silly amounts of money.

People don't seem to think that Virgin have the wrong approach because they hang back, play hardball and get the channels eventually cheaper. Can any one tell me how this is different to me waiting then playing hardball over the phone to get services installed cheaper or for free??? my post from a couple of pages back wasn't meant to mean that there is a difference in what sky pay for channels and what virgin pay, it was a very sarcastic take on a bit of flaming i took from VM staff in another post, but whilst we are at it Virgins strategy on adding new HD channels is wrong, and unless they get the same content for TiVo that $ky are showing on their exclusive channels then they will lose. Remember when all your mates at school had addidas kick trainers and your mum got you puma? :bsmack:

I do not know this as I used to wear Vans, Converse or Airwalk trainers. So I was always the odd one out:erm:

It is no good having a rant at over 'silly prices' with Sky, l pay these silly prices becuase Sky have great channels to watch, and have all the channels you need.

With VM, l will say this again, they want channels on the cheap, this is why you won't get Atlantic, Sky have stated that they will provide this channel to VM at a 'reasonable' price.

Why should Sky go into battle with VM if they wont pay the money.

Sky give value for money.

Yes they must as I left them after 13 years to become a Virgin TV customer, It is all down to personal needs:confused: I left as I did not about 400 Shopping, Talk show E.T.C channels.

Each to their own:erm:

Also in regards to silly prices just look at what SKY payed for glee.

Quote:

According to reports, Sky have offered to pay £12m for the rights to Glee's third series - about £500,000 per episode.

But they are essentially a second tier TV company. They will never have the resources to compete, nor' do they need to. They offer different services to Sky just as Sky offer what could deemed as better TV.

Plus, what channels are we seriously missing out on that could be obtained by VM? (Excluding Kids, Adult and channels in the Foreign Section of the Sky EPG)

Key

Red - Unlikely the broadcaster could afford it
Turquoise - Very limited audience so not financially viable
Blue Sky Stranglehold on the Channels
Orange - Just a matter of time, not really that important to anyone, mostly timeshifts or HD versions of poor channels
Green - Channels that the broadcaster can afford to put on VM and that VM should and can get

Orange - Just a matter of time, not really that important to anyone, mostly timeshifts or HD versions of poor channels

Nat Geo Wild HD
Eden HD
History HD
ITV 2 HD
ITV 3 HD
ITV 4 HD
CBS Drama
CBS Action

In your opinion I take it. Why have we excluded kids , I'm sure many on here have children.

A pretty comprehensive list though well put together :-)

Crime and investigation HD and several others.

Hear! Hear!

I really want ITV4HD - admittedly it's only for one programme - British Touring Cars every few weeks, but I still really want it.

SD available, SD available, SD available, SD available, SD available, Programs shown on Quest and others, Programs shown on Quest and others.

So not that important.

Its not my opinion (I don't watch cooking, music or news channels but they're green) the reason Crime&Inves is orange is its half owned by Sky so they'll have some say in HD being on Virgin but not a stranglehold on the channel.

I excluded kids because I was tired but I knew someone would complain so;

Disney Cinemagic HD (Has some relation with Sky Movies)
Disney Junior+ (Formally Playhouse Disney+)
Disney XD HD
Kix!
Nickelodeon HD [1/2 Sky]
Nicktoons Replay (+1) [1/2 Sky]
POP (Recently removed)
Pop Girl
Pop Girl +1
Tiny Pop+1

My point personified, poor HD channel and a waste of budget that could be used on more popular channels who show much more exclusive, live, self produced or first run programming instead of repeats after repeats mixed with with one or two shows a week that are popular (not to me to viewing figures); see ITV 2 HD and ITV 4 HD.

Agree with you those channels are mainly available in SD , but I'd imagine that most people with 40" HDTVs or bigger would sooner see them in HD although I do see your point.

Most members want channels that are not on VM but on Sky, and yes it is down to choice of the customer.

But quite a few members have stated they want Atlantic, but this does come at a price and l DON'T think VM will pay that price, so they will lose out. My annoyance about VM is that they will take channels off, but won't replaced them.

We all want a rolls royce, but have to make do with a Ford Fiesta, sadly this is what VM is.

The companies operate a different mode to each other sky is basically a tv company that also thanks to bt is able to offer broadband and phone lines.Virgin media on the other hand is a broadband company who also offer tv and phone lines, virgin will never have the cash to compete with sky on linear tv channels fact, but with TiVo is obviously going the streaming content route as well as linear channels, after all why compete with a cash rich mountain company who pay nutty prices for content.

Sky are a Ford fiesta company with regards to broadband.

With Virgin media very much the rolls royce.

The positons with tv are reversed.Who says sky have offered atlantic at a "reasonable price" er sky of course they would do would they not, virgin media tv customers will probably get it when it moves onto a sky pack later on in the year, and sky ask a reasonable price for it.

Pretty much agree with most of that.
