So who are Virgin talking to in their e-mail, Dean or me?

Talk about treating me, and by the sound of things many others as just another face in the crowd. Is this an early April fools joke or do Virgin think everyone is called Dean:confused:

It's another fine mess they've gotten themselves into:D

Are you a Sky employee!!

If you don't order now, but decide to at a later date when they are taking orders from new customers, will you still be able to get it for the £149 (assuming the price hasn't been revised), or will you have to pay the £199?

Just paid out £149 to swap out my 2 old standard V boxes for V+, which me and the rest of the family are finding more than adequate for the amount of TV we watch.

Just got another e-mail from Virgin that starts as follows:

"Hello Charles,

We're sorry about the last email we sent you! We know you're not called Dean. Here's your real update on getting our TiVo® service."

I thought sweeeeeeeeet, it was all just a prank including their totally BS pricing. When I scrolled down however the prices are the same:(

I'm joining SKY, who's with me?

Too much to fork out at the moment for what appears to be a good box. But what`s the point of having a Ferrari when you don`t have petrol to run it. Until there is more content, either streaming or on demand, i`m going to stick with my V+ box for now.

There's the full iplayer, with the same content as the online - no more waiting for VM to update.. it needs better integration IMO though. It looks like they're planning to integrate it properly though as they've (just today I think) removed the VM links from the catchup EPG for BBC*.

Would be nice if the likes of lovefilm or blockbuster were on there.. time will tell. The VM CEO talks about Tivo being a platform/media hub so there's certainly the will to push it as far as it'll go - OTOH having heard similar from other companies I'll wait to see what happens first..

* That's always assuming they wouldn't do something moronic like removing the catchup links and not replacing them with anything...

I would have been with you, if Sky weren't £10/month more expensive for comparable service to my VM package, and I didn't have to get a BT line put in, and if Anytime+ was Anygood, and if they had some kind of roadmap for a TiVo like service (will watch that space after the news article though! Maybe next year...)

2 people didn't know about TiVo email, but voted anyway... okay...

I am considering whether £200 is worth it for the extra HD space. Will have another look at what Sky offer but wont change phone or broadband. 30Mb compared with most likely <5Mb and would need BT phone line reinstated is no brainer.

As many others have said £150 'activation' (pressing a few buttons) and £40 install (engineer visit & plug it in) is just too much.

as it is I'm content to wait till TIVO is the natural replacement for V+. I am not prepared to pay for it as I don't see it bringing anything extra that I really need.

That is a personal choice of course.

That seems a pretty sensible stance, one which I suspect the vast majority of average customers will follow.

But it's worth remembering that Sky had Tivo years ago and canned it in favour of a more mainstream piece of kit which has proven to be a pretty smart move. More people have Sky+ in the UK than have Tivo in the whole world.

The Sky kit does everything most people want it to, as does V+. Tivo is a techies dream but is it Average Joes?

Re: Will you take TIVO one the email that you got today?

i have been looking forward to tivo since pre reg. on day 1, but the £40 activation fee rules it out for me. i complained about the 'dean' e-mail & got a reply from cindy rose saying it was just 'human error'
maybe so, but it's all been a bit of a shambles.

Re: Will you take TIVO one the email that you got today?

No intention of moving to TIVO at the price VM are offering it for, don't see a need to move as we are happy with the V+ Box we have and I can think of better things to spend £149+£40+£3 on.

I guess at some stage in the future TIVO will replace the V+ Box or the price will drop significantly, so will wait and see what happens.
