I repeat my question. What your attitude be if it happened to you?

If it happened to me I would send the company proof that I never lived at the address for the period they said I did.

The company would then update their records and we would move on

No they don't. They have accounts that say that someone else, who lived at that address, owes them money. Not the OP.

Actually they still think it's the OP:

So in the end i just let them think i had 400 quid owing, which i didnt.

The twit on the phone, thinks it's the OP. How can it be the OP, if it is not him who owes the money? If it is not his name on the account, how can it be him?

Because the agents on the phone will be going off the notes left by C.U.S which will say something like 'matched by D.O.B' or 'Time at address' or something similar. It may even come from a linked person on a Credit file

Also it isn't unheard of for people to give different names to get around outstanding debt

Re: You owe us four hundred quid......pay-up now..?

But the OP has only been living there for a very short time. He has a different name to the debtor and is not linked to them in any way, even if he did have links, it would not be him who owes the money. So, getting back to the statement that they have accounts that say it is the OP who owes them money, I don't think that they would. They are effectively calling the OP a liar.

We are going around in circles here. No-one here knows why Virgin have linked the debt, everyone is just working off the OP post

The only way for the OP to resolve this is do as I said at post #20 and get C.U.S. to explain why they have linked the debt.
