Re: More redundancies
It's not "more redundancies" It's part of the program as announced a couple of weeks ago, and this thread should be added to the existing one.

Re: Virgin Media is to cut about 2,200 jobs by 2012.
I was made "redundant" in november , I was told that the official reason was that I do not fit in with the virgin media family , this was the day after I asked about redundancys in a meeting , I worked in dispatch, i was only there 5 weeks , there was no problems at all with my work , and I was hard working and helpful , very nasty company to work for ,they did not even give me a warning they just sacked me there and then.

Jason, people are not made redundant, posts are.
Were you in a probation period? |

I assume you were a temp as Despatch use agency staff in which case you were neither made redundant nor fired. Working hard is subjective isnt it, even someone who works hard can have a negative impact on a team/department, seen it many times. |

If you were sacked after 5 weeks, then I would look at yourself and not Virgin Media.

Sacked? Or made redundant? There is a big difference. Sadly, until you've been employed for one year, you have no employment rights and are not entitled to any severance pay. Consequently, if the company decides to make redundancies, new starters are the cheapest jobs to lose. If you were sacked, that implies misconduct. Before sacking someone (who's been employed for more than a year) the company has to have gone through a formal disciplinary procedure, otherwise it's unfair dismissal (and you'd be entitled to compensation). Anyway, as you'd been there for 5 weeks, the distinction is moot! Sorry to hear that. Good luck finding something else. |
Re: Virgin Media is to cut about 2,200 jobs by 2012.
As l was made redundant, l can explain something too you, as l sought advice, concerning payments etc.
REDUNDANCY; If a company, closes down, BUT has other depots, they have to offer you work at the other depots, if there are no vacancy, then the redundancy happens. DISMISSAL (SACK), If you have been at a company for less than TWO years, then they have to follow strict procedure, to carry that out, otherwise you can sue. If you have been on probation, and ie the norm is three months, they can get rid of you at any time, if you make one mistake. If you work for VM, for feel sorry for you, but l cannot understand, why they are getting rid of you, they should be taking on my staff, not get rid of you, or is it, they are ' stream lining ' your department. |
Re: Virgin Media is to cut about 2,200 jobs by 2012.
The new organisational structure at his level has not yet been issued.
So the required headcount has not been decided even now, so I doubt he was made redundant. He was either let go before the end of his probabtion period or he was a contractor. |
