Re: ftp web site space
oops sorry i thought i just deleted the sgg files ,,as am trying to upload again useing the filezilla ,,do you think it will work ?:)
seems to been uploading for a while now ,, |
Re: ftp web site space
depends where your trying to upload them to.......
You deleted the public_html directory, i have put it back for you, so not sure where your uploading too right now..... it may have timed out if you deleted the directory after you started your upload. __________________ and there are no files going into your public_html directory |
Re: ftp web site space
Did you point Filezilla at the public_html directory?
If not it will probably just be uploading to the root directory. It might be as well to let KP sort the files out and put them where they should be, he seems to be able to see them ok from his end. That would save any more accidents and there's a good chance that things would work ok. |
Re: ftp web site space
what do i put in the address bar in filezilla then
is it oldgit1.co.uk/puplic-html |
Re: ftp web site space
You need to connect to the oldgit.co.uk address, using the username and password you were supplied with.
Filezilla should then give you a view of the directory contents of the site. You need to navigate to the public_html folder and then upload your files to there. Your index file needs to be at the root of that folder. It's not the easiest thing in the world to explain really, once you've done it once and seen how it works (and how it looks when it's done) you will see how easy it really is. |
Re: ftp web site space
there is a file there now in the public_html called incoming ..
does that mean it uploading ?:) very slow it seems .. |
Re: ftp web site space
It is quite a slow process, you are uploading a whole lot of information.
You will probably find that it was quicker with your old software because it was only uploading the updates. This time you are putting everything up there. Give it time and when it's finished we'll see how we got on ;) |
Re: ftp web site space
you chaps are very patient,,
its very much appreciated :) |

Once you've worked out what went wrong this time, and you know why, you should be in a better position to do it straight away next time. I had similar problems working out what went where when I first got my hosting, I think I've got a reasonable grasp of it now though. It just takes a little time to get sorted, once it's working you'll see... |
Re: ftp web site space
i know what you mean ,,
the SGW prgram is so easy it leads you on to think its easy to do web sites . ntl gave me the upload address and ,,bingo first time , web site up and running . so i thought i will get my own web space ,,oh yeh thats when it all went sideways.. still this is the way to learn ,,then it sticks in your mind:) |
Re: ftp web site space
Has filezilla finished uploading yet?
|
Re: ftp web site space
.
been downloading for a long time now ,,is this normal with filezilla. seems to upload very small amounts at a time .. |
Re: ftp web site space
Wouldn't have thought it would take this long.....depends on how big the files are though.
Some of those images might be quite large but they shouldn't be that big..... Down at the bottom of the filezilla screen it should tell you what files it is working on and what percentage is complete. Does that tell you anything at all? |
Re: ftp web site space
some of the files had ?marks in them ..now only the www file has a ?mark
is it still uploading to that file , do ya think .. will it say at the end that it has finished |
Re: ftp web site space
Sounds like something's note quite right there, it's difficult to tell without seeing exactly what you're seeing though.
You should see progress bars underneath the files that are being uplaoded. |
